VRO files come from DVDs. Use a transcoder like Handbrake from www.handbrake.fr There are lots of other transcoders out there. After the transcoding is complete, pull the converted file into Vegas.

As Kishore Sawant answered a lot depends on what you hope to achieve.I usually divide film-making into 3 categories:1>Films without any effects and no real major soundtracks:For this basic video editors like windows movie maker,power director and other home video editing software's (The Best Home Video-Editing Software) are more than sufficient.If your a beginner in film making this is always the place to start.2>Professionally made films w/o CG and moderately complex sound track:Adobe Premiere Pro is an industry standard tool that allows for supreme control over video and audio tracks.One can master audio tracks within Premiere as well.3>Professionally made films with CG and Intense sound tracks:A combination of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.Adobe after effects is the industry standard tool for creating and compositing effects on live footage as well as for graphic designing. Premiere and After Effects seamlessly integrate to provide an extremely comfortable work-flow allowing for speedy production of professional level content.This can further be combined with any 3D softwares you use.(After Effects and Cinema 4D work realy well together, infact the latest version of After Effects i.e. After Effects CC comes with Cinema 4D lite)I personally don't recommend Sony Vegas Pro as I don't find it as powerful and feature rich as After Effects.As a user of both Premiere and After Effects for the last 6 years I can definitely vouch for them and would recommend you start learning how to use them as soon as you can.After effects however does have a pretty steep learning curve.but the possibilities granted by it are infinite.
