Can I Access Save Files Of Steam Games From Different Computers

Are Steam games saved data saved through your Steam account?

Yes.After you close games, they will sync with your steam account sending any of your personal data to the steam servers. When you log into a new computer, that saved data will be in the cloud and accessed and downloaded when you start the game.Be carefulSome games don’t sync with the cloud and you will have to transfer them with a usb stick. I had a problem with dark souls not syncing, so I had to use a Flash drive to move my game to a new computer.

If I buy a game on Steam in one computer, is there any way I can play it on another computer? And will my game progress be saved?

You can definitely play it on another computer. As long as you have Steam installed, you can re-download your game any number of times and play it again. As for if your game progress is saved: depends on the game.On the Store page of the game, look for this symbol:If it exists, it means that the game uses Steam Cloud service, and that means your saved games are (or can be) saved to the cloud. Usually if the feature is there, it will happen automatically each time you run the game, as long as you are connected to the Internet and to Steam.

How do I find the saved file for a flash game on my computer?

you can try the old fashioned method

start > run > cmd
in the little black command window that pops up do the following:

cd \ [press enter]

dir /a /s /b *.sol > list.txt [press enter]

open the list.txt file with notepad and see if it listed your game file Ω

Can Steam game files be copied to another computer, via thumb drive or other method, so that I do not have to redownload them?

Yes they can.  Here is what you need to do:1. Go to the drive steam is installed on and go to the follow folder I.E. E:\Program Files (86)\Steam\steamapps\common and copy the game (s) you want to move or save2. Copy the games to the new computers common folder.3. When you opens steam on the new computer it will not show them installed.  You need to install them.  Right click on the game you copied and click 'install game' and it will go through the process and say 'Discovering Existing Files.  It will take about 1 - 4 minutes depending on the game.4.  Enjoy.  Hope this helps.

For the game Alice: Madness Returns, how can I transfer save files from one computer to another?

Alright, so I bought this game, Alice: Madness Returns, on Steam some time ago, but my computer at the time could not handle the game well. A bit later I took a trip to California to see my boyfriend, and during the trip I was able to beat the game. Now, I am home and I have bought a new computer. I noticed that the game saves were simply in Libraries > Documents > My Games > Alice Madness Returns, so we figured we cou;ld just copy the files and transfer them over via Skype. I have seen people taking their save files and putting them on other consoles or hard drives, but I am not using a console, and/or the forum where the question was asked about it was just not answered. My boyfriend tried to send me my .RAR file, I got it, but I can't do anything with it, and it doesn't register when I put it into my Alice folder that it is there. I am not exactly computer savvy so I'm unsure of how these things work - or if I can get my saved game info from his computer. Is it stuck on his forever? If not, how can I put it onto my computer?

Can i import my mass effect 2 save files from steam into mass effect 3?

My collectors edition box for Mass Effect 3 just came in today. I've installed it and tried to play...but there is a problem.

I can't import my saves. I played Mass Effect 2 a long time ago. I purchased it through steam. I found my save files for my characters through the directory Rick/documents/bioware/Mass Effect 2/save or something like that. I got a new computer because my old one (on which the files were saved) wouldn't be able to handle ME3. I attacked these files to an email to myself. I downloaded them on my new computer and placed them in the directory Rick/documents/bioware/mass effect 3/saves or something close. My game couldn't find my character!

Now, I played Mass Effect 2 on steam, but for #3 i have a hard disk that i got in the collectors edition pack--NOT steam. Is it that the steam version of me2 files cannot interact with my me3 ones? Or is it because my me2 files originated from a different computer?

Would accessing my steam account and installing mass effect 2 to get fresh files from the cloud sync allow me3 to import my character?

Is anyone else having an issue like this?

Can I play my saved games on any PC with a Steam Account?

Technically yes. You can move the game content to other PC, and login with same Steam account on different PC, and you can start playing from there. In reality, only 50% of the games starts right away. Some of them force updates, some of them cant detect files and start downloading games again and lot of minor issues with game loading occurs. Besides the folder structure and drive letter changes also cause numerous detection issues for the game files. If you constantly want to move between multiple PCs, I suggest you create your steam directory on the external hard drive, and make sure you have same drive letter every time you connect different PC. This will slow down performance like 3–5% but avail you the convenience of multiple PCs.

Will I lose every progress in my Steam games when I change computer?

While it is true that you will not lose progress in any games that use steam cloud, this does not represent the sum total of all games Steam sells. Old games will lose progress if you do not act to prevent it in advance. To this day, games are being created that will lose progress if you do not act to prevent it.If there are specific games that you wish to save progress on, start googling them to find out where they keep their save files. If you're on Windows, you'll find many of the saves in subdirectories of C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local. For instance, World Of Goo saves in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\2DBoy\pers2.dat and does not back up to Steam cloud. Older games may save directly into the game folder in your Steam directory. Lastly, there are games (such as Thomas Was Alone) that save so little data that they can do it in the Windows registry. You will lose progress on such games unless you know the registry keys involved and what to set them to.

Can i buy a steam game on one computer and download on another?

Games you buy through steam are registered to your steam account, not your computer. As long as your new computer has steam (which I would assume you're getting one way or another), and you log in with your old steam account you can download the games you purchased beforehand no problem.
