Smokeless tobacco and the Army .?

Smokeless tobacco is not differentiated from smoking tobacco by the Army regulations. Army regulations limit the use of both to specified outdoor locations. Army Regulation (AR) 600-63, Army Health Promotion, paragraph 7-3a, 20 SEP 2009, states: "Tobacco use is prohibited in all DA-occupied workplaces except for designated smoking areas." AR 600-63, paragraph 7-3 A. (2) states, the designated smoking area will be at least 50 feet from common points of entrance and exit to a building. I'm unsure of whether it's because they're considered workplaces or there is a separate regulation concerning it, but using tobacco of any kind inside an Army vehicle is also prohibited.

Effectively you are allowed to use smokeless tobacco only at specified places in reference to Army workplaces. When not in the vicinity of an Army workplaces there are no prohibitions. Some posts might have prohibitions against using dip while walking, but that would be about it. When not in uniform or near an Army workplace there would be no restrictions at all.

All of that being said, what's allowed and what's done are two different things. I've been twice deployed on gun truck missions and both times routinely dipped in the vehicles with permission from the truck commander. I also routinely dipped indoors at all times and was never corrected even while stateside. Your mileage may and very likely will vary, as the Army regs tend to matter a lot less than the opinion of those in charge of you.

What is the best smokeless tobacco, or 'dip', for a beginner?

Alot of this depends on your personal preference in taste and if you have tried it much previously.

Just to note real quick first - Your GF is NOT the first girl to say she thinks its hot. I've had several women tell me that as well in the past, and no these aren't rednecks.

Anyway... if you have never done it before, you might start out in the VERY BEGINNING using the pouches. The flavor isn't quite as strong and there is much less chance of you getting sick at first. They come in several flavors now days so just pick one that sounds good to you. Once you have that down move on to the long cuts. DO NOT try anything with the words "snuff" or "fine cut" on it yet. This cut is much stronger, very hard to keep under control for beginners, and is sure to cause an unpleasant experience for beginners. Even out of long cuts there are a few brands and flavors you should stay away from at first because some are quite a bit more potent than others. Start out with Skoal Long Cut. I would recommend the fruity flavors at first like Berry Blend, Citrus Blend, Cherry, Peach, ect. Choose a flavor you like anyway and start with that. Once you get that far and have it under control you WILL be ready for something stronger. You will get used to the less strong brands pretty quickly and you will want something stronger and more satisfying. Then try some non fruity Skoal flavors like Mint and straight. After that move on from Skoal to Grizzley Long Cut Wintergreen(if money is an issue) or even better Kodiak Wintergreen. You will probably, by this point not only be addicted, but will have found something you like, you want to stick with, and is satisfying enough for you. If not then move on to Copenhagen. Try Copenhagen Long Cut first(beware, there is little difference in the cut between Cope LC and Cope snuff). If you want even more move on to Copenhagen Snuff or other fine cut/snuff brands/flavors. I hope this gives you an idea of where to start out and what to ask for. Good luck and enjoy!

What is the best way to stop smoking and tobacco in general?

I totally agree with Nurse 22. Chantix. It's amazing. When you start smoking, the cells in your body are altered. Chantix changes your cells back to the way they were before you ever began tobacco use. I was really sceptical until I tried it. I was a HEAVY smoker - all of a sudden, I would realize I had gone 10 hours without smoking and not even missed it. Talk to your doctor about this - it's by prescription only. But the success rate with it is higher than anything else out there by far!! Good luck to you and you're making a GREAT choice!!

Which is worse for you smoking or chewing tobacco?

Chewing tobacco presents mainly a single risk: oral cancer, with possible cancer increases down the alimentary/digestive system although I don’t think those are nearly as well documented.Oral cancer however is not serious if it is caught early, so if you are a regular tobacco chewer and see the dentist regularly and make sure your doctor knows you chew tobacco it’s pretty unlikely you’ll get serious consequences (although, just to be clear: I am not a doctor. Nor have I even read extensively on the risks of chewing tobacco… maybe a hundred or so studies/abstracts in med journals and a few dozen popular articles over the years. One thing to consider is that there are different types of chewing tobacco. Swedish snus (tiny little packets of power that you put in your gum area and which don’t require spitting or anything) seems to be almost 100% risk free in terms of your general life risks, though I would expect there might be some oral cancer risk at a low level. Chewing khat (?) or various types of tobacco mixed with betal nuts, coca leaves, and/or other stuff can cause other sorts of health problems that are more serious than chewing tobacco alone.Smoking over the long term is more serious as it can cause lung cancer in up to 15 to 25% of lifelong heavier smokers, sometimes even somewhat higher in special circumstances (e.g. if the person was also heavily exposed to asbestos or radon etc). Even fairly light/moderate smokers of five or ten a day thoughout their life are likely to increase their lung cancer riskd from about 0.4% up to 2% or (possibly) even 5% or more (note that 5% is a 12x increase over the base rate, so it’s pretty significant. I’d place that figure more squarely in the area of the 10 cigarettes per day for 50 years type smoker than in one of the lighter smoking categories though.Smoking also increases the risks of various types of other cancers and heart disease etc, though usually not nearly as strongly or conclusively as lung cancer.Soooo… overall, chewing (particularly snus) is better for you.MJM: Who is, remember, NOT a doctor!

How do I quit khaini or cigarettes or any tobacco? Or what is the best substitute for smoking or chewing tobacco?

I used to be a smoker back in college, a chain smoker you could say.I would lose my mind every time I needed a smoke and didn’t have it right in my pocket. There was this one day when I went mad, cause the nearest panwadi/kiosk to my college was shut, and there was nothing around in the vicinity of about 10 kms.Such misery! That night I didn’t get a smoke, I was crying and running around like a mad dog at 3 am, knocking doors trying to get a smoke.I returned to my room, howling like a psycho. Once I hit my bed, I pondered over what this had done to me, I had gone mad, I had completely lost it.I realised what I had done. A cigarette, just a cigarette had landed me in a situation where the entire college thought I was a PSYCHO, because I couldn’t get a smoke at night. At that point, I knew I had to quit!I was desperate, I had to get rid of it. I tried everything available in the market, gums, patches and pills, but nothing worked. Nicotine gums tasted shitty and they hurt my throat, who would want to chew nicotine? It made me feel sick!Vaping did the trick for me. Vaping is a technology which has already helped 45 million people quit smoking. So from my personal experience, I would advice everyone to switch to Vaping. It does not have tobacco, tar, or any harmful chemicals, neither does it cause cancer. As per Public Health England, vaping is 95% healthier than smoking. That’s my story. That’s how I switched!Choose Your Health. Say No to Tobacco!
