Suspenders can be qualified as preppy if you wear them correctly. The outfit is fine if you have a blazer over it. Without a blazer or cardigan, you will look more geeky than preppy.

You can wear suspenders are casual wear as they did in the past.There’s a common misconception that suspenders are more formal than belts because they’re not used as much as they used to. Reason why is because back in the past until late 20th century, trousers were worn so high up on the waist that belts literally could not hold up the trousers. Instead of holding up the trousers at the hipbone, men needed to hold up their trousers from the shoulders to keep them fixed.It wasn’t until Second World War (1939–1945) that mass produced clothing surged and military men popularised the use of the belt over the suspenders. Due to the popularity of mass produced clothing, mens’ trousers never perfectly fit the wearer and thus needed an alternative to hold them up. High waisted trousers were still in style but the suspenders eventually faded away and the belt took over.So technically, the only reason why suspenders became more formal is because belts became more popular as men started to wear their trousers lower and eventually to their hip bone. Generally, Mennonites try to dress as simply as possible, with no adornment. They believe that giving into vanity takes something away from the true message from God.
Is having your suspenders and stockings on show slutty or suggestive?
They are very sexy and classy and show you have confidence. I would consider them slutty if you dress specifically to let them show from under a dress, and I think that would mean a dress that is mid thigh or higher which is suggestive anyway. I think your attitude wearing them would make you appear suggestive or slutty; not the stockings. If you are doing your job like you would any other day or shopping as usual then there is nothing slutty or suggestive. If while wearing them you try to sit so the tops of your stockings show, or show them when you walk then you would be perceived as suggestive or slutty. When I see a woman wearing them I think wow she is so sexy! I'm always trying to figure out "pantyhose or stockings" when I see a well dressed woman. I enjoy the challenge! You can certainly wear them to work or shopping.. and enjoy the attention!
