Can My Previous Employer Look At Personal Yahoo Emails Sent From My Works Pc

How can your employer read your personal emails?

If you are using your work PC to send personal emails then its really easy as its all on the company system, servers etc and can easily be accessed by admins etc. Your PC doesn’t care whether its work or personal, it all goes through company owned gateways, servers etc.If you are logging onto yahoo, gmail etc they may not necessarily be able to read the emails but they can/will know you are accessing those domains; when, how often and for how long.Plenty of screen capture/keylogging programs to record what you are doing.A lot of remote access programs that allow helpdesk to proxy onto your machines to resolve issues can be set up to allow access to your device without you even knowing about it, so everything you do on the screen is mirrored on their screen. If you have been given a firm owned phone, ipad etc its probably got some sort of central management software that can allow them to view anything on it.

Can my employer monitor my internet usage if I use my personal computer and log into their internet?

I bring my personal computer into work everyday because my work laptop is ancient and I like to use Windows 7 to get my work done. I mostly use my personal computer and I check gmail and Facebook every now and then. I found out today that my employer will be monitoring our internet usage.

My question: When I come to work, I log into my employer's internet access. I am not connected to our network at all, meaning I cannot access files or share files. I am only using the internet connection. Can my employer still monitor my use?

How can I get around this? My thought was to purchase a Verizon Wireless USB modem so I don't have to use my companies internet.

But before I do that, I wanted to see if they can monitor my usage just by accessing their internet.

Thanks much!!

FYI: I am not online all the time, but I have a lot of downtime at work!

Can my employer see what I write in Yahoo mail?

It is very likely that your employes are monitoring your computer usage at work. 77.7% of major employes monitor their employees' internet, phone, computer and work activities. The rules for workplace monitoring favor employers. There are no federal laws that regulate monitoring employees. Only two states, Delaware and Connecticut, have laws that require employers to notify employees if the company monitors them. This is due to the fact that the computers in the office are supplied for the primary benefit of the company... not the staff person's personal use.

Companies maintain that by utilizing web based mail applications such as Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail, the employee is putting the business in much greater risk of viruses and worms entering the network.

An American Management Association survey, which involved 526 U.S. companies, states that about 25 percent of employers have fired workers for misusing the Internet; another 25 percent have terminated employees for inappropriate use; and 6 percent have fired employees for misusing office telephones.

And it is very cost effective, at around $10 per employee per year for larger companies. And keeping your passwords safe, clearing your cache and your cookies, and not having your computer remember any passwords will not stop your employer from being able to see what you are up to.

Computer monitoring may include keystoke logging, software monitoring, or applications to view what you see on your monitor. Sniffers placed on networks can also pinpoint employees who are using the network bandwidth by activities such as downloading music or listening to web based radio stations.

My recommendation if you want to be able to check your personal mail from the workplace and protect both your job and your privacy is to have a web enabled mobile device that you own to do this on. If you intend to do this infrequently, then most phones with web access will work for brief usage. If you will be doing this on a frequent basis, then you're better to go with a much faster private method, such as a Treo web enabled device.

Can you track the physical location from which an email was sent to you?

There are basically two steps involved in the process of tracking an email: find the IP address in the email header section and then look up the location of the IP address. It’s worth noting that you usually won’t be able to get the exact location of the actual person who sent the email. For example, if someone in Germany sends you an email using Gmail, the last IP address in the header section will probably be the public IP address assigned to that user from the ISP, which will give you the location of the user ranging from within a mile all the way to the city or region level. The reason for the wide range is that the IP address that an ISP assigns to a particular user is normally dynamic. This means that the IP address they had when the email was sent may now be assigned to a different user in the region. This is the main reason why you might get a wide geographic area when looking up the location of the IP address. However, depending on what device people are using to send emails when using Gmail or another online email service, the last IP address might just be the IP address of Google or Yahoo or Hotmail servers, so keep that in mind too.Another scenario where you might not get any useful info is if the email was sent from a server on a hosting company data center. For example, whenever I get an email from Boxee, the originating IP address is from SoftLayer, which is a big server hosting company. That’s because the email was probably created and sent from the server itself.Find the IP Address for an Email in GMail, Yahoo Mail, and OutlookLet’s go ahead and take a look at how you would find the IP address in the email header for Google, Yahoo and Outlook since those are the most popular email clients. If you’re using a different email client, just Google how to view email header info. You can do this using one of these sites:Email Lookup at VerisEmail Search, Reverse Email Lookup, Find IP Address by EmailJust enter the email address in the empty box and follow the steps.Have a nice day

Can my boss read my private (yahoo) email?

Two part question:
CAN he read your email, myYahoo,MySpace etc?
and
SHOULD he read your email, myYahoo,MySpace etc?

The first part is easy enough to answer. There are several programs that allow I.T. Managers to see where you're going during work hours. They can see what the address is and how much time you spent there. There are also programs that will allow the IT guys to mirror your screen (see everything that's happening on your screen). With the address in hand, they can go visit your MySpace etc.. as if they were anybody else on the planet. Ditto for LiveJournal, Facebook etc... If you're putting it out there, it's free and open. Don't put anything out there that you don't want read..period!
As for Yahoo email....they shouldn't have access unless you give them your password, which is why places like Yahoo, Hotmail and GMail are often blocked.

SHOULD they? The better question would be, should YOU?
They're paying your salary, so they can legally access everything you do at work..and use it against you...especially if you're slamming the company behind their back. It's a firing offense. :P

Solution? Don't give them the opportunity. Surf the web at home. Check email at home. Keep your privacy AND your job.

A number of proxy sites have been blocked as well, but if you know of any good ones, please list! Are there any other options other than proxy sites?
