Carb Issue On 150cc Scooter.

150cc Scooter Dies if I don't give it gas?

The pilot jet in the carburetor has been slowly clogging with varnish from evaporated gas and is now completely plugged.

Remove the bottom float bowl from the carb, unscrew the pilot jet (the smaller of the two in there) and clean it with carb cleaner spray and a piece of copper strand stolen from a speaker wire, then blow it out with air or your mouth... the goal is to be able to see a nice, round shaft of light coming through the center passage in the jet.

You'll see a huge change looking through before and after cleaning, and your bike will run like new again.

Scooter problems?

Dear Mr. Burkeada,

You have a job on your hands.
1. Try to get a service manual for the scooter. That is your road map.
2. If fuel and spark are present, then check the plug for the correct setting.
3. Most likely it's a really clogged carburetor which may require cleaning or rebuilding. If your not getting a pop pop out of it, then fuel is not getting to the combustion chamber.
4. Just on principal, drain the fuel and refuel with a fresh load of high test gas. This is the best of both worlds and should preclude any previous gas problems like break down or tank contamination..
5. If you get a pop pop from the carburetor, Try and inject a SMALL amount into the carb and see if you can get a small sustained run. If that occurs, then it's just a matter of adjusting the carb and throttle as specified by the manual.
6. Check all your gearing fluids. The manual will give you the correct oil weights and capacity for the bike. Doing it know precludes problems later on.

Summarizing; When they have not been run, nature conspires to give them a few more problems to deal with. My course of recommendations is designed to get you road ready. Drive it safe and be happy.

Sincerely,

Bill Andrews

Scooter carb. keeps flooding?

Check needle valve assembly, needle valve mating surface usually gets worn or has grooves, this can be seen when conical taper surface has a step so replace part.
Also check float pivot pin for wear, smooth operation and set the (float height tang) which holds the needle valve, setting it to machine fuel level specs.
Fuel might be contaminated with rust or other debris which can make the valve open thus flooding the carb.
Adjust and check throttle cable, needle position, timing screw and fuel choke component too.
Worst case, carb might have cracks.Hope info helps, happy tinkering :)

I have a 150cc Longbo Chinese scooter that won't start without starter fluid...?

You have described the basic symptoms of a fouled/blocked idle jet circuit. This happens a lot locally after winter storage with poor gas and no cleaner- the carb idle jet or venting get clogged with gas varnish/gel/dirt. Carb cleaning is the repair- but this means more than a spray can of gumout while mounted to engine which may get some of larger main jet clean. Not familiar with your carb design on what seems to be a mainland chinese engine-- but many of the Chinese made engines use copies of Keihen and Mikuni carbs from earlier Japanese engines- so if you can't find a longbo manual check out a japanese carb repair manual like Chilton and see what is looks like, try that disassemble. Couple points from other small engine carbs- Walbro had a tiny hole in casting of center jet mounting that vented idle jet and this was often overlooked when float bowl removed and carb spray used- but simple small wire probe will clear. Second is some carbs had a idle jet screw that was the air vent screw- if you seat it to bottom you shut off air to idle jet circuit and you would get your symptoms. Slide valve carb- the idle jet orifice is not the center needle but small hole toward edge of slide- carb spray down this hole may clear idle circuit if it is like many newer carbs without adjusting screw for EPA standards. In a plate valve design the idle is often to back edge of throttle plate when in idle position- adjust idle by throttle stop setting if it doesn't have idle screw- especially if carb design is meant to be a partial shutoff when completely closed. You seem to have most of run basics- spark, compression and high speed fuel-- just need to get idle jet cleared. have fun.

My scooters engine got flooded.?

That scooter does NOT have a fuel shut off valve, but a lot of owners of that and similar scooters add one!

You should be fine if that is the problem, which really did not state. I assume you cannot get it to start, and think it is flooded.

FIRST STEP: make sure the kill switch is OFF!! then,

While it is 'drying out' check the fuel lines and the vacuum lines. Those often come off or develop kinks, or even get splits in them. Any of those things can cause the failure to start thing. You can access all the area you need to check by removing the seat and storage box, no need to take the seat apart from the box, just remove the whole set up.

If all the lines are as they should be, and you still can't start it, check the carb, the float might be hung up.

Accidental put diesel gas in my 150cc scooter what do i do??

I've been there. I got four miles before the bike quit. I siphoned off the tank and re-filled with regular gas. The bike smoked for a couple days, but diesel is just oil, after all.
There is a bolt at the bottom of the carb float bowl, remove that to drain the carb.

50CC Scooter idle problem. Bike will not start unless air intake is covered, then will go full speed! What???

I just cleaned the carb
I Cleaned petcock
I sealed the rubber intake manifold
the idle screw is all the way out
The fast idle screw makes no difference...
The throttle is not sticking open
Any ideas???
