Christmas Gifts For My Family

Should I get my girlfriend's family gifts for Christmas?

So I've been with my girlfriend for over 8 years in a very serious relationship. She has a really big family (6 siblings) and last year I felt stupid because I had made sure that I got something for each of them or at least paid half of a joint gift from me and my girlfriend but only one of them got me anything. The reason it bothered me though was because her sister's husband (they are married but have been together for less time than me and my GF) got something from everyone and I felt very left out or unwanted. The one thing I did get wasn't even a super expensive or nice gift but it meant a lot to me just that they thought about me as part of the family.

Anyways I plan on getting her parents gifts (since they always include me) and something nice for the sister who got me something last year but should I buy things for the rest of her family? I'm finally out of school so I have money but I don't want to look like an idiot getting gifts for people that aren't going to return the thought (for the 2nd year in a row).

Also does it make sense that I should feel slighted by that? I mean the husband I mentioned is an in-law and I'm just a boyfriend but I spend tons of time with this family and feel like they are part of my family now and have been for years.

Thanks for any answer I don't normally get upset about stuff like this but for some reason this really bothered me and I am not great at knowing what to do in these types of situations.

Cheap Christmas gift ideas for entire family?

i got a great idea that i have been doing that is even cheaper on you.....i have been doing this for what will be 3 years now...my mom does the same...they are movie gift bowls...you give them to each couple..that way you kill 2 birds in one stone....you go to the dollor store and buy big popcorn bowls....in each bowl but a movie, bag of popcorn,2 sodas,2 movie boxes of candy, some beef jerky and there you go...wrap it in clear gift wrap and tie a bow..people love them!!!!!you can also do different things with the movies...like a basket with coffee and mugs...or hot chocolate and mugs...they are cheap...the bowl..1.00...you can buy a box of 15 bags of popcorn for 3.00...movies at walmart for 5.50...12 pack of soda for 3.00.....box candy.99....you get the idea...just work with it and with what the couple likes!!!!!

that is why this is a good idea..you can do the bowl according to their taste but everyone loves going to the movies but you bring a movie date to them..even if you cant do all of them by couple you are under 20.00 bucks per person!since you are all young you could even replace the soda with beer if the person drinks and are over 21!

Should I get gifts for my boyfriend's family for Christmas?

I've been dating this guy for about 3 months. Things have been progressing and we plan on spending time with both of our families for Christmas this year. Should I get presents for his family members too? If so, should I include his siblings as well or just his parents, or his mother? Any input would be appreciated.

Is it rude to buy family members cheap Christmas gifts?

You should always purchase Xmas gifts that fit into your budget. Doesn’t matter what other family members do. Sometimes with a small budget you can be clever with doing the gift. My daughter-in-law makes marvellous gift baskets and most items are purchased at the dollar store. If you can do a craft, start early and hand out home made gifts. I know someone who makes a new ornament for her grandchildren every year. When the children are grown and have their own homes they will have a set of homemade ornaments from their Grandma. My sister was all about the price. One year I bought a picture of a seascape from a store and it cost under $20 - and my mom loved it. It looked like a painting but it wasn’t. My sister admired it until I told her what it cost and then she didn’t think much of my gift. Doesn’t matter, my mom loved it.I buy what I think the person would enjoy and I stay within my budget. You could always just hand out Timmie’s gift cards since almost everyone drinks their coffee.Don’t let people pressure you or make you feel bad if you can’t afford a fancy gift. If you can afford one but you feel they don’t really like it anyways then give gifts that support charities. Things like buying chickens or goats for someone in a poor country and do it in their name.

Why do people give you their family photos as a Christmas gift?

Every year I give all my siblings a framed photo of my two kids. I do the same for their grandparents. Why do I do it?Because I don’t send photos at any other time of the year, and I assume that my family members care about my kids, and would appreciate having one up-to-date photograph to display.Because I care about my nieces and nephews, and would love it if the favour were returned. I mean Facebook photos and texted photos are all well and good, but I like to display actual print outs of photos in my house too. If I give the present I want to receive, maybe the idea will catch on.Because it’s an easy gift for the people who have everything. All my siblings own their own houses, and have double incomes. They don’t need anything; they can buy whatever they want. A family photo, or a photo of the kids is a personal gift that I can guarantee they don’t already have, and would not be able to get for themselves. It’s inexpensive. Depending on the size of the photograph (I usually go 6 x 8) and the size and style of the frame, this is a gift that can be given which costs under $10.

How much money do you spend on christmas gifts?

I don't think so. You have to look at how much money you make and how much you have to afford Christmas gifts. I think that is a wonderful Idea for the familys.

For me and my husbands extended family, we buy christmas cards and put in pictures of us and of our little boy. They seem just fine with that as they know that we are on a budget and can't afford to buy gifts for everyone.

As for immediate family, we try to not spend more than $50 per person or we get combined gifts for our parents. We honestly don't budget a certain amt, but we start shopping in early october to get our parents, brothers and sisters presents. Then in November we start to concentrate on us. As my son will be a year and a half old this year, we won't spend more than $100 as the grandparents will cover a lot more.

As for what we spend on each other, we try to not go over $150 per person.

Something that we do is that we both have a wishlist and we start buying some little things as early as August. That way it's not hard on the budget.

I hope this helps. I know that Christmas time can definately be stressful.

At what age did your family stop giving you Christmas presents?

The year I turned eighteen, my parents gave me a box of celestial seasonings tea, I was allergic to, and had been for ten years. The next year my nephew was born, and Christmas was all about their first grandchild. My brother and sister got gifts because they were still living at home. But was told they had spent too much on the baby, they said would take my husband and I out to dinner in a month or so. But my father diagnosed with cancer in February, and they never took us out. My father died before the next Christmas and I didn’t get a Christmas or birthday gift for the next six years until my daughter was born and my mother remarried. The next three or four years, my daughter got birthday and Christmas gifts and my husband and I got a gift card at Christmas. They moved out of state to be closer to his kids and grandkids, and we haven’t gotten gifts much since. My daughter has gotten maybe five gifts total, (Christmas and birthday’s combined), from her grandparents in a dozen years. My husband and I haven’t even gotten that. It wouldn’t bother me so much if I didn’t know my sister, my nephew, and my step-siblings and their kids, have gotten gifts from them every birthday and every Christmas
