Can Belly Button Hernia Surgery Go Wrong After One Year

How long does it take before a hernia kills you if you didn't get surgery?

Surgery is the only way to cure a hernia. A hernia will not go away on its own but will increase in size if left untreated. An untreated hernia may also result in obstruction (intestinal blockage) and "strangulation," which requires immediate medical attention. Strangulation occurs when the blood supply to the herniated bowel is cut off or greatly reduced, causing the bowel tissue to die or rupture. The surgical results with smaller hernias are more satisfying as compared to large hernias. Surgery for hernia is:Laparoscopic surgery: A laparoscopic hernia operation is a minimally invasive approach that involves the use of laparoscope and allows a laparoscopic surgeon to repair the weakened area through several small incisions (about a half-centimetre), using a non absorbable mesh to cover the weak area.Visit Hernia Repair Surgery for more queries.

Could I get my belly button pierced after having umbilical surgery?

When I was 5 I had surgery to remove my umbilical hernia. It has fully healed now, I am 15 now. But my belly button looks kind of like a snail shell. Like how it goes in a swirl kind of pattern. I was wondering if it would still look good if I got it pierced and if it would be safe. It has 10 years to heal and from far away my belly button looks normal, just up close it looks nearly exactly like a snail shell.
Thanks! :)

Umbilical hernia surgery?

I also formed an umbelical hernia during my third pregnancy.

You really need to have the procedure done. It can cause more harm down the road if you do not. The hernia could expand/grow large enough to interfere with your intestines, which could make for some nasty problems for you!!

They will put you to sleep for the procedure. Is will be an out-patient surgery. They will make a small incision in your belly button, remove the hernia, then sew in a mesh to keep it from growing back. For at least 6 weeks you will be on restriction as far as picking up anything heavy, including your child. I have 3, so that part was difficult for me. Someone will need to stay with you the first few days, because just getting in and out of bed, is painful. You will keep ice packs on it, it helps to ease the pain. The majority of the pain is in the first 3 days or so.

I'm trying to be honest here. The pain from the surgery is nothing compared to the pain, and heartache it could cause if left untreated.

Mine was done almost 9 months ago, and I am completely back to normal. I feel I was back to normal before the 6 week restriction was up.

Good luck!

Can you live with a hernia for a long time without surgery? If so, how and for which types of hernias?

I’m sure it depends on which type of hernia you’re talking about, but I know that you can live with an Inguinal Hernia as long as it does not get strangulated. Actually you can even reverse and even heal a hernia by taking proactive measures.I personally have been living with an Inguinal Hernia for over four years while trying to heal it naturally without surgery. I write a blog where I have chronicled everything I’ve done up to this point. In the time that I have been writing the blog I’ve talked to hundreds of different people about inguinal hernias, and noticed that there are some common elements that we all share which are: tension in the musculature of the hips, limited hip mobility, incorrect pelvic posture (usually anterior pelvic tilt), weakness in the muscles surrounding the inguinal canal, and intestinal swelling (usually diet related).Once I reaized this pattern, I was able to put a plan in place to fix each component, and within 6 months my hernia went from being the size of 2 golf balls to nothing at all. I no longer feel the pressure that I used to feel, or see a lump. The only way I was able to accomplish this though is because I was able to keep the hernia in place by wearing a comfortable hernia truss that I would put on as soon as I got out of bed in the morning. I was also doing certain exercises to fix each component mentioned above. If you do go to a doctor for your hernia most likely they will either prescribe “watchful waiting” or surgery. If you are prescribed watchful waiting, you are basically just prolonging the surgery by doing nothing about the problem. But there is another option which I call “proactive intervention”. Maybe someday this will be recognized as an alternative treatment for inguinal hernias.

Can you have more kids after having umbilical hernia surgery?

Yes, you can get pregnant after having an umbilical hernia repair. Most likely, if the surgeon thinks that you have a chance of developing it again, he/she will put in a small piece of mesh to reinforce the defected fascia. It shouldn't be a problem, but I'd mention wanting to get pregnant because that might be the deciding factor in whether they will want to use mesh or not. It's possible to close the fascia over the defect without mesh at all, but better reinforcement with mesh.
