Can You Sell Tobacco Products To Someone Under 18 If You Aren

In the States where the age of possession of tobacco is 18 but 21 to buy, would it work for an 18-year-old to ask the cashier to buy them cigarettes?

Actually, the age to buy cigarettes is 18, and there is no age of possession in most states. But to answer your question, no it won't work, because it's against the cashiers terms of service when working. They are strictly not allowed to buy for anyone, and won't sell you anything without you showing a proper ID.Some cigar stores will limit the age to 21, but that's typically up to the owner.

When did it become illegal in the UK to sell alcohol to under 18, the same with tobacco?

I was raised in a public house, so feel well qualified to answer this. The Intoxicating Liquor (Sale to Persons under Eighteen) Act (1923) was the first to make the age of purchase of alcohol 18 (previous 19the century laws had previously set it at 16). This was incorporated into later acts, including the 2003 Licensing Act. It is, not illegal however for a 16 or 17 year old to have beer, wine or cider bought for them on licensed premises as long as they are having a sit down meal. It is also not illegal to give alcohol to a child aged 5 - 15 at home or other private property. (In my case, that meant it was illegal for me to have a pint downstairs in the bar, but perfectly legal for me to do so upstairs in the living quarters of the pub. (Not that it stopped me.) It’s also legal for a under 18 to serve alcohol behind the bar or at a supermarket etc., as long as it is supervised by a staff member over 18 (which I did many times with blanket permission from my Mum & Nan.)The minimum age for smoking in public and the buying of tobacco products was raised in the UK from 16 to 18 on 1 October 2007. Not sure what the sales of tobacco etc was to 16 & 17 years n the week before was though. (Smoking is banned in all public buildings that are enclosed ie 4 walls and a roof, and some public areas such as hospital grounds, railway stations with open platforms, parks and play areas, but a person under 18 would be also breaking the law by smoking while walking down a road. It is legal for anyone under 18 to sell tobacco products as long as the premises has a tobacco licence and there is a supervising member of staff present who is over 18.

Can a minor have tobacco in his luggage when traveling to the USA?

Hi,
I am about to travel to the States to visit a few relatives there and my parents wanted to send a special brand of tobacco and maybe a few cigars with me as a gift for my uncle but I am a minor so we wanted to know would I get into trouble if I'd arrive with a few tobacco products under the allowed limit of course in my luggage (not hand baggage) to USA?

Can you buy tobacco products on US military bases?

yes you can.

personally (and this is if it were up to me), i would ban not only the sale of it on military bases, i would ban the SMOKING OF and use of CHEW on military bases, even if you are in your own car. if you are on base, or anything attached to the base, the roads, the buildings (and you would be driving on the roads belonging to the base) - anywhere within the fence, it would be banned. Military or civilian - doesn't matter. if you are on base, it is a no-go. if you are OFF base (even at home) and smoke, it can be career ending.

Now why would i be a hard as.$ on the matter? a handful of reasons:

(1) you stink when you smoke. i don't care about your gum or breathmints. it's in your hair, your clothes, YOU SMELL

(2) off of (1) above, it is about professional image. Nothing makes you look like a BUM in uniform faster than a cigarette, pipe, wahtever, hanging off your lip. professional appearance goes out the window.

(3) allowing it to be sold on base gives the image that the military ENDORSES the use of tobacco products. I think it is hypocritical. they know it is not healthy for you, they know it leads to increased down time because of trips to a clininc and smoking related ilnesses, but they sell what harms you?

(4) non-somkers typically work more hours, has fewer down days or down time, healthier, don't go to the clinic as often, have fewer long term related illnesses. this saves precious $$$ for the service.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

why WON'T it happen? $$$$. smokes are HUGE profit makers for the BX/PX, etc on base. the profits help pay for the cost of offsetting other programs. plus, when you havea 'cough', you buy cough medicine, and the BX/PX gets a cut of that.

it's not about 'public health' - it's all about the money. almost everything in life is

Do police sometimes send in under-aged people to stores to check if the stores are IDing?

