How tough is the CMC Vellore UG entrance exam? What should be the average marks out of 300 to get selected through general merit?
240 questions = 60 marks. Depending on your speciality of choice and MD/Diploma, you would need anywhere between 40 and 50 to get through to the interview stage. So that works out to 160-210 questions correct since there are no negatives.But to ensure selection after the interviews, you would need closer to 50 I guess. The real difficulty about CMC exams isn't the cut-off, its the type of questions. While you have fact-based questions, some are more analytical and scenario based with 2-3 step reasoning required. So students who have spent majority of their hours studying and with very little work experience as a House Surgeon would not be able to comprehend practical situations as well as those with good work experience. So pay attention to small things you pick up while working.Also, the fact that you need to choose 2 subjects BEFORE writing the exam makes competition more for the traditionally popular subjects. So if you like para-clinical and pre-clinical fields, do attempt the CMC exam as I've heard its easier to get in and you get to work in great departments at a National level. Every student deserves a PG seat but unfortunately very few student get them. If you are preparing for PG medical entrance exam then you should focus on your syllabus and learn it by heart. You can create some mnemonics which are memorable and can be recalled at will. Please don’t create mnemonics which are not handy when needed. Check out the medical mnemonics section for some interesting mnemonics. I believe revision is the key to success. Revise the topics you have read, read only the topics you will be able to revise. Do MCQ’s regularly ,it is the only way to improve your exam taking skill. You can join some online portals which will improve your chances of securing the PG seat. What books should I read to crack PG entrance exams in India with special reference to JIPMER?
Two types of preparation do exist for cracking the exam prospective and retrospective. Coming to prospective type read your text and solve the questions it's recommended for ug ppl. Read the questions and explanation and relevant question banks subject wise and try to master those topics and keep solving as many papers as possible. Retrospective method saves time and also keep you updated regarding what's is going to be asked.
How do people prepare for the CMC, Vellore UG entrance exam?
There is no special preparation specific to CMC Vellore that is required, at least I didn't take any.If you are preparing properly for the AIPMT, that should suffice. Follow one reference book and do that properly, and before exams start timing yourself and writing as many mock tests as possible. Questions asked are pretty basic and the emphasis is more on speed than on complexity. People who are from areas close to Vellore take a 2 week or something coaching at a college called Voorhees in Vellore forpreparing for CMC but I cannot tell you how useful it is since I have no clue. All in all, just read however you are erading for the other medical entrances. And there is also an aptitude test, which , well, depends on your aptitude :P
Do you have to give the NEET UG exam for CMC Vellore or are they still going to conduct their exam?
According to Supreme Court Orders, All Medical Colleges irrespective of Private Or Government will prepare their merit list according to NEET scores. Except AIIMS and JIPMER.
