Windows 7 and Vista had the same kernel. Why was Windows 7 loved and Vista hated?

Windows Vista failed for 4 chief reasons.Firstly, the high system requirements. It was a significant step up from XP days. Most PCs just weren't equipped to run Windows Vista( even Vista Capable branded PCs struggled to run it). Comparing it to Windows 7, which had the exact same requirements as Vista but came 3 years later. By then the hardware industry had caught up and requirements were not an issue.Secondly, the compatibility issues. Many games and drivers were just incompatible. Businesses wouldn't upgrade to an OS that had poor backwards compatibility. Thirdly, the poor management of features. We all know how annoying User Account Control was in Vista. Vista also shipped with lots of " bloat" features. It tried to provide a built in solution( software) for every conceivable use.Add to it, the annoying number of versions- Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Professional, Ultimate. It confused potential users too much. The mispricing was also an issue. Some editions of Vista on launch were just too expensive, especially the Ultimate one.Windows 7 was basically what Vista should have been in the first place. It took the good features of Vista, like updated UI and improved security model and merged it with the speed of XP.

Upgrading from Windows XP to Vista or windows 7?

You cannot directly upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. I had tried this once and it said that I should boot from DVD and install a new copy of Windows 7.

Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista? Which is better?

Windows 8 is the better of the 3 and if you don't like the touch screen interface it has a option that allows you to change to the windows 7 interface. And if your laptop uses the new AMD APU's,windows 8 supports that cpu architecture so you will get a better performance boost out of that cpu than if you were using a different windows OS , also windows 8 uses less RAM than the other two so your laptop will run faster

Will windows vista be a free upgrade?

i have windows XP already, am i going to be able to upgrade to windows vista for free (since i have XP) or am i going to have to buy the whole new operating system?

Is Windows 7 more reliable than Windows Vista?

I would say that Windows 7 is as reliable as Windows Vista. Now don't jump to some silly conclusions because I said that. Windows Vista doesn't crash often, spin cpu cycles away, etc. Windows Vista is reliable.Sure, when Vista first came out, it was problematic. This was mostly the fault of device drivers that were poorly written. Devs had to re-think the way they wrote drivers and had new APIs to deal with. It was bound to happen. MS couldn't do too much about bad 3rd party code.Every patch that went out improved the stability of Vista. Every new driver improved its stability. By SP1, Vista was a reliable operating system. Those who thought otherwise were were scarred by the initial release. With Windows 7, a bit of the 'bloat' that was Vista was disabled, or tuned better. This is a natural part of development iteration. Customer feedback on Vista improved 7 significantly. A lot of the 'bloat' was actually just resolved by computers being faster.Windows 7 is reliable. I have had no major issues with it and I've been using it since beta.I also didn't have any major issues with Vista and I had been using it since the beta... so YMMV

Can you install Windows XP sounds on Windows Vista or 7?

On Windows 10, Windows 7 and Windows Vista, you don’t “install” the sounds from Windows XP.No, you right click the speaker icon, hover down to Sounds, click on it and replace the default sounds with the ones from Windows XP (like what I did when I installed Windows XP).This still works in Windows 10, by the way!You definitely can extract all the Windows XP sounds or just copy the entire C:\Windows\Media folder, save it to a flash drive and reuse them in any newer version of Windows, even in Windows 10 for example.
