Can A Dentist Tell If You Smoke Occasionally

Can my dentist tell if I occasionally smoke?

Smoking causes other problems other than staining, but given the fact that you only smoke once or twice a week, I would think the effects of smoking would be minimal. Unless you mean you're smoking 1/2 packs a week, or that you're smoking some illicit drug.

Some common problems with smoking
1) staining
2) inflammation of roof of your mouth
3) Irregular gum color
4) bad breath
5) Link to periodontal disease
6) black tongue
7) oral cancer lesions

Don't be ashamed to tell the dentist that you smoke. It helps me diagnose treatment plans (if needed) for you.

Can dentist tell if you smoke occasionally?

I have a dentist apointment next week, i smoke weed ocasionally but not as often as i used too. Im kind of nervous beause my mom works at the dental place im going to and would freak out.

Can the dentist tell if you smoke?

Yes, 90% of the time. Lip color and tobacco stains on your teeth almost always give it away. Not so easy if you don't smoke regularly or smoke lighter cigs and some people don't stain much.

Will my dentist know that I smoke *occasionally?

Yes he will know because you will probably have pocketing and a discoloration on your teeth. Just tell him the truth so he doesn't think that you have a more serious problem and charge your parents more to fix something that isn't even wrong with you. Why people lie to health care professionals is a big mystery. And if you live in the United States, by law he can't tell your parents anything.

Can a dentist tell if you smoke meth?

I've been smoking meth for a while, maybe like six months, and I do it regularly. I don't have any severe dental problems that are obviously from meth, but a chunk of one of my back teeth fell out and now there's like a rotten black hole that's down to the gums... that's why I'm going to the dentist. BUT- can they tell if you smoke meth, even if you don't have really bad "meth mouth"? If so, will they tell my mom? Is it even *legal* for them to tell my mom? I'm 14...
Oh yeah, and no lectures please, I know meth is bad for my health. Really. Lectures aren't helpful. And neither are lectures that begin with 'I'm not gonna lecture you, BUT....'

Can dentist tell if u smoke weed?

Ok so I'm pretty young I'm 13 and I smoke weed I'm not too heavy about twice a week and I have to go to the dentist in about 2 weeks so I've read a lot of stuff about this but when I'm done smoking right before I start really getting high I brush my teeth really good so would the dentist be able to know? It's just a check up btw and also if they like figure out u smoke can they tell ur parents or would they? Thxs so much

Can the dentist tell if you smoke?

Every once in a long while I've run into a person who smokes but takes such great care of their teeth that they didn't get stain, but unless you're rinsing your mouth really well after each cigarette (which is a very good idea by the way), and have perfect brushing and flossing technique practiced twice daily you're going to get a distinct stain to some degree. Second hand smoke doesn't seem to produce that stain. After a while of smoking it's not just stain on your teeth either, there are actually spots that can develop on the roof of your mouth towards the back, and your tongue can look brown and hairy.

It's important to tell your dentist and hygienist that you smoke or are around smoke a lot because one of the dentist's most important jobs is looking for cancer and other head, neck, and mouth diseases or presentation of systemic diseases and if they know you're a smoker they might look just a little harder since that puts you in a higher risk category.
Obviously I'm for you quitting and I guess spending most of your time outside the house :)

Can a dentist tell if u have been smoking i have been smoking for a year but i rarely smoke everyday

well it depends on how much you smoke.. The answer is yes, but they usually won't tell if they spot it. They can also see if someone has taken drugs.
With smoking the back of some of your front teeth will get a yellowish brown colour on it.

If they are tainted it doesn't matter if you didn't smoke for a long time because it will be permanent..

good luck and all the best of luck from holland

Can a dentist tell if you've been smoking?.....?

Yes We Can Tell! I am sorry to say, we are not easily fooled. Smoking leaves many tell tale signs in your mouth that we can easily spot. We are not fooled by the vigorous brushing, mouthwash and gum chewing that you do (even if you haven't smoked the same day of your appointment)! As for whether we will tell your parents, most often we will not! We do need to know (despite what the person before me states) because smoking can have some very disastrous effects on your mouth and overall health. It is important for us to know, because smoking can cause devastating forms of cancer in your mouth and can promote gum disease (periodontal disease) and tooth decay. We will not usually tell on you, however; we will tell you how bad it is for you and offer ways to help you quit!

Can dentists tell when you smoke weed?

Yes and no. Mostly, a dentist will suspect but not be sure. Smoking cannabis will cause dry mouth and mild staining. Cannabis is a vasoconstrictor, meaning your gums will not bleed when prodded and appear a greyish pink/red.A dentist will encourage her or his patients to quit smoking but I cannot see it being an issue beyond that.
