Technical writing will often include features such as bar charts, pie charts, flow diagrams and tables, none of which you would find in a work of literature. It should be broken down into sections with headings, sub-headings, and an appropriate numbering system. A cookery book can be viewed as a piece of technical writing. This should list equipment needed and ingredients, with quantity and availability at the head of each recipe. Attention should be drawn to any preparation which needs to be done in advance. You would not be happy to find half way through a cake recipe something such as: 'Now add the fruit which has been marinaded in sherry for a week.' if that process hadn't been mentioned earlier. Any piece of technical writing should be checked carefully before it is released or published. This should be done by a member of the target audience, as well as by the writer himself.
