Can A Female Dog Gets Pregnant When Mates Once

Can my female dog get pregnant at the end of her heat, she is not showing any kind of blood?

Normally bitch can only get pregnant for few days in the middle of her 3 weeks season; depends on when she ovulates and how long will the ova survive. If she ovulates on the day 12, she still might get pregnant several days later, although she might have less pups.BUT, over the years that I have been involved with breeding dogs I have seen:1 - my bitch who already had 2 litters, and mated predictably around the day 10 and 12. The 3rd time, although she was very willing, and the dog was interested, but not mating her. As the dog was relatively close by (about 20km from here) and she continued to be receptive, we kept trying, and finally we got a mating on the day 20 and 21, and had a full litter.2- friend who has number of dogs, had a bitch in season who they did not want to mate as yet, so to be safe they kept her separated for 4 weeks before they let her run with the other dogs. Nine weeks later, she gave birth to one pup.3- breeder I know imported a champion bitch from the other side of the world, and paid enough for her to buy modest house in our city, tried and tried to mate her on the 10 and 12the day, but she would not let him. Finally, they gave up and when she came in season they did not bother to even separate her from the other dogs. Then they saw her tied with their only male and litter of 7 pups were bornSo, normally, bitch should not get pregnant after 3 weeks, but nature does not always work that way.

How many days after my female dog mates will I tell she's pregnant?

Determining if your ***** is pregnant can be extremely difficult in the first few weeks of pregnancy.
If your ***** is pregnant the first sign is behavioural changes, she may avoid contact, not be hungry and be genuinely irritable. It is very normal for a pregnant dog to go off her food for the first few days due to hormonal changes in her body, very similar to "morning sickness" in humans. She may become more affectionate and cuddly later on but her exercise levels and want to play may decrease.
As you have stated the *****'s nipples will start to swell, this makes it easier for milk to pass through and the puppies to latch on. Another indication is colour change around the nipple, this may darken in colour.
After a month of your dog mating you may notice a rather large increase in appetite, this and the puppies growing inside will make her increase in weight.
Nearer the end of the pregnancy you may notice milk droplets forming on the nipples, this is completely normal as she prepares to have her puppies. She may develop nesting behaviour and start seeking a quiet, hidden, warm place.

Do dogs stop trying to mate once the female is pregnant?

I was just wondering, Do dogs stop trying to mate once the female is pregnant? Our girl is only in day 14 of being in heat and they were doing it all the time and now do not hardly do it at all anymore. I have never seen them do that before and i was just wondeing if they have a sense that tell them that she is pregnant and that is why they stopped trying to mate or could she just have had a short "in heat" time period?

I looked in all my books and did not find any answers on this.

Any help would be appreciate.

Can a female dog get pregnant by more than one male?

Ok so i had a couple different people tell me that if a female dog mates w more than one male then mom will birth puppies from both! I googled it and i found it was a mith but my dog gave birth three days ago and 2 of the pups looked like one male and the other two pups looked like the other male! So is it true? Did both males get her pregnant? Do two of the pups have one dad and the others have a different dad?

Can a male dog that's neutered get a female pregnant?

No because they physically take out the reproductive organs so that's not possible and if a pregnant dog was supposed to be fixed they obviously didn't remove the organs correctly and if you the male dog and it got the female pregnant and you were the one that was supposed to be fixed not the female then obviously they did a shitty job fixing the male dog and if they were both supposed to be fixed and got pregnant from each other then whoever did both of them should be fired so I will again say no they cannot get each other pregnant because the reproductive organs are removed when they are fixed

Can a female dog get pregnant by two different males?

Yes. Years ago, near where I lived - a breeding was going on of Walker Hounds, beautiful dogs. Anyway, one was born, looking like a Doberman. That dog immediately went to the local pound. Someone adopted him and he was passed along until he was mine. Everyone knew the dog, he was famous because people just couldn’t keep a secret about the litter. He was my doggie for 19 years. One day he was crying at the door. I opened the door and he stood there like.. he wanted me to come with him. I sat on the step with him barefoot and we prayed together. He would bow his head when I prayed. When I was done, reciting the 23rd Psalm, I asked him if he would like to walk together. We knew that he had lung cancer. As I turned to grab my shoes, he took off like a bolt. I never saw him again, I think he was leaving to go die alone. I don’t think he wanted me or my children to see him die.Four years later, I was in the same house, and I was running the vacuum in the living room. My four year old, pre-K daughter screamed - don’t run over the big doggie, Mom! I looked at her. And I asked, what does the doggie look like. She said he’s black and tan. No one had ever told her, that his favorite spot was in front of the fire place at night, and that’s where I was working. I believe he stayed with our family for a very long time. I still miss him very much.

