What do people not like about living in Melbourne, Victoria?
It is so flat! Although admittedly some areas of Brisbane (where I grew up) are also flat, it is much more hilly than Melbourne. I didn’t realise just how flat it is until I flew in here when I came back from Canada. I had never come here by plane before, and the flatness of the landscape as far as the eye can see was downright depressing.It isn’t on the ocean. Port Phillip Bay is ok but it isn’t the ocean and it just isn’t the same. There is nothing like going for a long walk on an ocean beach, especially at sunrise or sunset. I can’t do that here unless I want to drive for well over an hour to get there. I never lived more than a few minutes drive from an ocean beach when I was growing up and I really miss that.And speaking of bays and oceans, the water is bloody cold except on really hot days. I hadn’t realised how warm the water was in Queensland until I went back there after a couple of years of living in Melbourne. Walking into the water on the Sunshine Coast was like stepping into a warm bath.And then there is the weather. It isn’t that the winter is too cold exactly. After all I did spend 20 years in Canada and I didn’t mind that. But it is so unpredictable and you never know what it is going to be like even in a couple of hours, let alone the end of the day.And the winters, while not unbearably cold are looooooong. It is almost the end of September but when I went outside at about 6.30 am this morning it was only 3 degrees, and now at 8 am it has finally struggled up to almost 7. Enough already!Don’t get me started on the traffic. I am retired so mostly I can avoid going anywhere during peak hours, but sometimes I am forced to. Last time was about a month ago, and coming back on the freeway until I got very close to home, my speed varied from about 40kph to dead stop.Apart from all that though, it isn’t a bad old burgh.

Is the Sun always in the South during the day?
Obviously the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, but I've noticed that the Sun always appears to "cross the sky", so to speak, via the South. Whenever I look out at the Sun during the day (ie. between sunrise and sunset) I always find it in the South. I never see it in the North. I live in London, England by the way. What I'm wondering is, does the Sun always appear to make its journey across the sky in this direction, or are there some parts of the world where people would see the Sun in the North during the day? Or does it vary from season to season? Would I notice, for example, in another season (autumn for example) that the Sun makes it journey via the North even as seen from London?
