How much did the Quora team learn from Yahoo Answers? How much insight did they gain and utilize?

Being a Quora lover, it would be immoral for me to degrade Quora. But chucking all odds, the reality is, the ONLY THING Quora learnt from Yahoo Answers was the IDEA itself!Yahoo Answers was started as a simple Question-Answering platform. Users were really limited and the public used it more often to check for quick answers (mainly linked through Google)The Quora founders, Adam D'Angelo and Charlie Cheever, also ex-Facebook employees took up the idea of Q&A and modified it so beautifully and artistically that it has transformed to a highly productive platform. No one would have ever imagined that reading & writing would become so interesting. All praise to Quora!Few comparisons between Yahoo Answers & Quora:In Yahoo, users tend to hide their identities whereas in Quora, users are mostly expected to present themselves.Yahoo's questions are open for a limited time whereas Quora's questions can be answered long after they are posted.Yahoo uses a casual approach whereas Quora uses a Wikipedia like approach i.e a clear explanation.Similar to the previous point, Yahoo users prefer to answer within 200 words whereas Quorans literally write novels (pun intended) for simple questionsYahoo just believes in Questioning & Answering whereas Quora additionally has options of followers, following etc.Yahoo has become most likely obsolete whereas Quora is exploding with growthYahoo’s USER INTERFACE is a big NO NO. Quora has an attractive UI with perfect blend of creative edits whereas Yahoo’s UI is quite dull.Users of Quora are far more addicted than their counterparts, Yahoo users. Finally, Quora is building a community where as Yahoo focused on quick resolution of user's questions.Yahoo invented the idea whereas Quora innovated that idea!

Can you get addicted to weed?

Of course you can be addicted to weed.
The ones that told you that you can't get addicted are either themselves addicted to it or just plain stupid.

Addiction can happen to many things, it's a formation of habit, while the word addiction is pretty "scary", it actually happens to many people where they can't control the intake of certain items.
Some people are addicted to chocolate which are obviously much more harmless than addiction to cigarettes or weed.

Weed, especially nowadays, according to the newest research from New Zealand, marijuana is heavily linked to schizophrenia and might be the prime cause of psychosis in contrary to the past beliefs that schizophrenia patients were trying to self-medicate themselves by smoking marijuana/canabis (since marijuana smokings are found in nearly all modern schizophrenia cases)
Furthermore, a study from GBR revealed that 1 in 4 canabis user has a 10 fold increase in developing mental illness.

My suggestion, if your boyfriend is a heavy canabis smoker and really can't stop, then make him chose between you or the canabis, and if he chose the canabis then I suggest you dump him because marijuana also linked to making someone apathetic and I can't imagine a woman willing to subject themself to a relationship where the partner can't care less about people around him.

Those studies of course has been refuted....mostly by people who smoke marijuana, and between researchers and drug addicts, I tend to believe researchers more (especially the ones coming from universities since they're most likely to be objective and not under influence of certain industry)
Since I've seen first hand marijuana smokers who just want to sit around watch TV all day or contend with entry level job their entire life and do the job as quick as possible and few days as possible just so they can go home play poker or use computer while smoking canabis, I'd rather throw my weight to the researchers than the militant canabis users trying to justify their habits.

All those being said, if he used the canabis once every two weeks or something like that, then the effect obviously won't be that bad (since I also knew a fully functional member of society that smoke canabis very occasionally)

Can you get addicted to Yahoo answers? I think I am!?

Yes, some people are on here 24 hours everyday and do not get any sleep since they now have insomnia and thet's the truth!
You'll get an awful withdrawal too!

Why are there so many teenagers on Yahoo Answers?

It's also full of absolutely idiotic, puerile and frequently incorrect answers, even those chosen as 'best', from those same teenagers!  I'd rather they stayed in one place where their comments can be avoided, than have them invade Quora!

What are you addicted to?

my mobile phone

Is weed addictive.............?

It is psychologically addictive that is about it.
As in people take it more often due to them feeling better or hiding from the world.
It affects your perception so as a result long term use can encourage mental illness short term paranoia and depression.

Why are some people unpleasant on Yahoo Answers?

They are bored, and they think that being nasty at other users is a game. They are frustrated and they want to vent out their rage, and Yahoo Answers’ poor moderation becomes a place for them to complain about society’s problems. As a result, sometimes they would have no regard for proper spelling or grammar. They have become so obsessed with gaining points and posting more content, that they would even behave like jerks just to have higher scores, as though they are addicted to Yahoo Answers. They are extremists who would otherwise be kicked out of other websites for their poor behaviour.

Why is Quora more popular than Yahoo Answers? What elements make it the more popular Q&A site?

A couple of years back, early 2015 I guess, I wanted to know about the basics of big data and its importance in industry.I googled “What is Big data”The first link popped up was Wikipedia - I opened in a new tab and set it aside. The second link was from Yahoo answers. I opened and was looking for some useful information. There were answers like:I was confused, irritated and most of the answers didn’t answer the question. The next link which popped was from Quora.I could find answers like this:Answer was by Balaji Viswanathan (பாலாஜி விஸ்வநாதன்) sir. That is the moment I followed him and read his other answers too! And that was the moment i decided not to refer yahoo answers for anything in future.Unlike Yahoo answers, Why was the answer better? It summed up all the information - technical explanation with real life examplesPictures made it easier for me to connect with answerThe credential “Ran a Big data company” made me believe the answer is from someone trustworthy.Upvotes and comments of appreciation from people in related field made me feel secured about the answerComments were healthy and was debating its future application. So, with no further discussions, Quora is always better than Yahoo answers.
