Buying Disney Merchandise

What website to buy Lilo & Stitch Merchandise?

In Japan, I know that they are crazy for Disney's Stitch over there. They have such adorable merchandising that I really want to buy them online due to the fact that I can't really just hop on a plane and head over there to buy them in person. Are there any websites besides Ebay that have Stitch merchandise from Japan that could be shipped to the states? It'd be awesome if there was merchandise of Angel as well.

Is it true that more Disney merchandise is sold in Japan than anime merchandise?

This is a bit of a trick question, because Disney is a franchise. And Disney has some theme parks they run in Japan as well, and they do sell some pictures and models and Disney movies do show in Japan. So the Disney Franchise in Japan which also includes theme parks etc likely does make more money than any particular single Anime movie or series. But if you are to talk about anime franchises and also combine other anime etc, it isn’t even close. You can see the profits of all of Asia are only a tiny fraction of the USA, they aren’t too large. And that includes huge China and Korea and Taiwan and other Asian countries (that isn’t just Japan there). So Japan is only a fraction of that 6 billion dollars.Let’s be generous and pretend that Japan is responsible for half of the entire Asian profits (this is unlikely since China is so huge), but let’s just pretend Japan is responsible for 3 billion dollars of those Disney profits in Asia. Now let’s look at Anime’s profits…..lolIn 2017 the anime sector in Japan made 19.1 billion dollars. And overseas it makes 8.81 billion dollars also in 2017.So a total of 27.91 billion. So nope, Disney in Japan doesn’t come close to anime. And a lot of the Disney profits in Japan are theme park based anyway, not exactly people buying Disney movies in droves or anything. Disney’s theme parks in fact are some of the company’s biggest revenue streams. They have built them all over the world, it’s more than just an animation company.

Why do people buy merchandise of YouTubers?

Because diversifying income is the best way to sustain a channel rather than relying exclusively on advertising revenue. One option is Patreon, but some people only want to make a one-time donation, hence a PayPal, Flattr, or even Amazon Wishlist. In addition to this, some people want to not only support the show, but receive something in return for going the extra mile. On Patreon, these incentives take the form of perks, especially early access to videos. As for those one-timers, a T-Shirt with a show’s logo is no different than wearing a sports team’s jersey. Some YouTubers definitely handle the hands-on hoarding helpers better than others, especially art and animation channels, since the swag on sale sports some super sexy still life, stuff that stands alone and can be appreciated regardless of a non-savvy’s unfamiliarity with the show. Other ‘Tubers resort to mere glammed up gab, catchphrases and in-jokes that serve more as secret handshakes among the choir than free publicity pearls before the unconverted swine. There’s nothing wrong with it, but I’ve always seen it as selling one’s self short when a supposed success story can’t scrounge up the simoleons for a sketching specialist. The point is it’s a way for fans to show their appreciation for a show while supporting its cause.

Why No "Kingdom Hearts" At Tokyo Disneyland?

I visited Tokyo Disneyland in November, 2011.
I had a really fun time.
However, it was missing only one thing in common, "Kingdom Hearts".
I was looking forward to buying "Kingdom Hearts" merchandise.
But there was nothing relating to "Kingdom Hearts" anywhere at the park.
I understand that it's a collaboration between Square Enix and Disney.
My only guess is that perhaps either Disney or Square Enix couldn't afford the legal rights.
Or perhaps Square Enix refused to cash in and only get half the profits taken away from them by Disney.
Still in the end, not finding any "Kingdom Hearts" related attractions at Tokyo Disney land was extremely depressing.
No Disney amusement park in the world should be without "Kingdom Hearts", even in Japan.

Is it cheaper to buy disney items at the disney store rather than one of the parks?

Actually, most of the items that can be found at both the Disney Store and in Disney World are the same price. Disney Store will run sales and specials, which can make them cheaper. But the base price is the same.

However, there are a lot of things you can get in the parks that you just can't find in the Disney Store.

How much do you think a jacket at Disneyland would be?

Sweatshirts will run about $50. There is a Disney Outlet Store a few miles away from Disneyland on Harbor that carries authentic Disneyland merchandise. They have deep discounts on a lot of stuff. It's off season, but you can sometimes find some really good deals there! We usually stop there before going to the park to see what they have. I got a really nice Tinkerbell sweatshirt there one year for about $20.
You'll find the exact same merchandie in the park that you do in World of Disney in Downtown Disney...for the exact same price. If you're really looking to save money...try the outlet store first!

If I wanted to sell Disney-themed handmade items on Etsy, would that be copyright infringement?

Making something inspired by a copyrighted work may or may not be copyright infringement. Inspired is a vague word, and determining copyright infringement requires details such as how substantial of a portion of the original work you are using, how much originality and creativity you are putting in, whether your use of the original work harms the original work’s market value, and so on.One thing that worries me is you saying that it would be “obvious it was inspired by a character.” If the average person were to look at your handcraft items and immediately think of a specific Disney character, that suggests to me that there is more of Disney’s creative work in your items than there is of your own creative work. If so you would taking advantage of their creative work for your own gain, and not compensating them for it, which is what copyright law aims to prevent. But rather than asking strangers on the internet for their opinion, you should discuss your exact plans with an attorney knowledgable about the copyright laws in your country. Disney is very protective of their copyrights, and if they even think you are infringing on their rights, they will send their lawyers after you.

The theme parks each resort offers matters -- there's more parks and more to do at Disney. Universal is more limited in that area, but their parks are adding great new attractions, there are no block out dates, and their pass is a bit cheaper with significantly more perks and discounts.