If a dog is already pregnant, can a male dog still want to mate with her?

The majority of the answers are correct, a female dog that is truly pregnant is no longer in “heat” and therefor will not attract males nor stand for them to be bred. All dogs however do hump as a form of domination and that has nothing to do with mating or making babies. I did notice that no one mentioned that a female dog can be bred by multiple males and produce puppies from several different males, so the puppies have one mother but they can each have different fathers. Hopefully the poor female has not been left outside where all these males can take their turn with her. Please remember to spay and neuter your pets, there are far too many animals in need of loving homes to find it necessary to breed dogs and cats. ALSO, there is an old wives-tail that a female should be allowed to have at least one litter of puppies, that is wrong. Waiting until the animal is old enough to breed only makes it less likely she will have any sort complications from the spaying because her organs are grown. Females dogs who are spay too early can have problems with incontinence, but that is as much an issue with an inexperienced or over confident veterinarian as it is with an immature dog. Spaying/neutering an animal not only prevents unwanted pregnancies and behavioral issues but it greatly reduces their risk of many types of cancer.

Will a male dog try to mate with a female more than once?

A male dog will mate multiple times a day if given the chance.

Can a dog get pregnant it's first time mating?

*** Well I hope everybody is happy now!!! I told my Mom because I don't want anything to happen to Sasha. My Mom is so angry and upset with me now! I wish I hadn't told her! She got so mad at me because she just recently got some kind of health papers back on Nicky and he is all complete and good, but Sasha has none!! She said Sasha is to young and I've ruined everything! She is taking her to the vet. She told me how much irresponsible I am!

I don't feel like all of it is my fault. Sasha was whining and I was only trying to let her out to go to the bathroom. I also was trying to put Nicky in the kennel when he got away from me and then the door came open. It was an accident, so I don't understand why everybody is blaming me one hundred perceant! My Mom said she will not leave Sasha at home and will board her out with some people she knows the next time she comes in heat because I am so irresponsible! She yelled at me until she got tired of it and now sh

How do dogs get pregnant?

There is no evidence that irregular heat cycles predispose the dog to false pregnancies or pyometra (uterine infection). Small breeds tend to cycle more regularly than the larger breeds. Three and occasionally four heat cycles per year can be normal in some females.Source: Getting Pregnant Naturally While “Infertile” – Talz Mag – Medium“Heat” cycles vary, but average two to three weeks for most dogs. “Heat” should be considered to begin with the first signs of vulvar discharge, or when the female begins licking or paying attention to her vulva. The vulva will begin to appear swollen. It ends when all discharge ceases and the vulva has returned to its normal size. From the beginning of the heat period she will be attractive to male dogs, but will usually not be receptive, or allow mating, until about 7–10 days later. The discharge will usually become less bloodstained at this time. Both tests can be performed at the veterinary practice. The serum progesterone test gives a very good indication of when mating is most likely to be successful and is useful for females that have a history of unsuccessful mating or for breeding dogs that have to travel a considerable distance to the male dog.The time of mating is extremely critical and it is highly recommended that you have tested your female to determine the optimal days for breeding. For most females, the best time for breeding is between the tenth and fourteenth day of oestrus. However, some females ovulate as early as the third or fourth day or as late as the eighteenth day. Blood tests will assist in determining the best period for your dog.The genital anatomy of the male and female is such that during coitus part of the dog’s penis (the bulbis glandis) enlarges and is held firmly by the contracted muscles of the vagina, thus preventing the penis from being withdrawn. This is the “tie” that is considered a desirable feature of a successful mating. It is important to note that pregnancy can occur without a “tie”. Once “tied” the male dog will often step over the female or be turned by handlers into a position so that the animals are back to back. There is little point in trying to separate animals that are locked in this way. Buckets of cold water, water pistols, cap guns, and so forth do little to speed up the process of separation and merely upset the dogs. In fact, forced separation can result in serious injury to the female and should be avoided.
