Could I Have Diabetes

Do I have type 2 diabetes?

PLEASE go to a firehouse and have a paramedic check your blood sugar. They'll gladly do it for you.
If it's high, yes, you might have type 2 diabetes. If your sugar is between 70-130 before eating, your probabbly safe.
DON'T go to an emergency room unless it's an actual emergency. It will cost someone a $1000.00: You, your insurer or the government. Again, the firehouse will gladly do it for you.

Do I have Diabetes?????????????????????

OK, first, relax. :)

Yes, these are some of the signs of diabetes. However, you could also be pregnant, have a thyroid problem, be depressed, or anything on a virtually endless list of ills that plague us today.

If you don't, or cannot, trust your doctor, change doctors. You really need someone with medical experience, and who is objective, to help you with your medical choices. And, honestly, TRUST is the biggest issue here.

If you doctor said you were healthy, and you have no reasons to doubt her, then I would go with that assessment. Your weight for your height, is around right, being less than a male at your age/build. True, diabetes is passed down, genetically, but just one person doesn't mean you have it. If your mother and father do not, then you may not. The trait is not 100%, anyway, and you uncle's son or daughter may not have diabetes just because he does.

You have been tested, and it came back negative. While it could be wrong, I doubt it. You are limited on what you can do, but there is a "home" test that you could do to test, but it isn't acceptable today.

Today, diabetes is an illness that hits Americans hard. However, most are overweight, lack exercise, and do not eat well, things most teens do not have problems with (especially teenage girls who watch their weight so closely). Racial issues also come into play, through they are rarely mentioned.

Try not to "buy" into the scare tactics that the press and others use to get you to give 90% of your income to doctors, just for tests. Most females are "attacked" daily to be ultra-thin models, so they can be "attractive" to American males. This has been an ongoing problem since the 1950s, and getting worse each year, that the "First Lady" has recently decided to endorse. If you are not overweight, at higher risk by other factors, TRY not to worry. If you suspect your doctor is a quack, find one you do trust and see what they say.

OK?

Could I have diabetes?

I just turned 21 a few weeks ago. Just today, I noticed that my breath smells kinda sweet. It's hard to describe - but many like bubblegum idk? I ate rice pudding yesterday and maybe that caused the sweetness or coffee creamer? But, I don't feel really tired, or thirsty unless I don't drink water obviously. I don't drink a lot of water so I get that normal really thirsty feeling. Once I drink a glass of water, I'm fine. I googled the symptoms of diabetes and I don't have any other ones. I don't pee that much unless I drink something. I am overweight though and high blood pressure. It's been high since I was a kid (like 7 years old). I know I'm at risk but I don't have the other symptoms. I have depression so it's tricky - because I feel tired from that. I'm working on losing weight and eating more fruits and vegetables and not so many carbs and fast food. I've worn glasses for 7-8 years and don't have problem with blurry vision unless I get dehydrated or don't wear my glasses. I do have itchy skin, because of dandruff/eczema/dermatitis. It doesn't keep me up all night though. I have anxiety so I get shortness or breath and choking feelings. My legs don't hurt either unless I walk a lot because I'm not used to exercising. Once I sit down even for 5 minutes, I'm good to go. I gained a lot of weight because of bad eating and depression. Does this sound like diabetes or just bad breath? Thanks.

Can a person have diabetes at the age of 20?

There are more than the two. This is from JDRF.org. In addition to those there is a late onset Type 1 that can occur later than that. There isn't a cut- off age for type 2.

Could my 4-year-old son have diabetes?

Take him to a doctor, and worry about the bill later. You your state will have some kind of Medicaid, or else you will be able to get him on Medicare as someone with a disability— there will be something for him if he is diagnosed with diabetes. You will have to hunt for it, but it will be there. As far as the initial doctor bill, just tell them after the appointment that you need to make payments. They’ve already seen you; there’s nothing they can do.Or take him to an emergency room. They must treat you, and must make payment arrangements with you, even if it’s $10 a month.Do make whatever minimal payments you have agreed to, though.

Could I have diabetes even if I'm skinny?

Everybody else seems to be telling you to cut out carbs.I'm going to tell you to get a glucose meter and start measuring your blood sugars. There are two numbers you need to measure, your fasting blood sugar levels (first thing in the morning, before you eat), and post-prandial (what they are after meals).Of the two, the post-prandial number is the more important. It's common for your blood sugar to spike far too high than it should, months and years before your fasting numbers start to climb.  (And naturally, it's only the fasting number that most doctors check.)If you see your post-meal blood sugars approaching 140 mg/dL, your clearly developing a problem. If they're over 200, you have a problem, and you not only need to see a doctor, you need to convince him that you need to start treatment immediately. The thing you need to understand is that diabetes doesn't actually cause any damage to the body, it's excessive blood sugar levels that do that. And the damage they cause is cumulative. The damage to nerves, vision, etc., doesn't go away. So, pick up a meter today, test today. And if your numbers are too high, schedule an appointment with a doctor today - for as soon as he will see you, and stop eating carbs of any sort, now, before you see him.And if your numbers are fine, never mind.

I think I have diabetes, but I'm not 100% sure. What should I do?

See a doctor and get tested.  There are a number of tests they could arrange, from a urine test, random or fasting blood glucose tests, or an oral glucose tolerance test.  All of these can be used to clarify the diagnosis. Just to be clear, tell your doctor all the symptoms you are worried about, and also say that you are worried it could be diabetes.  If you only do one of those two things, then it is much harder for the doctor to help you.  They need to know the symptoms you have to be able to consider other causes, but they also need to know what you're worried about so they can address your concerns, and reassure you if that is not what they think is going on. The diabetes most people think of is technically called "Diabetes mellitus type 2" but there are different kinds of diabetes, and type 1 diabetes is more likely to make you underweight than overweight.  If you do have diabetes, the treatments options and changes you might need to make in your lifestyle will depend on what type of diabetes it is, so not going for a medical opinion is potentially very dangerous.
