Community College To Rotc

Can i do rotc through community college?

The army ROTC program has a very popular way to do ROTC call ECP (early commissioning program) it's available at junior military colleges and other community colleges. It shoves all 4 years of ROTC into two years. At the end of the two years you get a commission.

You still have to obtain a bachelors to actually start working though. Your contract and your training only start after you transfer to a four year and finish getting your degree. (After two years of community college, it only takes two more years at a four year to get a degree, provided that you take enough classes in community college)

The other option is regular ROTC through a community college. Four year universities with ROTC have "crosstown universities". these schools are the other local colleges, sometimes community colleges, that you can do ROTC at. You will go to the four year university to take the classes and do pt though. After two years of community college, you are expected to transfer to a four year, continue ROTC, and work towards your bachelors. After two more years of school and ROTC, you gain a commission and go off to training.

So both options require four years of college and a bachelors, there is no getting around that. The first option just shortens the amount of time it takes to complete ROTC, and you get your commission sooner.

All that said, I wanted to be an officer for a while because my family expected me to go to college. But when I thought about it, I REALLY don't want to go to college. The thought of four more years of school makes me cringe. And I have a 4.0 and take AP classes! I know I don't want college, so I'm going to enlist, try for EOD, and work on a class at a time for a while.
Best of luck!

Community college and ROTC?

Community College students can participate in Army Rotc and Afrotc at a nearby university. The Army Rotc website only lists a fraction of the cross town schools. If there is a University that offers Rotc or Afrotc nearby, contact the Rotc Battalion or Afrotc Detachment and ask if it is possible to participate. In contrast to Army Rotc and Afrotc, Nrotc has very few cross town school arrangements with community colleges.
For instance, in the Los Angeles area...

http://www.lmu.edu/academics/afrotc/cros...
Students at those colleges can also participate in Afrotc at USC or UCLA if they'd prefer.
In the SF Bay Area.....

Do I have to go to UC Berkeley?
No! Army ROTC has cross-enrollment agreements with about fifteen schools in the Bay Area. This means that you can be enrolled at that other schools, and take ROTC's classes to receive credit at your school. Also, you don't have to pay UC Berkeley Extension fees. Students from all four year and/or junior colleges are welcome.

If a student does not participate in Rotc while at the community college then he can go to LTC at Fort Knox Kentucky for six weeks the summer before transferring or he can do the three year program. The first year the Cadet takes the freshman and sophomore year classes. The PT requirement which is the most time consuming aspect of Rotc is the same whether taking only the freshman year classes or both the freshman and sophomore year classes. Three years of Jrotc from any service branch can take the place of the first two years of Rotc.
Good Luck!

Can I join the army rotc while in community college?

As long as there is a nearby Rotc Battalion that allows community college students to join, you should be good to go. Golden Bear Battalion, the first battalion in California, and among the most prestigious battalions in the entire country, welcomes all local community college students:

Just to let you know, the Army Rotc website is very incomplete when it comes to listing cross town schools. For instance, there is only one listed for Golden Bear Battalion and it is an hour and twenty minute's drive away in the Napa Valley. There is actually a community college located about a ten minute walk from Golden Bear Battalion(Berkeley City College) and most of that walk is on the Berkeley campus. One about a twelve minute drive(Merritt College), one a fifteen minute drive(College of Alameda) and one about a twenty minute drive(Contra Costa College) two that are about a twenty five minute drive(Diablo Valley College and Chabot College) and yet another a short subway ride away(Laney College.)
Good Luck!

Community college student ROTC?

You must have taken either the ACT or SAT and you have to provide the scores when applying for rotc. You can transfer to a 4 year school and go in as a junior but you will have to go through rotc basic camp or whatever they are calling it now to make up for not having rotc during your freshman and sophomore years. What you really need to do is to contact the rotc department of the school that you wish to transfer to immediately because there are deadlines for application. If you get in contact with a department now, they can help guide you through the process. If your grades are good, you can also apply for a two year scholarship but you have to get the ball rolling now. Good luck.

