Stomach pains, diarrhea for over a month?

I'm a 20 year old female. I've always ate really healthy and exercise regularly. About a month ago I caught the flu (even though I got the flu vaccine 2-3 weeks before). I had body aches, a sore throat and was very congested...but had no fever. Around that time I started having loose stools. Not diarrhea, but my stools just were really soft. My flu went away around 3 days later. But I am still having issues. I now have diarrhea. Its not too bad, I've definitely had it much worse when I've been sick before...but I've been having this for a month. I also started getting bad stomach pain when I went to the bathroom. The last 2 weeks I've been waking up 2-3 times a night with horrible stomach pain and going to the bathroom. It tends to occur at night and in the morning. I was taking Tums in the morning and it seemed to help with the stomach pains. But like I said, this keeps happening at night. I won't make any bowel movements all day but will make multiple ones at night and in the morning. And sometimes its not even a lot. I don't know whats wrong with me, I was trying to pinpoint it by keeping track of my diet and see what I'm eating but I can't really find a pattern, I am a bit lactose intolerant though and have been for the last year or two. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I need to go to the doctors but I live at school too far away from home, and won't be able to make a dr. appt. till Thanksgiving.

What to give my 4 year old to stop diarrhea?

The B.R.A.T diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) is classic... my mom used it, her mom, etc...

I've found that the bananas work well, but so will cheese so I would try having him eat a grilled cheese with a banana or something similar. Good luck!!

Why does drinking Sprite help when you're sick?

From my experience, I don’t think soda works best for me. For one, it has way too many sugars in it, and it makes me feel bloated. I also learned that ginger ale actually does NOT have any real ginger, so it honestly makes no sense to drink soda, unless for the carbonation or to ease nausea.Eating is obviously ruled out because of the lack of appetite while ill, so I believe the best solutions are natural remedies for sickness, for instance, ginger or spearmint caffeine free tea. If you’re under the weather, it’s best to get fever grass (wheat grass) leaves, two cloves of garlic, and ginger or spearmint caffeine free tag bag. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper, since pepper helps with congestion and knocking out fevers.Bring the water to boil, and place all the above in the water. Let it boil for 7 to 12 minutes, and then pour the tea in a cup. Wait another 5 to 10 minutes (covered) for the remedy to be absorbed, and drink the tea every 2 to 3 hours. Do not add any sugar: so no honey, brown sugar, or sweeteners. Your home will smell of strong garlic, and that could possibly help with any congestion you may have. And of course, drink room temperature water, crackers for energy and saltiness, and lots of rest. Stay away from any mucus (phlegm) building foods like dairy and sugar. Absolutely no cold foods or drinks as it can irritate the throat! If your stomach feels uncomfortable, like gas is trapped, the tea can help. In addition, massaging your stomach, especially the lower abdomen, can help bowel movements, which can help with passing of gas as well. Putting your knees to your chest and pressing down can also apply pressure on the stomach, forcing the gas to come out. And burping helps too.But of course, this may not work for you , but I hope this helps. This is from my experience, and from back home (Jamaica) knowledge of trying to rid of illness. But modern medicine is fine, or even just sticking out the cold until you feel better is okay as well. As long as you’re getting enough rest to fight the illness and drinking room temperature water, you should be fine, unless symptoms persist longer than it should without any sort of recovery. That’s when it’s time to visit your primary care.

Best ways to help kids with a stomach bug?

So my 16 month old has had terrible terrible diarrhea for 2 days now. My 3 1/2 year old woke up today super tired and has slept and just laid around all day and I can barely get him to eat anything. Any one have tips how to avoid getting sick in Guatemala?

I too live in Guatemala, Quetzaltenango to be exact and have been here for 7 years working with tourists and Spanish Schools for the past 10 year. All of the above ideas will surely help you but one thing I know for sure is...if you spend an extended time in Guatemala you will get stomach sick not matter how hard you try to eat and drink ONLY the right things.

Getting sick is NOT the end of the world or the end of your fun in Guatemala. Most stomach ailments can be cured in as little as 48 hours if you are smart and take action right away.

#1 - Do NOT wait have a stool sample tested at the first sign of diarrhea. The cost in Xela is Q35 = $5.00 and takes less than 1 hour to get the results. The diarrhea will not go away by waiting.

#2 - Take the sample results to a doctor - cost $10.00 for a consultation. The doc will tell you if you have parasites, stomach infection...ect. The doc will also tell you what you can take and for how long.

#2.5 - By pass the doc and take the results directly to the pharmacy as perscriptions are not needed and most pharmacists can read the results and tell you want you have and what to take.

#3 - Buy the antibiotic treatment necessary to rid yourself of the bug you have. Most of the time the treatment is 7 days of pills, some ailments are cured by 2 or 4 pills taken every 12 hours.

I have had just about every bug possible, I eat street food, cerviche is one of my favorites. I can not imagine not eating what I want so if you are like me just know how to get cured and enjoy your trip!!

What is the difference between dramamine and benadryl?

Oddly enough, they are actually basically the same drug.Benedril is diphenhydramine (bonded in a hydrochloride salt formulation).Dramamine is also diphenhydramine, but bonded to 8-chlorotheophylline, which whoever put the two together decided to give a different name altogether: dimenhydrinate. To say the least, doing this was an unorthodox practice. The only functional difference between the medications is that upon dissociation, the hydrochloride salt (which is converted to hydrochloric acid in the stomach) possesses no bioactivity, while 8-chlorotheophylline goes on to be absorbed and pass the blood-brain barrier, where it acts as a mild stimulant not fundamentally different from caffeine. The purpose of this is to reduce drowsiness produced by diphenhydramine, but within the therapeutic dosage range the sedative effect of the diphenhydramine will always significantly outweigh the stimulant properties of the 8-chlorotheophylline.So to sum things up, you wouldn't really be functionally incorrect to think of Dramamine simply as Benedril with just a pinch of caffeine.