When I was 19 my friends and I would take turn to hang out in front of the liquor store in our neighborhood and ask people who were going in if they would buy six pack for me. Most people would say no, but eventually someone would. (In our defense, this was in Illinois, where you had to 21 to buy beer; meanwhile you could buy beer in Wisconsin at 18. Presumably Wisconsin understood that if the government expects an 18 year to die for their country, they ought to be able to have a beer.) One night it was my turn. After several people declined, a middle aged guy emerged from a car. When I asked him to buy me a six pack, he sized me (I was fairly clean cut at the time) and then pulled out a Chicago Police badge. My knees went weak and my heart was pounding. This was it … I’m getting arrested. Instead, he said, “It’ll cost you five bucks … plus the cost of the beer. (That was a lot in 1970; I think that the beer cost less than $1.50.).” I handed him the money without hesitation and he disappeared into the store. While I waited for him I looked at his car. Sure enough, it was an unmarked police car. He came out pretty quickly, handed me the beer, and said, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” and left with my change. So in 1970, at least some on the police force were not wasting their time worrying about guys drinking beer who were old enough to be in the army.Meanwhile, from previous experience, the guy in the store would take one look at you as you walked in, point at the door and say, “Get outta here.”

Can you buy nicotine free e-cigarettes online if you're under 18?

I'm 17 and want to start "smoking" e-cigarettes (rest assured, I have absolutely no interest of ever starting regular cigarettes). However, i'm not of the legal age to purchase them yet and there's no place that sells them around me anyway so ordering online is my only option in the first place. Can I still order an e-cig (from the Blu e-cigarette company specifically) online if i'm 17? From what I've heard, no company that sells e-cigs really requires you to have proof of age or not an official ID proof anyway so it's easy to get away with ordering them online even though you must provide an ID if you purchase them in stores. Don't give me answers like "Why would you want to start doing that?" or anything. I don't tell you how you should run your life so please just answer the question.

Could I get fired if I accidentally sell cigarettes to a minor?

I just recently turned 18. I work in a drug store and today they were sending in minors to test the cashier (which happened to be ME today) to see if the cashier would check for an I.D. I didn't find out until the end of the day. And now I'm thinking, DID I SELL ANY CIGARETTES to a minor??? IF I did when will I find out? Am I most likely to get fired? I don't know if I did for sure, but I might have. Will the store get fined???

What would happen if a student was caught selling cigarettes in school?

The school will have their own rules, but I would assume they would be expelled. The incident would also end up in their record and they would have a very hard time being accepted to a college.

The state might issue a citation for suppling cigarettes to a minor. I'll link an example:

"If a clerk sells to the youth, the clerk is cited and will be required to pay a $200 fine for 'selling or furnishing tobacco products to a minor.'"

Can Dick's Sporting Goods stores legally violate a person's civil right to purchase a firearm based solely on their age? Can Dick's as easily violate a person's civil rights based on gender, race, ethnicity, creed or sexual orientation?

Can Dick's Sporting Goods stores legally violate a person's civil right to purchase a firearm based solely on their age? Can Dick's as easily violate a person's civil rights based on gender, race, ethnicity, creed or sexual orientation?I don’t see age in your list of civil rights. So, yes, Dick’s and Walmart can raise the age of gun and ammo purchases if they wish - At least until the law is changed, or the Constitution is changed, or the Supreme Court decides that this is a violation of someone’s constitutional rights. There is also nothing in the Constitution that guarantees a 17 year old’s right to purchase a weapon any more or less than a 27 year old person’s right to purchase a weapon. 18 is an arbitrary age that laws have given for purchasing many guns. All of those laws currently make that a minimum age. None, that I am aware of, make 18 an absolute age. None restrict a private business from deciding that they aren’t going to sell something to you even if you meet the minimum age.As a business owner, I don’t have to sell you my widget if I don’t want to sell you my widget. As long as I am not discriminating based on your gender, race, ethnicity, creed or sexual orientation, I can tell you to get lost. The second amendment isn’t absolute any more than the first amendment or any other amendment is absolute. There can be and are restrictions. Currently, there is no law that says there cannot be an age limit on purchases of guns.
