Can I Attend Court For Speeding Ticket Before Appearance Date On The Ticket And Hope Officer

Speeding ticket, what happens in court....................?

The court date you were given with the ticket is an initial appearance. The officer does not have to be there. If you plea not guilty, it will be set for trial. The officer will be required to show up for that date.

Officers not showing up is for the most part a myth. On jy department, you get a minimum of 2 hours overtime just for showing up. Other departments in my area get 4 hours. A speeding trial would last about 10 or 15 minutes, so it is easy money. In addition, if an officer missed court he can be disciplined by the department, and the DA will not be pleased. No one wants to upset the DA.

Speeding ticket. Court date.?

You need to call the phone number listed on the citation and explain. If you don't your license will be suspended and a warrant for failing to appear will be issued (if it hasn't been already). And you have to attend court in the jurisdiction where the citation was issued. Yes, it's a long drive. But if you don't contact the clerk ASAP, I predict a bus ride back in your future. Not to mention the costs and headaches.

Speeding Ticket. Mandatory Court Appearance.?

It depends on your state and county in the state. Its usually mandatory appearance as that is a felony speeding charge.
What about posting bail? Noone says your going to jail here, if you were going to jail the cops would of taken you.
Research the fines, I would of looked but you didnt say what state. You will have huge fines, you can have your liscense suspended, your insurance upon renewal, will go UP, no matter if you change companies or not, and stay up for a few years, like 3 or 4 maybe. Stay with the same insurance so you get their long term policy discount when they can give it to you.
You gotta search your own state and county, without that, theres nothing left to post. Your age, years of driving, your amount of tickets, accidents, your fault or not, will all be taken into account. They are trying to save us from you, thats why thier so tough. Sometimes, you can go on your own and take a state approved defensive driving class, and offer the certification of completion to the judge, to get him to see your now really regreting what you did.

Mandatory Court Appearance for Speeding Ticket?

The way tickets work in California is that you can post bail before the appearance date on the ticket. You can post that bail at any time, and can probably do it through the mail or online. If you do not appear on the appearance date, then the bail is forfeited and you stand convicted of the offense. The forfeited bail IS your fine (people saying it is not are just wrong), and the conviction is then reported to the DMV. If you do not post bail, you have to appear. If you want to contest the ticket, you have to appear.

You may also wish to consider traffic school, if it is available. If it is not automatically allowed (a lot of courts do not automatically offer traffic school for high speed), you could consider going to court and asking the hearing officer to permit it, anyway. It will cost a bit more, but keep it off your record.

Speeding ticket court date question?

In my state, you're asked to plea one of three ways: responsible, responsible with explanation, or not responsible. You'll have to convince the magistrate or judge why they should lower the charge. Are you a student in school and have no money? If the answer is yes, then they're probably willing to work with you.

Chances are pretty good that you'll see him/her. In my court, we wait just down the hall from everyone else. You could approach him. Most people get too nervous to do this for some reason, probably because there's a lot of us just waiting around and they think it's a restricted area or something.

You could also try to talk to the prosecutor, and ask about a 0 point citation. They'll be able to get you and the officer together to discuss it. I almost always agree to a 0 point citation for first time offenses. Second citations, it really depends on the circumstances...

Speeding Ticket Question-- Must appear in court?

So about a week ago I got pulled over for speeding 60 in a 30. The cop gave me a standard speeding ticket. But he said I couldn't mail in the fine, that HE wanted to SEE me in court on my court date. I don't see why I can't just mail in the ticket or why I should go to court just because he wants to see me there.

What would happen if I just mailed in the fine anyway and went about my business? I would figure that since all he gave me was a speeding ticket, if I mail it in then as far as the state is concerned my commitment has been met, and he can't do anything about it. If it helps, I live in TN.

Do i have to go to court for a speeding ticket?

Most tickets in GA, including the one you got, can be paid before the court date; this is a guilty plea, and you don't have to go to court. But some courts do require a court appearance for certain offenses, and it varies by court.

If the court clerk said she would send your license to the DMV, that doesn't necessarily mean it's for a license suspension for failure to appear. It could mean that they will notify the DMV of your guilty plea so the DMV could assess points.

In other words, there is not enough information in your question for me to give a complete answer. Where you got the ticket affects whether you have to attend court or not. You should call the court clerk back again, and ask if you have still have to appear in court *even though you have already paid the fine and plead guilty*, If the clerk says yes, then you have to appear. If the clerk says no, ask if the first answer about "send my license to the DMV" just meant that it's so the DMV can assess points.

In any event, going to court might have been a good idea, because some judges will allow you take traffic school and avoid the points. But if the fine has already been paid, it's too late. Next time don't be so quick the pay the fine.

I know this because of the source below. It has contact info for all GA courts, but it also has links to the courts' websites (if they have one) and links to more info including traffic case info.

If you pay a speeding ticket, do you still have to go to court??

If you were pleading guilty, which just means that you just wanted to pay the ticket and not try to fight it then you can just pay the ticket at the court house. From what you have said here it doesn't sound like you were supposed to go to court. I'd take the letter to the court house or call them, that way you don't risk getting pulled over. Explain to them what happend and hopefully it will get taken care of. It sounds like the officer forgot to turn your ticket in and did so after your due date or something I don't know, that's weird. You usually don't have to go to court unless you tell them that you want to fight it. I hope that you have a receipt showing that you paid it or that you wrote a check or something so that you can prove that it was paid. Yes, police and court workers do make mistakes. That's the way things work in Michigan anyways. Good Luck.
