What are some good Anime for an English-speaker with no background in the genre to start with?

Dragon Ball (preferably starting with the original Dragon Ball and moving onto DBZ then to GT), Naruto, Bleach, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Full Metal Alchemist, Case Closed (though more childish), Death Note, One Piece, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Yu-Gi-Oh (though not always thought of as anime) and others are great. (Popular anime/manga characters) I'm not sure why being an English speaker would change anything, much of anime is English-dubbed, at least until you get into the newer episodes that have yet to be dubbed (because they're originally released in Japan).(Japan)As for having no background in the genre, that's fine too. Anime may have reoccurring themes, but there really is something for virtually anyone, assuming you don't mind some Japanese culture and/or the cartoon nature of anime itself (but I'm rather confident you already realize they're essentially very well drawn comic books [mangas really] that are animated). (Ramen is a popular food in anime/manga). Just try a few out, it'll only be an hour or two of your time wasted if you don't like it, but if you do then you'll probably find a new favorite television show (people get pretty into these shows and/or their manga equals, it's just the nature of anime/manga). And, assuming you enjoy the anime, read the manga too, it's often just as good or better, not to mention more current. Oh, also, I should warn you that addiction is common amongst anime and manga watchers/readers, so beware.
