Consumer Reports On 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Is the Volkswagen Jetta a good car to buy used? Why or why not?

If you buy a used Jetta, head my warning.Buy with low miles, preferably below 20k miles.Make sure your warranty covers tires, AC, tire pressure monitor and breaks for the first couple of years. (New addition- after 150,000 miles my car has an issue with struts and shock absorbers. The cost ranges between $1,040 and $1,750 to replace. Just something to look into having under warranty when negotiating) Those are the main problems I experienced. I was fortunate with the engine. Take good care of it and it should last you a good while. The engine should be fine with low mileage, but you don't know if the car was abused by the previous owner. Make sure the car is inspected thoroughly before buying.Buying or leasing new may cost more in the short term. When buying used, always know every detail of the insides of the car before you buyI have spent several thousands of dollars on my Jetta in the last year in maintenance and service but I also drive a lot. The main thing is to get your dealer to give you a good warranty that covers the majority of possible issues with the car over the first few years and you will be fine.

2007 volkswagen jetta 2.5 a/c not working?

Hello, I have some issues with my Jetta's a/c. It's a 2007 83k miles 2.5 engine, Wolfsberg edition. It started with the a/c being delayed for about 2 minutes. I would start the car, turn on the a/c. Outside temp approx 95 degrees. The a/c air would blow, however, it wouldn't be cold. I would run the car for about two minutes, then the cold air would kick in. This went on for days. Then the cold air would kick in 5 min after starting the car, and so on. So I took the car in to the local auto parts store and ran a diagnostic. The code was p0841; coming down to cooling fan failure. The salesperson told me it could be either the fan itself, the relay, the module or the sensor. There are no cheap parts when it comes to a volkswagen. The first thing I did was take it to the local mechanic to check for a/c refrigerant levels..... which turned out to be normal, so that wasn't the problem. The mechanic referred me to an electric shop. I have not taken it there yet. I decided to come online and check if anyone has had this problem and if they found a solution to it. Thanks in advance.

Opinions on 2006-2007 Volkswagen Jetta?

don't own one, but Consumer Reports says they are not particularly reliable. CR ratings are based 100% on replys from CR readers(in 2006 1.3 million) we, I'm one, fill out a long survey on everything we have and have bought and what problems we have had and if it was fixed, etc. and if we would buy it again.
the european autos have not been very reliable of late.

How reliable are Volkswagen Jettas?

I'm 17 and looking at a first car. I had been looking at a 2007 model Volvo S40 but there is a problem: I may be moving soon.
I live in Mississippi, but my dad lost his job back in February, and we may be moving as far away as Colorado. If we move that far away, my parents stated that we'd just get settled in there (my dad would be driving his Hyundai Sonata over there and me and my mom would fly) and so he told me to look for used cars for sale in the area and he doesn't want to purchase anything over around $5k, and so I had found a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The thing is, I've heard that Volkswagens are unreliable cars and my family has already had to deal with enough headaches owning Ford and GM cars that much of my family has started buying Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, and, as aforementioned with my dad's case, Hyundais. The thing is also, my mom wants me driving a very safe car (which explains why I had been looking at a Volvo for sale here) and the Jetta has good crash test scores, but its reliability doesn't look good based on the Consumer Reports ratings. I'm going to be a senior in high school and I'm not only driving this car for that, but for all four years of college, so can anyone tell me how long this kind of car would last? The one for sale in Colorado Springs had around 114k miles, and I'd probably drive to over 200k...

Are Volkswagen Passats a good car?

While the Passat is a good car, you can get better bang for your buck from competitors like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Both start around the same price and offer a better value than the Passat. The Honda Accord offers more safety features, better crash test results, and two infotainment displays. Not only does the Camry rank higher in the midsize class, it also has a lower price. With the Camry, you'll get sportier handling and an infotainment system that uses a multifunction knob, which helps give it an upscale look and feel.whereas The Volkswagen Passat provides a comfortable ride with plenty of room for family and friends. Its spacious and quiet cabin includes high-quality materials. The Passat also offers a smooth, if not sporty, ride. The standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers sufficient power, but the optional V6 provides more power and better acceleration. The Volkswagen Passat has a track record of average reliability. For above-average reliability, look to the Honda Accord. Reliability isn't the only reason this midsize car makes a better choice. Features are lacking in the Passat, including the small touch-screen display in its base infotainment system. The systems in rivals like the Accord and Camry are larger and look more up to date.

They are both excellent choices, what suits your lifestyle may not be someone else, you really have to find out on your own by extensive test drives.

Which car is better, the VW Jetta or the Hond Civic?

I’ve owned versions of both. I bought a 2003 Civic Hybrid new and loved it for its great mileage, sometimes over 50mpg on trips. I kept a spreadsheet of miles driven and gas purchased for about 6 years. Lifetime average was about 46mpg. Build quality was very good, but after about 8 years 120k miles in the rust belt, it started needing repairs-but not to the hybrid batteries and system, they held up very well! It was starting to rust too. It got me through the worst of the gas price surges in the mid 2000’s. In 2011 traded it for my current car, a 2006 Jetta TDi. I like the TDi better. Although it gets less mileage, -about 35MPG, it would blow the doors off the Honda. It also has very good build quality, though I have had to perform some major repairs. However, I enjoy working on it, because I used to work on German cars long ago. So, for someone not into doing their own repairs, a Civic may be a tad more reliable than a similar vintage VW. It depends what you want in the car. If reliability is the main concern, look at consumer reports used car charts which show maintenance statistics for many areas on different models. If you want fun to drive, I’d go for the Vdub.

How long will a VW Jetta last?

Consumer Reports is biased garbage.

160k miles is not a problem. It is a 5 speed so the most failure prone piece of equipment isn't even part of the car.

The seller could be a problem though. When so little information is posted, it usually signals that they know absolutely nothing about the car.

If you are still interested, take it to an independent VW shop and have them check it out. The 2.0l is by and large the most reliable, easiest, and cheapest to maintain.
