Can Someone Recommend Me Some Good Turntable/record Player Brands

Why is my record turntable playing records too fast?

Some good answers here, but there is a possibility that has not yet been mentioned. If it is a multi-speed turntable (33/45), with the speed controlled by a knob or lever, then the speed should change when you move the lever. If there is no change to the speed, then the belt has been incorrectly fitted. If you remove the platter, you will see that the lever operates a hook shaped device; it moves up and down as the lever is moved. The belt must pass between the forks of the hook shaped device, and around the small stepped pulley adjacent to it. Arrange the belt so it goes between the forks and around the small pulley before refitting the platter, then fit the loose end of the belt around the large pulley on the platter. The method of doing this varies; some turntables have a two-piece platter so that the belt can be positioned before the outer platter ring is fitted, others have holes through the platter to fit you finger through in order to fit the belt.Hope this helps!

What's a good and cheap record player/turntable?

The Audio Technica direct-drive is about the least expensive decent turntable out there right now. The speed stability and tonearm are a cut above anything you can buy for less. The cartridge comes with an elliptical stylus for better sound than you can get out of the cheapo cartridge that comes on most other tables at this price-point. The stock cartridge tracks a little heavy. But, the stylus is high quality and the tonearm applies the proper anti-skate. This won't damage records like a cheapo record player. The table is worthy of a cartridge upgrade someday, or there is a replacement stylus available that fits the stock cartridge and tracks a little lighter.

This is just a turntable though, not a record player. You'll need a receiver and speakers or powered speakers to play it through. You could also play it through any shelf system or boom box that has an "aux" input.

What's the difference between a turntable and record player?

A 'turntable' is merely something that spins (also take into account the conversion of audio into digital signals) - and using your context it spins vinyl that has audio pressed into it. Now in order to listen to that audio at a "decent" level the turntable needs to be plugged into an amplifier - and the amplifier needs to be plugged into one or more working speakers. On the other hand, a 'record player' means the turntable, amplifier and speakers are all one combo unit. So yes, you'll be needing an amp as well as speakers if you only have a turntable. As for buying one of these, I'd suggest you to go through www.bajaao.com because according to me, it's the best website in India to shop for musical instruments, equipments and accessories. Better than searching in random shops with too less options to choose from. Also if possible, try to increase your budget a little as these things aren't that cheap anymore.P.S. - If you haven't bought any stuff from that website before then trust me when I say that they are legit with quality stuff. I myself along with many of my friends have bought stuff from them without regretting and it's probably the most famous website in India regarding these things. So go ahead without any fear. Thanks for the A2A

What is a good first-time record player choice that offers "bang for the bucks"?

To echo what Brian Manning posted earlier for this question: do not buy a Crosley! They are cheap for a reason. They may be OK for your grandmother who finds the quaint design nostalgic and the sound quality dandy, but not for anyone who wants to keep playing their vinyl collection long term with any sense of fidelity. (And whatever you do, don't go to http://reddit.com/r/vinyl and post about your Crosley -- you'll get crucified!).I like the list Brian posted, but one brand missing is MCS, which was a line of audio-equipment JC Penny sold back in the day. They are actually re-branded Technics-designed equipment. If the $400+ mark is too high for you, I strongly recommend setting up eBay and Craigslist alerts for when turntable brands you want get posted. I bought a lightly-used Technics SL-3200 with Ortofon cartridge and stylus for $200 shipped.

Good Portable Record Players??? Are Goodmans Portable Record Player Good?

So for christmas i really want a record player, and i was recently looking at the Crosley turntables, and after seeigng that they got a 4.5 rating me and my dad looked at a brand of record player called 'Goodmans'. I've already bought a black Goodmans portable record player now, and 3 vinyl to go with it. And after watching some videos i have began to wonder if i have made a mistake, Crosleys are supposed to be really bad so i was wondering if Goodmans are also bad? Will a Goodmans turntable ruin my records??? Thanks x

Can I use any Needle replacement on a Turntable Vinyl Player?

Hi I'm a little a new to the world of turntables/Vinyl. I know about 78rpm,45rpm and 33rpm discs, and how to handle them take care of them..blah blah. But I just had one question and that's about the needle. For example I got a Free Onkyo CP-1046F turntable and was told it needs a new cartridge or needle. What does it mean to need a new needle? What does it mean to need a New cartridge? does any brand cartridge/needle work with any model? I'm seeing on eBay some cartridges for $20, some $60 and some as much as $700! Someone please educate me haha!

What is a good vinyl record player on the market for $50-$250?

This review would suggest the Audio-Technica LP120-USB has a great set of features for under $250, and the side-by-side comparison helps you see the details:Vinyl Converter Turntable Review 2014 | Best USB Turntables | Convert Vinyl Records to DigitalĀ  - TopTenREVIEWS

Is the crosley portable turntable good?

Before investing in your first turntable, read this article about what to look for:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Zyv9ev6VqhS...

The Crosley brand is not considered high quality. They make cool LOOKING reproduction audio equipment with fairly cheap components, hence the good prices on them. I was also interested in buying one of their turntables recently and read numerous positive and negative reviews on the particular model. All the negative reviews I'd read were pretty consistent, usually involving various failures shortly after the warranty period was up. I recall reading about easily blown speakers (so they must use speakers than cannot handle the power of the amplifier they use which is common among cheap stereos) and on the combo units, CD players that just stopped working or would skip a lot.

Also with the Crosley line, I don't think any of them do USB connections so you can't digitize your records to your iTunes for example. This is a common feature of new quality turntables that are about the same price as Crosley's sell for.

So find the actual model you're interested in and look at reviews for it, then decide if you're comfortable with what is said or not. Try to find reviews on a site that doesn't actually sell the model because reviews on sites that sell it are likely to be biased in the positive as they appear to be at Urban Outfitters. Which brings me to another point.

Urban Outfitters is a hipster shop that sells all order of "cool stuff" but this is not a proper electronics store. The staff aren't going to be capable of telling you what the signal to noise ratio of these turntables is or even where to buy a nicer stylus for them.

So I'd suggest reading reviews, buying from an actual electronics store or perhaps a DJ supply or professional music store and finally, if you want a FUNCTIONAL turntable and care about sound quality, don't buy a Crosley because you're mostly paying for the cosmetics, not the quality of the actual record player.

Here's an article that recommends specific models of quality functional turntables:

Enjoy! Vinyl is awesome!
