I am 17 years old and is currently living in my boyfriends mothers house. I am not in school. And need medical and finacial help. I am currently in the process of getting working papers to find a job. Plz i need help {plz dont leave stupid comments i jus need advice} thanks.

Can I sue the welfare office?

So the situation is I applied for Medicaid for pregnancy back in September. Now, where I live you are required to get an approval or denial within 10 days. Due to incompetence with the department and the worker it took 3 months and four separate applications. I finally was awarded Medicaid in December after I went down to the office and refused to leave until I spoke with my worker who a.) never returned my calls and b.) claimed to be out of the office EVERY time I went down there.
Well, I have an extremely high risk pregnancy and I thought my insurance was fine until I went to pick up prescriptions my doctor gave me that are supposed to postpone labor if your having issues, come to find out my insurance was cut off 2/28. I called the worker and she said she has no record of my case and that she has no idea why it was cut off. She also stated that I applied through a DIFFERENT county and she wasn't my worker. Well, I called the other county and they looked into it and got ahold of the Insurance company and sent me PROOF I went through this county and was assigned THAT worker. If I end up having my son early because they wont fix my case and I can't get my prescription can I sue for the medical bills that I'll end up having to pay??

Can welfare take inheritance money off me, make me pay it back?

Yes, they will find out. They get reports every month showing this kind of information. The best thing you can do is use the money. You have until the last day of the month after the month you receive the money to spend it (ex.got it today you have until 10/31/2010 to spend it down). Buy a house if you can or car. If not, buy new furniture, clothes and/or pay your rent and utilities up for several months in advance. As long as you have less than $2000 in resources at the end of that month then you are still eligible for food stamps. Send them a copy of the check you receive or other proof of the amount you get and send a "spend down" letter stating everything you spent the money on and state at the bottom how much you have left and sign and date it. Make sure you call and ask if anything else is being counted as a resource on your case (like a car) to make sure your total falls below the $2000.

Food stamps never have to be paid back UNLESS you get them illegally by not giving them all the information for your household.

Can a single guy with no kids get on welfare?

Ignore the rude comments. Yes, your friend is possibly eligible for public assistance. This can be obtained by going in person to your local county Department of Social Services or Department of Adult Services. Find your nearest office in the government pages of your phone book or by calling information. Here are the types of assistance he may receive:

Food Stamps - All adults qualify as long as they have no income or fall below the maximum income requirements. Any amount over $50 will be deducted from the food stamp benefits and they pay a maximum of $200 per month for a homeless adult with no income and no children.Your benefits can be provided in 3 days or less, are pro-rated for the first month, and are often given out the first day.

Health Care: He may qualify for Medi-Cal to receive medical care. Some counties have their own indigent health care program instead of medi-cal.

Cash Aid: As an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD), you are eligible for General Relief only. This provides up to $174 per month in cash aid and is pro-rated for the first month. To qualify, you must meet the income requirements and be free of drug-related convictions since 1997, and have no current outstanding warrants. This is a cash LOAN program. If you are enrolled in a vocational program or working 20 hours per week or more, then you may not have to pay it back directly. Otherwise, you MUST enroll in the CalWorks program. This means you must register with the state job-seeking program, submit applications 5 days per week and keep a record of them, and you must perform community service each month at the minimum wage rate to pay back the money you are given each month. For example, if you get $80 per month and minimum wage for your area is $8, then you will have to work 10 hours at a food bank, public park, etc.

Show up early at the office to apply and expect to be there for at least 4 hours.

Can the welfare people find out your personal informations like if you have bank accounts? If not who can?

Yes they can, they have a program that runs your social security number and they check with the Department of Workforce Development to see if your working. Big Brother is watching us and how do you think that they won't find out - Banks report to the Taxes and with welfare and everything being federal money, they all report and talk to one another via computers.
