Can I Not Pay For Service

How can I stop paying taxes for services I do not want or need?

I would like to not pay taxes for services that I do not want or need.

Some of the things I don't want to pay for are police services (I dont want their help even in an emergency), welfare, or Medicare.

Can I just debit the amount out of the taxes I pay somehow? What would happen if I just found out how much these things cost and just stopped paying that amount?

MaineCare paying for service dog?

First, you need to make sure you qualify as disabled under the ADA. Talk to your medical doctors and see if they feel your condition is disabling.

MaineCare will not pay for a service dog, however it is possible to apply for a service dog from a non-profit agency where the cost would be minimal to none.

A service dog is a huge responsibility and one that should not be taken lightly, especially since you are still a minor. Each program has its own individual rules and requirements for applicants wishing to receive a service dog. The waiting lists are typically up to a year or more and not every agency or organization places every type of service dog (ie: hearing dog, mobility dog, service dog, etc).

Do we have to pay service charge after GST?

First of all , What is GST ?GST is a single tax on the supply of goods and services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer. Credits of input taxes paid at each stage will be available in the subsequent stage of value addition, which makes GST essentially a tax only on value addition at each stage. The final consumer will thus bear only the GST charged by the last dealer in the supply chain, with set-off benefits at all the previous stages.GST India-Goods and Services Tax in IndiaAlso I would like to clarify the doubt of service charge and service tax .Service Tax -Service tax is the tax levied by the government for services rendered by the restaurant. The tax amount is the same in all states — 14%Also there are 2 important things need to noted -It is charged on 40% of the total bill amount , but to make it easy for folks it is charged 5.6% of the total bill amountSecondly restaurants with AC have the right to charge service taxService Charge - This is charged by the restaurant for the services rendered to you. Since the money goes to the restaurant, the establishments are free to charge what they like, as there are no guidelines provided by the tax authority. So as we can easily make out that service tax is what we pay to the government and that is 5.6% of total bill OR 14% on 40% of total bill .According to Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution,Service charge levied by the restaurants, is the voluntary amount paid by the customers, at their discretion.Service Tax, on the other hand, is payable to the government.http://consumeraffairs.nic.in/wr...Thanks !! Can I refuse to pay the additional service charge that restaurants in India are charging in bills?

let us define some heads.Service chargeService charge is collected by the restaurant for rendering its service to you. It is not a tax and is not levied by the government but purely charged by the restaurants. They are free to charge any amount as there are no guidelines, but it usually varies from 4 to 10 percent. It is corresponding to the tip which you would typically give waiters for a good service, so there is no need to pay a separate tip. However, one has to pay this amount regardless of not being happy with the service if the menu card mentions the charges clearly. But you can always question the charges if the menu card doesn’t mention it.Service TaxService tax is different from the service charges mentioned above - it is a tax levied by the government. This is 12.36 percent and payable on 40 percent of your total bill, which includes food, drinks, service charge and served in an air-conditioned restaurant only. In simple words, service tax would be 4.94 percent (i.e. 12.36 percent of 40 percent) of your total bill. Make sure that the restaurant does not charge you more than 4.96% (of the total bill) as service tax and that it is an AC restaurant.VAT (Value Added Tax)VAT is only applicable on food items that are prepared in the restaurant as they add value before serving it to you. So make sure that you are not charged VAT on packaged food items or water bottles. VAT rates are different for alcoholic beverages and other food items and is applicable only on your final bill. Also, rate of VAT tax differs from 5 percent to 20 percent depending upon the state you are dining in, because it is levied and controlled by each state separately.ExampleLet’s understand this with an example of a restaurant bill for an amount of Rs 1000/-.Items AmountYour Total Food Bill 1000Service charge (assuming 4 percent) 40Sub Total 1040Service Tax to be levied on (40% of subtotal i.e. 1040) 416Service tax @ 12.36% on 416.00 51.41VAT (assumed) @12.5 of subtotal i.e. 1040 130Total amount to be paid (1000+40+51.41+130.00) 1221.41Hope i am very clear with structure so the next time you visit a restaurant, your bill will surely make more sense to you. Keep dining and bon appetit!

Am I obliged to pay the 12,5% service charge in London restaurants?

It rather depends on whether the service charge is “compulsory” or “optional”.If the service charge is not clearly displayed as compulsory on the menu or on signs say in the window then it is optional and you can freely remove it from the bill whether or not you received good service. If the service charge is displayed as compulsory then unless the service is particularly poor you must pay it. For bad service I would suggest talking to the manager and explain that you are unhappy and will not be paying all or part of the service charge and see what they say. Restaurants are required under the consumer rights act to demonstrate reasonable care and skill when providing service and may be in breach of contract if they fail to do so.In the UK all wait persons receive the full minimum wage and the expectations of tipping are not the same as in USA.

Why do people think vets should discount services or allow you to make payments?

I haven't been on here very long, but a lot of you seem to think that vet's should allow people to make payments. Why? You took on the responsbility of an animal- you need to take care of it. If you can't pay for vet services- don't get an animal. Do you go to the grocery store and say "OOPS- can you bill me, I don't have enough money this week." Veterinary offices are buisnesses just like everywhere else- they have bills, overhead, inventory and staff to pay. It is not their responsiblity to take care of your sick pet when you can't afford it. I mean seriously- do I go to your place of work and ask for a payment plan? Do breeders allow you to make payments on the pup you bought? Before you get an animal- make sure you can afford it. You can expect to average around $350- $500 PER PET a year just in vet services- vaccines, heartworm prevention and dental cleanings. So, then you can add in another $200+ for a high quality food. Emergency= $1000+. Can you afford this???

Can customers pay or decline service charges in restaurants?

Let us try to understand it from scratch.‘Service charge’ is different than ‘Service Tax’ which is a tax levied by Central Government of India.Service Charge is an extra charge levied by the restaurants. They print on their menu card or price list, the rate of service charge also. The price of each dish is printed in the menu card and in addition to the price of the dish, service charge at the rate printed in the menu card is levied for serving the dishes on table and such other services.According to the National Restaurant Association, levy of service charge is not illegal according to the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 as the same is printed in the price list and thus informed to the customers.Regarding the announcement made by the Union Consumer Affairs Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, that the service charges are totally voluntary and guidelines are being issued in this regard, the National Restaurant Association has remarked that the guidelines are not law and the restaurants will continue to levy service charges.
