Best Way To Fill Up A Moleskine Notebook

Which pen writes best on a Moleskine notebook?

I write in Moleskine sketchbooks (not notebooks) with a Staples Classic gel pen (medium point) The Classic is a big metal pen with a giant rubber grip. It lays down a fat sloppy line of ink that encourages loose writing. If that's not what you're going for, it may not be the pen for you. Plus,it bleeds through on Moleskine notebook paper.

Does anyone still uses moleskin notebooks? If so, how and why? What do you do with them as you fill them up?

I bought a Moleskin notebook years ago before there were hipsters. I bought it because I read that Ernest Hemingway wrote in them and he smuggled rum from Cuba and owned a Thompson. I figured writing in the same kind of notebook as Ernest Hemingway would have to make me some kind of cool. Boy was I wrong. I wrote some phone numbers in the back and then lost interest in the whole thing.Hemingway’s goona have to wait, I’ve got important shit to do.

Are Moleskines useful to you as a writer?

I've enjoyed using Moleskines in the past, but now I've turned to using other journals, especially since I've found I prefer softcover journals. (Moleskine certainly produces a variety of different products, but if you don't demand hardcover journals, you have a wider range of brands to pick from.)Additionally, although Moleskines aren't a bad product per se, even compared to other premium stationery products, their paper quality and fountain-pen friendliness leaves something to be desired compared to the likes of Rhodia or Leuchtturm.Regardless, despite what the Moleskine haters say, I think the most important thing about picking a journal is whether you enjoy using it or not and whether it fits your lifestyle and writing habits adequately. Realistically, for most non-power users, pretty much anything works equally well. If you enjoy using a particular brand journal for the intangibles, by all means don't let anyone stop you from buying that brand.

What is a moleskine? What is it used for?

Moleskine refers to a type of small, black French pocketable notebooks with ivory paper, an elastic bind and a ribbon bookmark. They were used by many artists and writers in the 19th and 20th century to make drawings, write, and take notes. The brand name as we know it today was only established in Italy in 1997. The company has been making the type of notebooks which gave it its name, but also larger sizes, diaries, and small notebooks with integrated travel maps, among other things.

Where could I find blank-paged (no lines or grids) notebooks/sketchbooks, similar to moleskines but cheaper?

Hi There!

I am unsure what a moleskin is, however I would really suggest Strathmore. I have three of these in all different sizes, and my two larger ones (8 by 11 and one that is larger than that for bigger projects) have 100 pages. They are not perforated, but you can easily rip it out of the sketchbook and snip off the edge that connected it to the spiral. I do this all the time!

The paper is nice and thick, and I believe that they offer different textures, though I opt for "light texture" because I tend to have pretty thick and hard lines! You can find these at Michaels. I hope that helps and good luck on your search.

All The Best,
Lexie
