Can You Lie About Your Age In A Contest

Is it illegal to lie about your age in a Contest?

I entered a contest at a sporting event thinking I would never win. . . but then I did win. However, the contest requires you be at least 21 or older and I am only 19. When they called me to tell me I won I lied about my age (not about to give up this opportunity considering it is a BIG freaking prize) and now I'm worried if I get caught in this lie if there are greater consequinces then just getting disqualified?

Is it illegal for me to lie about my age to win this contest?

The online clothing store that I LOVE is doing a giveaway on Instagram, which is an app for smart phones that is kind of like Facebook, but you only share photos. You have to take a photo with the store name and tag it so the company can see it. The only problem is that you have to be 18 or older, and I am 16. I was planning on making a new account for the contest anyway, and I don't think you have to show your age or even your name. Would it be okay if I lied and said I was 18 just for this contest? I honestly think I have a shot at winning. Please help? Thanks!

Will you get in trouble if you lie about your age in some sort of contest?

Somebody I know wants to enter a contest in which you can get to go see one direction at the Madison Square Garden. You have to be 13 or over to enter. The concert is in December. She is 12, but will be 13 in September. Will she get in trouble if she enters?

I am not 18 but I won a contest..?

What you want to do is fraud. Usually, what happens is that if the prize is of any significance, then the judging company will want a government ID. If you can't prove that you meet the requirements, then you forfeit the prize.

Sending your parents or someone else to claim the prize doesn't work. The judging company will only release the prize to YOU, not to your agent (which would be your parents).

Edit: If you claim a prize under false pretenses, it's fraud, as I said. If they find out later, yes, they CAN charge you for fraud. You'd have to give the prize back, or its cash equivalent at the time of winning, and you'd also be liable for other damages and fines and fees. You PROBABLY wouldn't be imprisoned if it wasn't a large prize. Probably.

Should I lie about my age to get a job?

You are either too young to feel you can be considered for a position or too old to feel you can be considered - hence the age question. As the others have said - do not lie about your age if directly asked (although I believe in the US asking an applicants age can result in age discrimination issues).HOWEVER…. you don’t need to volunteer your age or put age identifiers in your resume. For example, you don’t need to list all 30 years of your experience or the year you graduated college. You only need to list applicable experience from the past 10–15 years. If you are concerned about being too old, you can take steps to appear younger as well - color your hair, be clean shaven, update your wardrobe, exercise, face lift, etc…If you are concerned about being too young, you can dress more formally for the interview, add as much experience to your resume as possible (part time jobs, internships, etc… - but don’t lie!), grow a beard (can add 10 years to your perceived age).

Is it okay to lie about you age on sweepstakes?

No, you can't lie about your age. It's called "cheating" and if you're caught, the sponsor doesn't have to give you the prize.

There are sweepstakes out there that you can enter. Go-Gurt, Kraft, J-14, Nickelodeon and KidzWorld run kids contests all the time.

Is it bad to lie about your age online?

It’s bad to lie, period. If you lie about your age online, what else do you lie about? You don’t lie in “real life,” or do you?Remember what happened to Pinocchio. Maybe that image in your mind will stop you in your tracks.Don’t do it. It’s a slippery slope, it will become easier each time, and then who will you be? Not proud of yourself. Trying to cover up or explain, and then you may forget, embarrassing yourself. It keeps getting worse.Politicians are famous for lying, and for denials to protect their butts. Until they’re caught. It’s ugly.Your moral standards and credibility are part of what kind of person you are. If you’re young, build on it. You can respect yourself yourself, and others will respect you in turn. A good foundation for all you do in life.“Honesty isn’t the best policy, it’s the only policy,” said my grandfather.

Why do the girls lie about their age?

Our society worships youth and beauty. This is true for both sexes, but much more for women. In countless Hollywood movies, male stars are considered “distinguished” as they age, and are paired romantically with women young enough to be their daughters or even granddaughters. But women past the age of about 40 begin to be treated like they don’t exist. Especially for women who have always been valued primarily for their looks, it is not too surprising that they might try to hide their real age.Lately, especially on television, older women have become much more prominent — no doubt because advertisers are at long last realizing how great the purchasing power of women is. Ideally, as this trend advances, and as women become more visible in other arenas, such as governance and business, it will become less important how old (or young) they are. That’s the dream, anyway.
