It can be completed over time spans from 2 to 5 years. The fees for UK students back in 2011 were £400 per module. The MSc has a total of 8 modules. ( Can't remember if the MSc research project is inclusive of the 8 modules ).The course covers Energy Policy, Wind Power, Solar Power, Hydro Power, & Biomass. The course trains you to work as a Renewable energy engineer, more so than a Renewable energy policy or finance consultant.A university in Sweden also runs a distance learning MSc in Renewable Energy which is free of charge for EU nationals. One way to find them is to walk the halls at conferences such as SemTech. Many of the best emerging ML and NLP companies will not be listed on VentureBeat, TechCrunch, Mashable, etc. because they are either: 1) privately funded and more focused on R&D than the typical VC funded company, and/or 2) they are generating revenue from national security customers who are not eager for them to share their technology with the commercial world. Generally, the more dependent the company is on VC funding, the more they are pushed into building a customer base as quickly as possible. The reality is that most cutting-edge ML technologies just don't lend themselves to mass market commercialization. There are many forms of ML and the more general it becomes the longer it takes to find a market niche. I am aware of dozens of companies that fit the description of "emerging startup that are solving ML and NLP problems" -- and you will need to sort through many frogs to find a few princes.

Has anyone ever taken independent/distance learning courses from LSU?
I'm taking one right now and took another one last year. They're very flexible courses to take, and I highly recommend them for you if you're stuck in a jam schedule-wise on classes at your school (like I was), and you need a certain class for your semester. The classes are 9 months long and they run at $200 each, with the books being extra. The really nice thing is that the classes seem to use books from up to 5 years ago, meaning you can find them on Amazon.com for around $15 if you're lucky. You'll have to schedule to have an exam mailed to a proctor of your designation by the time your first class exam comes up, as the LSU independent classes do not allow you to take the class exams online. One other note, there's two ways to take the classes; either through the internet or through the mail. Personally I'm taking them through the mail since it's much more convenient for me. Also just because they're distant learning classes doesn't make the class any easier. Right now I'm taking a management course and it is a HARD course, much harder than I figured it would be. At least based on the homework assignments and my recent exam, the professors make you learn the material and don't just give the grades away. Talk with your counselor to see if the LSU courses can transfer to your school. Chances are they will as the LSU classes are accepted in many places, and hopefully you can find the class you're looking for. Good luck with your schooling. www.is.lsu.edu
