Would you call the cops on your neighbors for playing loud music?
Normally I have a "live and let live" outlook but the noise seems excessive today. I think it's a graduation party so I don't want to get into an argument with 50 drunks! I have a feeling I'm not the only unhappy neighbor! Thanks everyone, enjoy your weekend! :)
How can I get my neighbors to stop playing loud music??
I live in a duplex and the neighbors upstairs are driving me nuts with their loud bass. I'm a college student, and I can't sleep because they are playing it as late as 4 am! We've talked to them nicely about it, nothing changed. We then asked them again (a little more forceful) to keep it down. Told the landlord, he left them a note, no change. I take a broom with me to bed to bang on the ceiling to get them to stop and that doesn't work. What do we do? I pay a lot for rent so it's not fair I can't live peacefully. Any ideas?

I live in a townhouse apartment complex and my neighbors are all quite friendly as am I, but my neighbors to the left of me play their music too loud. Between 9am- 2pm , they blast their music. I can constantly hear the thumping of the bass for hours. I turn up the volume of my tv, the radio, anything, but I cant get away from the noise, the vibration of the music is just that overpowering. I've knocked on the walls to suggest that they turn their music down and they have complied once, but that's it. I just want to be able to watch tv, study, read a book without the obnoxious music of my neighbors to accompany it. Sometimes I think I am being overly sensitive, but if you walk past the door to thier apartment you can hear every word to the song. I havent complained to the landlord because I feel that I am being too sensitive as there seems to have been no one else to complain about the matter. What should I do?

No. Ask them to turn down the volume. Now if they don't listen to your polite request then Call the police. Are you sure they're Mexicans? So what if they have a BBQ outside? My neighbors keep playing loud music I live in a apartment its real nice and cute in a nice neighborhood but the only problem is the neighbors are making it bad I banged the broom up there they still wont turn it down then my sister banged the broom up there and screamed turn that music down they still want stop we don't get along with them what should we do?The property manager said she couldn't do anything we'll have to call the cops we don't wanna call the cops because it will start a big confusion.

You can, but it might be better to ask them to turn it down first. That is, of course, unless your neighbors are complete tools. If that's the case, then definitely call the cops. It's called Disturbing the Peace.
How do I stop my neighbors from playing Spanish music loud outside while entertaining their guests who are extremely loud themselves?
My Puerto Rican neighbors entertain outside a lot. They speak Spanish to each other very loudly and they play Spanish music very loudly and they make my pleasant quiet neighborhood sound like we're in the ghetto. I know they have the right to do whatever they want in their own yard, but my back yard faces theirs and it makes me uncomfortable. There's no privacy and I already have a nice white picket fence set up between the 2 yards since I got along well with the previous owner and we both have beautiful gardens we both enjoyed to look at. I really don't want to replace it with a high fence. It wouldn't block the music out anyway or the sound if them speaking Spanish. No one else around me plays music of any kind loudly like they do. What can I do to stop it without causing trouble between me and them?

You can. I did. I was living in N-Block Kalkaji; year 2013, and usually on:Mondays and Wednesdays every week, behind my house there was a temple which had chants from morning 5am till night 1am. Often large processions etc. In addition to this, there used to be marriage parties as well.Tuesdays and Thursdays, there used to be parties next to the apartment I was living in; wherein local guys with girls would party all night; and then either get drunk, abuse or fight on the streets. In addition to this, which is a common social norm in Delhi, pimps would turn up in cars with their girls (hookers) for the guys to choose from; and trade-and-barter used to carry on till middle of the night to wee hours of the morning.I had called the cops a number of times; most time they were extremely lazy to do anything.Once they said - we cannot do anything because it is a Hindu temple. And that is a norm in India.For the parties, they had once come, took some cash from the folks and left. Later my house-owner who has DCP connections told and laughed when he heard this - because in most rich localities (like Defense Colony, C.R.Park, Kalkaji etc.) the Delhi police only manages the girls and the pimps.In real life, nothing will get done.Delhi cops are one of the most corrupted cops in India; instead you could get in trouble. They will place a small packet of cocaine or weed in your jacket and frame you for keeping drugs for additional cash.

Yes, you can call the police, but whether the police do anything about your neighbour’s music depends upon:Whether the police are responsible for enforcing the local noise bylaw (for example, that responsibility might belong to a city by-law officer);Whether the police (assuming they are in fact responsible for enforcing the noise bylaw) actually have resources available to investigate your complaint, relative to their other calls that night; andWhether your neighbour is actually in violation of the relevant noise bylaw. This may depend upon the time of day/night and day of the work, plus the noise level of the music (as measured in decibels) relative to the limits imposed in the noise bylaw.
What can I do about a neighbor who constantly plays loud music and won’t answer the door when I go over to confront them? I have exams and I can’t concentrate on revision during the day, and at night I can’t sleep because of it.
I’ll give you my best advice that’s recently works for me. First of all whatever everyone else tells you DO NOT come to your neighbor and ask them to lower the music (nicely or not doesn’t matter) why? because believe me you will have to ask them to lower their music again and again in the future. There will be a time when you’re sick of doing that but if you end up calling the cops to do the job, that neighbor will know it’s you! … so instead just call the cops right away the first time, they won’t be cited if it’s just their first time they’ll just be warned.Call the local non emergency police station before they’re closed, and ask them to address the noise violation and to please cite the neighbors with it, let the operator know if they’ve been warned by the police before and a repeat offender (which is my case). If this is the first noise complaint then take down the date and time so the second time it happens you can let the operator know and have these idiots cited.Cops don’t usually come right away, it takes an hour before they call you back and ask whether you still hear the noise and wants an officer to come, just say yes if you still hear it and again remind them to give these neighbors noise violation citation.The citation made all the difference and it was one of the best decision I’ve made so far.
