Can I Color Over Elumen With A Drugstore Hair Color Brand

Can I color over Elumen with a drugstore hair color brand?

I've had purple Elumen in my hair for months. I'm sick of it. The only reason I'd even consider coloring my own hair with a brand like L'oreal or whatever is because I'm not working anymore and spending bank on changing my hair color is not in the budget anymore.

Will a drug store brand of haircolor (L'oreal, Garnier, Revlon, etc) cover the Elumen?

The Elumen is pretty faded, purple and I'd want to go back to my natural dark brown color.

These sit outside your hair, like a coat of water-soluable paint, so they come off easier in the shower.Wash-out dye. Some temporary hair dyes are completely gone in 1 shampoo— you can find these at most drugstore, Target, or Wal-Mart, but usually only in limited colors.Temporary dyes may last 7–10 shampoos, and sometimes they can persist for longer if your natural color is very light.Semi-permanent and demi-permanent hair dye usually last up to 28 shampoos. These are the direct dyes like Manic Panic and Splat which simply stain or tint the hair shaft.Permanent hair dye may fade a bit over time, but it will not budge from your hair without significant interference from a stylist using bleach or color removers. Most box hair color kits are permanent, and usually come with a separate “dye” and “developer”— the developer opens up the hair shaft so dye can be deposited inside.Generally speaking, the more your hair has been bleached/dyed/damaged, the more easily it will accept color and release color. But there are a lot of factors that affect how quickly dyes will leave your hair, so it’s best to consult with a colorist or stylist if you’re nervous.

Is it ok to mix 2 different brands of hair dye that are the same color?

What is the science behind hair color?

It's actually pretty simple. (Natural) Hair color is determined by your genetics. In our DNA, we have various sequences that determine different proteins. We also have shorter sequences that determine how often that protein is made. There are two proteins that give hair it's (natural) color. Eumelanin and Pheomelanin. The ratio of Eumelanin and Pheomelanin determines the color. Eumelanin is responsible for the black/brown colors. Eumelanin actually has two subtypes one for brown and one for black. Pheomelanin is responsible for Orange hair. Pheomelanin is not incredibly stable so it turns blond more often then not. Your (natural) hair color is determined by the ratio of black to brown from the Eumelanin and that ratio against Pheomelanin.

Whats a good purple hair dye?

Lauren is right!

I used the Raw brand in Deep Purple and not only does it smell really good, it lasts for awhile and looks amazing!

I got so many compliments when I used it and a bottle of it only costs like 12, or maybe 14 dollars.

Manic Panic is also really good, they have a new formula that lasts longer than the original.
*Also they have photos on the website of how the color might come out, I'll put some links!

The Raw haircolor can be found at Hot Topic and Manic Panic is in a lot of places, but I've seen it at Newbury Comics a lot.

Good luck!
