Can Anxiety Cause Unusual Heart Beats And Shortness Of Breath

Can extreme panic and anxiety cause shortness of breath?

I've been feeling it all day. Shortness of breath, that is. I also feel my heart beating through my chest, and my hands have been trembling a lot. Could this be anxiety, panic stress, etc. I got in a bad car wreck about a week ago, but walked away uninjured. Could it be linked to this? I am going to the doctor on tuesday, should I go sooner? Please just tell me anything, I just want to feel better.

Can caffeine cause shortness of breath?

Caffeine is a stimulant and constricts your blood vessels which can cause your heart to beat faster to keep up with your body's oxygen demands. The fast heart rate can cause shortness of breath. Some people are more sensitive to this than others, and dehydration can exacerbate these symptoms. You could also be having premature ventricular contractions of the heart(heart skipping a beat) which can also make you short of breath... Chill out on the caffeine, or at least drink water with your coffee.

EVERY DAY/almost alllllll the time my heart feels funny. its not too fast but it feels fasta dn gets worse when i think about it, which is almost all the time. and it beats hard and i have shortness of breath bad. it feels like its dropping or skipping a beat alot. if this helps, I am 20, very tiny, 100 lbs, i smoke ALOT sometimes i go through a pack a day ONLY SOMETIMES, and i was recently 5 weeks pregnant about a month ago....had an abortion. Why does consuming caffeine cause me shortness of breath?

I used to have a similar issue, also with coffee (kind-of) and was short of breath regularly. The doctor checked my Blood oxygen levels and all were good. I am also a runner and normally had no issues maintaining a 9 minute mile for 10+ miles. Yet I regularly felt like I needed to to take deep breaths and they were “felt” unsuccessful.About 10 months ago I was reading a book on food allergies related to a need my daughter had and realized that this might be the issue. After numerous months of tracking food and tracking shortness of breath I realized that I had an allergy to cow’s milk. Including the creamer I was using in my coffee. As it turns out I had numerous symptoms and was never connecting them together including: shortness of breath, diarrhea one day and constipation the next, anal itching, eczema, lethargy especially the first few hours after ingestion, and a year round, constant running nose (always had tissues with me). All of these symptoms have now gone!If your like me then the breathing was not severe enough to call an ambulance but very uncomfortable. I can tell you that removing ALL dairy form my diet has literally changed my life.I would suggest you look into any allergies including: food, household chemicals, indoor toxins like molds, clothes detergents, pet allergies, etc…It might take months to find but with the help of an allergy doctor I sure you can find the culprit.

I feel shortness of breath and cannot speak properly when I am under strain, excitement or any situation where my nerves get agitated. Is this a nervous disorder? If so, how do I cure it?

This sounds perfectly normal. It's your body's way of getting ready for a challenge. That's what causes all these crappy symptoms...Your lungs open up --> shortness of breath Your heart beats faster --> thumping chest Your veins open up --> blushing Less blood goes to your digestive system --> butterflies Your skin cuts off blood flow --> pale and clammy skin Your body is getting ready, and it's a good thing. The same thing happens with most everyone. Studies have shown that in high stress social situations (like giving a speech), the physical signs (heart rate, sweating, etc) are THE SAME in everyone, regardless of if you're nervous or not. So yeah, there's probably nothing wrong with you! OK, that being said, what can you do to calm your body when it gets too much? It's called DEEP BREATHING (aka pranayamic breathing): Take a huge deep breath completely filling your lungs and belly (5 seconds in)Hold it and really feel the stretch in your lungs Exhale slowly and completely (5 seconds out)The optimal breath is 6 breaths every minute. What this does is calm the physiology of your body by disengaging the sympathetic nervous system. Basically, in your lungs you have pulmonary stretch receptors. Your stomach and lungs sense the fullness, and send signals to your brain to trigger the relaxation system. Hope this helps!Dan Watch my video "Can Breathing Really Make You Less Nervous?"

I have heart palpitations 24/7 and shortness of breath?

I can feel my heart beat strongly in my chest and all through my body, and usually about once or twice a day I have to catch my breath and there is a weird feeling in my chest. It seems to be beating faster than normal too.

The symptoms match anxiety but I have this 24/7 and I'm not anxious about anything. I lost some blood a couple of weeks ago with two bowel movements so maybe I'm anemic?

Can anxiety cause you to have heart attack-like symptoms?

I've been dealing with this for about 5-6 months now. Chest pains, fast or slow heartbeat, trouble breathing, and skipped heartbeats. Sometimes it'll happen non stop for days at a time, then I'll go days or sometimes even weeks with no problems. There was one time about 3 months ago I went to the emergency room cause I literally thought I was having a heart attack. They took X-rays of my chest & lungs & hooked me up to all sorts of machines & ran all sorts of tests & found nothing wrong with my heart. The doctor ended up saying its just severe anxiety & I need to be put on medication for it. This didnt suprise me, cause Ive struggled with depression & anxiety & all that stuff since I was 13 & have been on several meds for it. It's just crazy to believe I could have such bad heart problems simply from anxiety. Has anyone else had similar issues? Or can anyone offer some more insight on this?
