Can I Bath My Cat She Just Got Spayed And The Vet Didnt Tell Me Anything About The Stitches.

Alternatives to Cone for Spayed Cat?

We recently had our 6mos old kitten spayed (Friday). She did NOT want to wea the 10cm cone we had for her. No matter how tight I tied it she rips it off. I bought Apple Bitters (a spray to make licking herself disagreeable). I've tried a stocking for around her abdomen however the incision is too far back for the stocking to cover. Total cost of spaying: $160 CAN
Tonight (Sunday) I came how and she had chewed off all three external stitches and at least one internal stitch. With the gaping wound now open and being licked at (see: infection) I had call another vet and have them come in for an emergency service to restitch. Total cost: $275 CAN
So, I've spent enough. She's already home and somewhat dazed. Any recommendations as to how to help the kitten cope with the collar She absolutely HATES it and flops around like fish out of water. She then is able to get all four paws behind it to rip it off.
I'm broke, worried, and stressed.

When my kitten was at the vets for spaying, they said she went berserk when they were putting on her vest to stop her messing with her stitches. As a veterinarian, well used to handling animals, what would this mean?

Going to the vet, being fasted, driving in the car and then left at an unfamiliar place with weird smells and sounds, is very stressful, especially for a kitten who hasn’t done much of that. Also, some cats react to anesthesia this way. They get confused and disoriented and growl and hiss and cry. Hopefully that vet gave her some pain meds and some for you to take home for her. 3 days is standard for oral pain meds.We had one 13 week old kitten spayed recently and she was the same. So angry, till she got home where all things were familiar.

How much spaying a cat will cost in India?

This depends on whom you go to for spaying.A government veterinary hospital will charge for the medicines (all the dressing, surgical kits required for the surgery). Now this may amount to say Rs 1000–1500.If you go to a reputed NGO like Blue Cross, or in case of Pune, Canine Control and Care, they will charge nothing for the surgery, but will charge for post-op care. Which comes to around 300 per day for 5–6 days. This may amount to Rs 1500–1800.If you go to a private VET who you trust and with whom you have had a good experience, they will charge anywhere from Rs 2000–5000. Post op is usually not required, or depends from case to case.Personally, I have had all my 3 cats spayed from Private VETs. Yes it is expensive, but they didn't suffer from any complications later on.I've had a similar experience with Govt veterinary hospitals and NGOs. Except that it is inexpensive. Please make sure that you get the post op done, because cats are known to open and scratch out their stitches which can lead to complications.Hope this helped, thanks.

Can my cat clean her incision after being spayed?

I just had cat spayed, and the vet told me to keep him from licking the incision EXCESSIVELY. So, of course, I asked what exactly "excessively" means. The vet told me that it's all right if she gives it a couple licks to clean it, but if she seems to be spending a lot of time licking he belly get her to stop. My cat didn't need a collar and she was fine.

You shouldn't get too worried about the occasional lick. If the cat licks the area a lot (more than you'd think she'd lick any other part of her body when cleaning) or if she looks like she's trying to bite at the stitches stop her, and talk to your vet about ways you can prevent her from getting at them.

To stay on the safe side, you might want to give your vet a call and discuss it. You shouldn't even need to take the cat in, just call the office and ask to speak to a vet. Then tell her your concerns. Is it ok if the cat cleans it? How much licking is too much? Your vet will be able to give you an idea of how much cleaning is normal and whether or not you'll need a collar for her.

My cat got spayed yesterday and won't eat???

The vet should have told you when you picked her up that she should have a small amount of water and just alittle food when you first bring her home. The medicine she received has her feeling groggy and it will last a couple days. As for not having her spayed, it was best for her and you. If you have ever been around a female cat when she comes into heat you will know that you or the neighbors will not sleep for 2 weeks. The male cats for a mile around will bombard your home and the noise is enough to wake the dead. It was best for you and your cat. She will be a happy kitty in just a few days. And the world does not need any more unwanted kittens.

My dog just got spayed and won't stop playing??? help???

My 3 year old Jack Russell terrier that i adopted from the Animal Shelter yesterday got spayed two days ago. the animal shelter told me to not let her jump around at all for a week which is like impossible. she's jumping around like crazy, running around and i can't make her stop.. any advice???

She warmed up really quick to ME for being beatin' in her previous home, whenever im around she always wants to play!

My Dog is getting spayed tomorrow. Should I Be afraid???

First of all, thanks for spaying your dog!

Secondly, the vet will let you know how to handle her when you pick her up. Limit activity and jumping and try to keep her calm. I laid on the floor with my lab when she came home. Make sure she doesn't lick her stiches - you may want to consider staying home with her for the first 2 days, I did just to be on the safe side.

Getting dog neutered; regular stitches or the glued one?

When my two male dogs were neutered, they both had stiches. So we HAD to go back in 2 weeks to get them removed. It's a nice little visit so the vet can actually check up on the dog and make sure everything is looking good. If the glue is used, a lot of owners don't go back for a check up visit in a couple weeks, and infections can go unnoticed for a period of time. Although I would of taken them back in anyways, and even sooner if I noticed any problems.

When my two female cats were spayed, the glue wasn't used, but the dissolving stiches were used. On one hand, it was nice not having to worry about going back and getting them removed. On the other, the stitches stuch around for about 2-3 months, and by the second months they were looking pretty gross, with the trapped hair and such that just naturally got tangled up in them.

Maybe not much help because you are talking about the glue and not the dissolving stitches, but I would personally go with whatever the vet goes with. In the end, they both work, and your vet will be much more comfertable and better with what they are use to using.
