Can I Cook A Steak In A George Forman Grill And Hotplate

George foreman or cuisinart grill?

Both R bad.

I have inherited a health grill (like a George Foreman grill)?

Here is a great link and chart about cooking times on these type of grills. Does your have a nonstick finish? You could spray a dab of Pam on it if you like. It will brown the food depending on the length of time and if you have greased the plates you will get more browning.

How hot does a george foreman grill get?

The other week I was helping out my sister-in-law with a BBQ that had to be cooked indoors because of the rain.

The trouble with the George Forman Grill I tried was two fold.
First it has a timer on it which in truth is a safety feature to prevent the grill being left on.
When the timer goes off (there is no alarm) so you may not realize the grill is beginning to cool down....and yet you can not turn the grill on without using the timer.
So if you are cooking more that just a couple of burgers you need to pay it close attention.

Secondly, there is room on the grill plate for say 6 burgers but the grill plate does not get hot enough to cook more than 4 at one time.
In summary this grill just does not get hot enough! as is the case of most electric powered domestic grills.
You would be much better off buying a couple of nonstick griddle shaped frying pans and using them on your stove top.

What can I cook in my dorm without a microwave, hot plate or toaster?

A George Foreman grill souunds like the best thing to get, you can make grilled cheese, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, fish, toast. You can get a small coffee maker to heat water or soups. Also there is the GT Express, its a small version to the George Grill, you can even bake a small cake in it (found @ Walmart).

Frozen meat on the George Foreman?

I am trying out my new George Foreman so I'm not familiar with how to prepare a lot on it. I have some frozen salmon fillets I would like to try. Can I cook frozen fish or frozen chicken or frozen anything for that matter on it? Or should it be thawed? Also if anyone has some grilling tips I would appreciate it.

Is it possible to sear a sous vide steak using a George Foreman grill/hot plate?

Yes, you can sear a steak post sous vide with an electric griddle. It isn’t your best option but it will work. The problem with this device is that it is electrical. This means that it cycles on and off while it is cooking. It will stop heating when it reaches the set temp and resume heating when it falls below that temp. Searing meat requires a constant even heat source, which that grill isn’t. The thin cooking surfaces won’t retain enough heat to sear your meat quickly. This will cause the exterior of the steak to overcook before it picks up the amount of color you are looking for. Preventing the exterior from overcooking is the primary reason for cooking sous vide, so you will be undoing what you hoped to achieve using the sous vide cooker.A heavy pan on the stove top or an oven broiler are your best options at home. If you don’t have access to a stove a handheld propane torch or a camp stove would be better than that grill.

What is your favorite way to sear a steak after cooking sous vide; searzall, broil, cast iron, charcoal grill, others?

I prefer a torch (less smoke, no overcooking, less cleanup) or pan sear (better crust, fat melts more, if done right only a slight overcook which adds nice texture) with either cast iron or another heavy pan.If it’s round or craggy (roasts, etc) I use a torch or broiler to get in the nooks and crannys.I also really like to finish stuff on the grill. I’ll chill the steak in an ice bath for 5 to 10 minutes and crank the grill up (mine is gas) and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes per side.I hope that helps some!Jason LogsdonAmazingFoodMadeEasy.com

Is it better to sear a steak before cooking with sous-vide or after?

After is better. You wind up with a nice sizzling steak, which will stay hot a little longer. This is one of the oddities if sous vide — steaks cooked using convention methods still have a lot of excess heat, which means they don’t get cold too fast. Sous vide food needs to be eaten right away, because it doesn’t ha e that excess heat and it gets cold much faster. Heat on the outside of the food helps with this a little, and gives the whole thing a nice “just cooke feeling. And just so you know, the whole “sear to lock in the moisture” idea is 100% discredited
