If I suspect a caregiver of an elderly family member is taking advantage of them by stealing from them or scamming them should I go to the cops, their bosses or, both?
This depends on how closely they work with their boss and how much you trust their boss. If you think their boss is likely to handle the situation correctly then tell them and mention that you would contact the authorities if the behaviour making you feel uncomfortable continued. If you doubt the boss’ motivation or ability to handle the situation then absolutely involve the authorities. I would say don’t use an emergency line of contact unless you think there’s immediate danger for this family member or someone else under their care but someone in a position of trust taking advantage is serious business.

It won't ruin his chances, but will make it a little harder. At our police service we do background checks on immediate family as well. The fact that he has had little to no contact with the father is good and also the fact that you are law abiding and have sole custody will be in his favour. He may have to emphasize to recruiters if asked that he does not condone his father's lifestyle and that he does not nor does he intend on, having any future contact with him. The best thing your son can do it to continue to stay out of trouble and to get involved in the community (ie. volunteer work) to prove his is committed to making his community a better place. I worked in our human resources dept. for a bit and I was involved in hiring a guy who had a bad *ss brother who was wanted for several b&e's. We hired him anyway because he was a exceptional person and he had no contact with his brother and had different friends. You can't pick your relatives.

Local law enforcement is concerned with the community, and it’s hard to serve the community when large portions of it know that engaging with the police will get them deported.Here is a very simple hypothetical: someone you love has been assaulted, and now they are in the hospital. The police seek witnesses to the attack so that they can find the perpetrator and send them to prison. That’s what you want! You very much want the person who put your loved one in critical care to be put behind bars.Well, the witness the police need to talk to is one of the waiters at the Chinese restaurant you’re incredibly concerned about.Would you rather live in a city where the violent criminal who injured your loved one is convicted of assault and put in prison, or a city where they get off scot free and get to continue attacking innocent people?The first city is a sanctuary city, one where everyone knows that the local police don’t do ICE’s work any more than the FBI goes around issuing parking tickets, and so the Chinese waiter feels safe going to the police and giving them the break in the case they need to get justice for the person you love.The second city is the one where local law enforcement goes around arresting illegal immigrants, and every single person at that restaurant knows that if they talk to the police for any reason there’s a good chance they’ll be deported back to China. None of them are foolish enough to do anything for your loved one if that is the price they will pay, and so a violent criminal gets to walk around free as a bird.
Can i call the cops on my mom for hitting me and/or verbally abusing me?
Im 16. My mom hits me when shes really mad but before that she does really crazy violent thinks like break stuff, throw stuff away. She swears at me and tells me im a ******* piece of trash and worthless and stupid and stuff like that. She complains about how she does all the work but she doesnt have a job so i dont see the problem. She says im worthless but she barely contributes anything to the family. When she has these fits, she literally acts insane and cant control herself. I think there may be an underlying issue which is that she has some mental disorder that she refuses to seek medical attention for and as a result, everyone around her has to suffer. Also, she has NO boundries. I dont know what to do.
