How to turn on HP Pavilion dv5000 wireless capabilities in Ubuntu?
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my HP Pavilion dv5000 (after taking off XP). Its worked fine aside from the fact that I can't connect to any wireless internet. On the Pavilion there is a black button with the wireless icon on it. Usually when this button is pressed, a blue light above it is turned on, indicating that wireless networking has been enabled. However, since I have installed Ubuntu, there is no response to my pressing the button. Is there anyway to enable wireless without having to partition the disk and reinstall XP?

just saying if the power light is on , on the adapter id have to say that the adaptor jack is damaged it happened to my laptop light was on the ADP but it wouldnt charge the battery if i spun it around the charging light would come on the LT but had to be in certain spot also on another one i have to turn the LT upside down for it to charge WIERD OR WHAT! try to wiggle the ADP pin in the jack while you push the button to turn it on good luck :)

I have HP 655 laptop - AMD version - and I want to reinstall original Ubuntu with Windows XP, but the laptop doesn't boot up the installation DVD and there are almost no options in BIOS to change SATA or something. Please help.
Laptop with Ubuntu Linux shuts off when charger is unplugged. Any help?
I have a Dell Latitude D620 with Ubuntu. I got it recently from someone who was selling it and the laptop itself takes a while to start up when you just turn it on. I have had a toshiba laptop with Windows XP that had battery issues where it would shut off a few minutes after unplugged but this laptop just shuts off. Not in sleep mode. No critical battery message or anything. I would like to know if there's a way to fix it. It has been getting annoying having to plug it in just to use it. Also, I'm not sure how to check battery percentage so help with that would be appreciated. I don't know what to think since my old laptop would at least last a few before shutting off and I don't want to waste money on a battery if it turns out to be something else like a setting.