By the way, you also have to be accepted to the school so you need to get your applications in very soon. Most colleges have November deadlines so do not wait. You will also have to provide copies of your high school transcripts and your cc transcripts so make sure that you get going because those things can take time. In addition, if your high school gpa was not that great but you brought your grades up in college your high school grades will not have a big impact. I know this from experience.

What the cc made you take was a placement test. This test does not replace the need for military requirements. Like I said, contact the rotc department of the school that you wish to transfer to. Also, make sure that you will have enough courses that will enable you to transfer as a junior. Any coursework that you have taken that is not either 101 level or above will not be accepted. In addition, make sure that your other courses will count towards requirements for your degree and not just as electives. Many state universities have good transfer programs while others do not.

I want to start Army ROTC... My community college doesn't have the program but one 45 mins away does..?

Yes you could stay at your current school and take your Army ROTC courses at the other school. But you would probably want to think about eventually transferring to the school with Army ROTC, just to make life easier for yourself. You don't want to commute 45 min every M,W,F morning for PT.

What school has the ROTC program? If you can find it on the Army ROTC website, you can see the cross-town schools that are allowed to participate in the program.

Rotc program offered in community colleges?

You have to be in a 4 year school that offers bachelor degrees. your best bet is to do your two years at community college and get your general education requirements out of the way. then transfer to a four year school with an ROTC program; most Florida state schools have them.

ROTC, community college - crosstown agreement?

Nope

while it is possible to transfer to another 4 year university, other than the one you have been taking ROTC at

There are problems with doing that

1. You must be picked to continue in the advanced ROTC course and go to the summer leadership school after your 2nd year

so wy would your ROTC cadre recommend you or send you to the leadership school, if your Not going to be continuing school there ? they will just send someone else already at the univ.

2. 2 year scholarships are school dependent

IE: the cadre at the school controls who gets them, so if you got the 2 year scholarship, it is ONLY good at the university rotc program that offered it, not another univ

ROTC COLLEGE QUESTION????????????

i plan on attending ROTC. Its not offered at my community college but its listed under a college that does offer it (fordham). I plan on doing ROTC after 2 years at community college. Is it difficult to start ROTC your sophomore year? Can you even join ROTC your sophomore year? If so, how would the balance between college and ROTC be?

Let me explain to you how ROTC works…you do it in conjunction with your college for four years and at the end you get your commission as 2nd Lt. BUT you must have completed your bachelors degree before you are granted your commission.Community Colleges don’t offer bachelors degrees only associates (most of the time). This will not stop you from joining ROTC but it will prevent you from commiting for third year of ROTC and finishing. The first two years or ROTC are just “trial” years, you go to PT in the mornings, there is a formation and class day (land nav, still etc basic stuff) in which you wear your uniform during the day(yeah you have to go to regular college class in uniform too, our day was Fridays). You can do the first two years of ROTC as long as you want (I did for 4 years, aced all the classes and it helped my gpa in college, cos ROTC classes count as credits, but since I wasn’t in enrolled in a 4 year degree I could move forward). You will also go to field excersices and battalion meeting in which you will meet people from the other companies ( I was part of Lion Co part of the Bulldog Battalion ROTC in Puerto Rico which include the south and west of the island colleges).Anyways, the 3 and 4th year of ROTC are for the students that decided to make the commitment, they are college juniors and seniors, the last two years the military studies are serious and your performance evaluated during field exercises (FTXs are during the weekend so regular classes aren’t interrupted). In the summer you would go state side for more official training and based on your performance your cadet rank for the next year is determine. The day you graduate and get your bachelors diploma is the day you are commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army( or Air Force, Navy/Marines the process is the same.).So basically without a Bachelor degree goal, ROTC is a waste of time ( but not a waste of knowledge you sure will learn a lot from it). If your community college offers bachelors degrees and you are pursuing one You HAVE to enroll in ROTC at the same time you start your 4 year degree studies.Good luck.
