Car Battery/overheat Issues. Plz Help D

The Steering wheel is hard to turn, car overheating and the battery light is on... what's the problem?

I have a 98 chevrolet cavalier. not sure which engine....

In a middle of a turn then suddenly the car shook and it was hard to turn left or right and the car battery came on, it felt like i was in park shift.

I was less then half a mile anyway from home (thx God) so i decided to chance it to the house.
The tires did turn but I had to put some muscle into it. when i turn off the car i heard strang noise coming from the hood. It was the coolent boiling up inside.

Waited over night hoping the problem would go away but when i turn on the car,
it was still hard to turn and the battery light come on the moment i tried.

Can explain the problem
and if possible a price range?

PLEASE HELP CAR OVERHEATING GOLF MK4!?

NEXT THING I REALIZED IS THAT THE TEMPERATURE IS ON MAX AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND COMPUTER SAID STOP CHECK COOLING FLUID/WATER. WHEN I CAREFULLY OPENED IT FIRST STEAMED UP AND FILLED UP WITH WATER AND THAN WAS EMPTY AFTER 5 MINUTES COOLING. I PUT 5 LITRES OF WATER IN IT. AND DROVE OK, BUT TODAY THE SAME AGAIN. I REALIZED THAT THE FANS DON'T COME ON AND I THINK THE RADIATER IS GONE, BUT I AM NOT A MECHANIC! PLEASE HELP MANY THANKS.

Can a bad battery cause car to overheat?

Try a little trouble shooting here!
1. Turn your air conditioning on. If your fan turns on, good.
2. Next, let the car idle to the point where the fan normally comes on on its own. If it doesn't come on, then we have it narrowed down to EITHER the temperature sending unit or the fan switch. The cars temperature system is controlled by two elements. 1 is the temperature sending unit which not only sends the signal for your actual temp. guage on your guage cluster but also sends a signal to your fan switch to turn on. A bad fan switch can be the culprit but I wouldn't bet on that if your fan comes on with the A/C....although on some cars they can be completely different.
Check your fuse as well. You may have a blown fuse if you are connecting the battery directly to that...you have to be careful there.

Also, keep in mind that a thermostat that works this time might not work next time, and so on and so forth. For the $3 part it is worth replacing. To test a thermostat not in the car, drop it in a pot on the stove. Fill the pot with water and turn it on. Since most thermostats operate around the 160-195 temp range, you will see it "open" before the water begins to boil. If it doesn't move by the time the water boils, the therm is bad.

With the car running, feel your upper radiator hose after the car warms to normal operating temperature. If the upper hose is hot, it means the thermostat is working properly. If it is cold, it means that the hot water is not passing the thermostat (stuck closed) and therefore your car will overheat even though the information is being sent to your fan. Make sene? I hope so. Get yourself a good repair manual before asking the yahoos on here. Do some trouble shooting and you should come out okay. The cooling systems on cars are really quite basic.
Radiator, upper and lower hoses, coolant, thermostat, temperature sending unit, fan switch. Not much else can go wrong with them.

If a car gets overheated, does it's battery die?

Your car did not get overheated. If it did, yo'd have coolant all over the place and had warning lights onthe dash and a very expensive repair bill to look at.

Most likely, the battery has failed. Battery's actually fail more often when it is hot than when it is cold. Pull the battery out, get it checked and if it's bad, or if it's more than 4 years old, repalce it.

Why do my jumper cables spark and overheat?

I am trying to jump my dead battery but cables will not stop sparking. Both engines are off first i attach the positive to the dead battery and then the negative. Next I attach the red to the good battery and then I tried connecting the negative to the frame and it started sparking and then started overheating cables and smoke started to come out. I also tried connecting it to the negative terminal on the battery and the same thing happened. What could it be? Need help ASAP. PLEASE!!

Will driving a car with no alternator belt cause it to overheat ('97 plymouth neon)?

Good question.
Here are my recommendations.
1. Don't let your uncle near your care if he suggested driving it 25 miles to his house to install an alternator belt. He should know that the belt that drives the alternator also drives the water pump. Long before you travel 25 miles the engine will overheat so badly that there will be serious engine damage.
2. A fully charged battery in good condition will move the car 25 miles if you minimize stops and turn off all accessories (lights, heater, radio, etc.
3. Jump start don't filly charge the battery.
4. Any mechanic worth his ratchet wrench can install a alternator belt in less than 30 minutes. The half hour labor change will certainly cost less than a 25 mile towing charge. However, I wonder what snapped the belt to begin with. You may have a seized water pump, a bad alternator bearing or a bad idler pulley bearing. Any of those will cost a bit more to replace.
Automobiles must be maintained to keep running. Your 97 has been running a long time and should have been receiving regular maintenance that includes inspecting the belts.
5. When a red light in you instrument illuminates, it means STOP, or at least drive directly to the nearest service facility. Failure to do so will most certainly create bigger problems.
If you drove your Neon long after the battery lamp lit, you probably caused overheating that could warp a cylinder head. The cost of replacing that is more than your Neon.

Overheating Amps?

to the first poster, my amp is bridged giving a total of 400 watts, and my old class D mono amp was giving them 300 and still facing the same problem. To the second poster, my subs are ran in 4ohm impedance (the usual for bridged circuits) so low impedance isnt the problem, and in regards to the ventilation, i have one or more of my seats in the back folded down and its currently summer so my AC is cranked.... my old system had the amp in the back of the box facing towards the front with no problems, and this setup is the exact same. i thought with the first amp is was an underpowering problem, but the new rockford amp does the same, im thinking maybe its a wiring problem? i use 4G wiring, a pioneer 4800 4volt preout cd player and the gain on the amp at roughly 3/4s. any more possible solutions?

Question about D batteries and amps and alternatives?

You're paying way too much for batteries.

Buy regular D Cells. They don't even need to be alkaline. Get what's cheapest. A store brand would be fine.

Or buy some rechargable D cells.
