Coloring Dark Hair To A Lighter Color Using Box Color

Coloring over Semi-permanent hair color???

Hi. Yesterday, I put a dark brown hair semi permanent hair color in my hair. My hair is pretty dark, but not black and the dark brown on the box looked lighter than my hair. So I put it in, but my hair ended up getting darker?!?!?! Anyway, I wanted it to be lighter, so is there any way to get my hair to be regular brown with semi permanent hair coloring products?? And if so, can I color over top of the color I just did?? (Semi permanent washes out in 6 to 8 washes, but I want to know if I can color it again without waiting for it to wash out). Thanks!

How can I dye my dark brown hair lighter?

WELL natural pigment in the hair has RED. You can't avoid the red but you can process passed it. Heres some options.

If you have not colored your hair ever then you can pick a shade of lighter brown color and your hair WILL lift to the desired look. If you colored your hair years ago and havent cut it or its grown out it still will make it uneven. SO this is only if you are completely natural. Otherwise it will only get lighter where its natural and the parts thats colored will stay exactly the same!! Color does not lift color!

Bleach wash or full on bleach. A "bleach wash" is shampoo, 10 volume developer, and bleach mixed together. You cover your hair from roots to ends and slowly wait till it gradually lifts. This is a slower process then straight bleach but better for your hair. It wont be as fired as straight bleach will be. Its important you pay attention to the stages of lift your hair is progressing to. In order to get brown without red you must pass the red stage. So you see your hair looks red then leave it on longer. Brunettes is very hard not to have any red because its such a dominent pigment. Once you are passed the red...im talking looking blond then you rinse. And then you place the desired brown color you wish to have all over your hair from roots to ends.

If there is a beauty supply store around you ask which bleach is best for your hair. YOu wont find bleach at the grocery store. And i really dont recommend the market box colors because that has a large amount of amonia which is damaging to your hair. At beauty supply stores they sell color and have example hair on there.

THis is a huge undertaking. Id be more then helpful to assist you further if you'd like to email you. And one on one questions you might have. I am a stylist and my best friend is always emailing me for hair help. So i dont mind at all. I hope this helped somewhat.

Can I use a blonde box color over bleached hair?

While hypothetically you could, I wouldn’t recommend it.Are you trying to darken your hair, or lighten it more?Bleached hair is already much more fragile, and putting a boxed dye, which are usually designed to be high-lifting, could easily cause the hair to fry, break, or just be extra brittle and gross. If you want it lighter, you might want to (and here come the dreaded words!) go to a salon. Bleach is an iffy topic, and unless you didn’t really want your hair anymore it’s good to tread with caution here.If you want to darken it, however, I’d recommend a semi-permanent dye. These don’t lift, just deposit color, and cause much less damage than permanent dye. While the color will slowly wash out, it’s a lot easier to re-apply the semi-permanent occasionally than to grow a new head of hair. The quick disclaimer: everyone’s hair is different. Your results will depend on your hair type, damage level, and other factors. For my hair, at least, I had bleached it over the summer, and it started yellowing a couple months later, at which point I decided it was too light for me. Thus, I got some medium and dark blonde dyes from Sally’s and used 10 volume developer (which is basically deposit-only) and my hair turned a nice neutral medium-dark blonde. It wasn’t especially damaged afterwards so…success. :)And the other note: you could stop by a Sally’s Beauty Supply store (if you have access to one) and the employees may be able to actually see your hair and give you some advice. I prefer Sally’s products because you are able to control more of the variables, like the developer and exact shade, instead of picking a box dye and hoping for the best.Good luck! :)

Help!! how do i dye my dark brown hair light brown?

dye your hair a light shade of blond. Each time you dye it, it will get lighter. People say that this doesn't work, but I've done it. It will take a while this way but it's allot safer than using bleach or peroxide

Can you put a box hair dye in blonde highlighted hair?

Yes, you can, but be careful. It depends on how dark your natural color is and how heavy and blonde the highlights are.Haircolor is designed to be used on hair with color in it. Highlights can lighten hair to a point where there’s very little, if any, natural pigment. If you have light blonde highlights, the color you add must contain gold (two parts yellow and one part red). Level 6 light golden brown. It it’s not dark enough, you can do it again. If it’s too dark, you’re in trouble.Use a deposit only with 10 volume. No need to lighten. The color may grab on the blonde hair. Especially on the ends. Always apply to clean damp hair. If you’re hair is really toast, put a little conditioner on first.See my video, Why Apply Dry, When Wetter is Better.

Can I apply a second box of hair dye color to get a better result?

Sure you can! Just give your hair at least two weeks to calm down and prepare for more trauma. Do some deep conditioning masks and baby your hair.Choose your next dye based on the results you have, to achieve the results you want. Do you want it darker? Is it too ashy? Just splotchy? Choosing a different shade (be it darker, warmer, simply two boxes, etc) will give you better results than repeating the same thing and hoping for a different result. That’s the definition of insanity, you know. ;)Also a heads up: the hair dye VERY rarely turns out like on the box. Really. I know it may seem like a waste of time, but do a strand test before dying…this has saved me from orange hair a couple times.

Can I use brown box dye to color over caramel highlights?

I have naturally dark brown hair and had caramel peek-a-boo highlights added professionally. They are growing out and i would like to go back to just one solid color being a dark brown and was wondering if I could use box dye from a drug store to do it or will the caramel pieces turn a blueish color. Am I out of luck and have to do it professionally or will box dye work?

Can I dye my hair the same color two days in a row?

I have dark dark dark brown hair, and I dyed it a medium ash blonde hoping to get a lightish brown color. My roots turned a very light brown but random sections in my hair are still pretty dark. I think it's partially because I dyed certain parts of my hair back to dark brown 2 months ago.
I have another box of the same color, should I apply it to the dark spots tomorrow? or should I wait a week or so.

I want to dye my hair a lighter blonde. My hair is currently a dirty blonde with natural highlights. How should I go about doing this? Should I bleach my hair or buy a lighter colour hair dye?

Let me explain the inside process and the difference between dyeing and bleaching. When you bleach your hair, the bleach penetrates your hair shaft and pulls out color from the inner pores. Whereas dyes penetrate the outer shaft and add color to the inner pores. So assuming you start with dirty blonde hair and wish to transition to blonde hair color (take a close look at the colors and be sure you know the difference. It took me a long while to pinpoint the different shades of blonde), you will be going from a darker shade of blonde to a lighter shade of blonde. Hence you will have to bleach your hair. You can bleach your hair at home or professional. If you're relatively inexperienced, I suggest the latter because professional stylists do a really good job compared to what we do at home. Let me know if you have any additional questions or need any help. I'll reply at my earliest :)
