Why don't video game companies care that Linux has advantages over Windows?
It’s not about the strengths and faults of any given platform, it’s about the demand their product on that platform would generate.For example, the Playstation Vita is an absolute amazing device. It has fantastic graphics, great input features, lots of power, twin analog sticks, portable size but still with a large screen.. People who love the Vita LOVE the Vita and its a significantly more versatile and powerful system than the Nintendo 3DS.However, the 3DS has sold more than 5 times better. A game company (which deals with high risk ventures - lots of expenses with a high degree of uncertainty), would be much wiser to optimize and market their game to the 3DS than to the Vita.Windows users make up 90% of the market sshare, Mac 6%, and Linux 3% (Usage share of operating systems - Wikipedia). Game companies are usually unwilling to support an entire platform for such a small market share. Its not just a matter of compiling the game on that platform, but marketing to it, optimizing for it, and supporting customers of it. That’s a fair amount of extra overhead for a studio that might not even make back the money they spent on developing the game in the first place.
