Could It Be Cancer Or Not

Can you have cancer for years and not know?

Yes. In most cases, cancer is considered a disease with a long sub-clinical (asymptomatic, undetectable) history. If you consider a theoretical "exponential growth", a tumor takes more time to go from 10 cells to 1gr (still undetectable) than from 1 gr to 1kgr (a big mass). In some cases, cancer is discovered by chance (without symptoms) and not treated, for any reason. In these cases, we can actually observe the length of the asymptomatic interval, ie the length of time between the discovery of the disease and the patient actually feeling something different.

Is cancer a type of virus?

Hello friends,Cancer is not caused by virus but it is a uncontrolled cell division. But cervical cancer and liver cancer can be caused by Human Papilloma virus and hepatitis B virus respectively. Among noninfectious diseases it is major cause of death.Cancer is of two types:1.BENIGN TUMORIt is not a cancer rather it is a tumor. Differenee between cancer and tumor is slight that tumor don't spread to other body parts whereas cancer can spread if not cured. So benign tumor don't spread. Brain cancer is this type because it's tumor don't spread so it is tumor not cancer.2.MALIGNANT CANCERIt is a type in which tumor spreads and affect other parts also. Spreading of cancer to other parts is called as Metastasis. Metastasis can be via blood, lymph etc. Metastatic tumor symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, enlarged liver or spleen which can lead to abdominal pain.Cancer is not inherited (sporadic). Only with mutated inheritable genes are inherited whose chance is very rare. Mutations on gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 are inherited that are causative for breast or cervical cancer.Anything that can lead to cell proliferation can lead to cancer. It can be nicotine, asbestos, silica, nickel, hormones etc. Yep hormones too can lead to cancer. Like women with brest cancer have higher level of estrogen and progesterone levels in her daughters that show cancer is indirectly inherited without any gene. Men of African region have have higher level of testosterone than person of Asian ancestry that leads to longer penises and higher risk of prostate cancer.Cancer can be cured by medication according to its position and type. Some may include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy, laser therapy etc.

Is there a part of the human body that does not get cancer?

Two Parts of Our Body that Immune to CancerAlmost all parts of the human body, from the blood, brain, eyes, lungs, skin until the bone can be affected by cancer. If there is any part of the body that cannot be affected by cancer, these two parts are hair and nails.Hair and nails cannot be attacked by cancer because the tissue is dead, so hair and nails can be cut. Beside hair and nail, every other part of the body can be attacked by cancer. The lungs, is the body organ that is most easily attacked by cancer. In 2008, 1.4 million people around the world died because of lung cancer.World Health Organisation (WHO) data in 2008 put the stomach in second place of the list of body organ that is easily attack by the cancer. Stomach cancer cause 740,000 deaths, the liver cancer causes 700,000 deaths, colorectal cancers cause 610,000 deaths and breast cancer causes 460,000 deaths.Worse, until now the cause of cancer has never been known with certainty, although many associate it with pollution and lifestyle. The influence of genetic factors are also frequently mentioned, but some experts say that genetic role is not too significant.Genetic factors do not have a big role. For the example, grandparents have no history of cancer, but their descendants are now suddenly suffering from cancer. The only type of cancer that have a bright spot of its root cause is cervical cancer, which is triggered by human papillomavirus (HPV). Therefore, the risk of this type of cancer that only attacks women, can be reduced by giving the HPV vaccine.

Testicular cancer no lump?

Not necessarily.

But here are some symptoms:

a lump in one testis or a hardening of one of the testicles
abnormal sensitivity (either numbness or pain)
loss of sexual activity
sexual withdrawal
build-up of fluid in the scrotum
a dull ache in the lower abdomen or groin
lumbago
An increase, or significant decrease, in the size of one testis. The testicle with a tumor may be severely enlarged, as much as 3 times the original size. Simultaneously the other testicle may be shrunken in size, due to the tumor taking up the majority of the blood supply to the scrotum.
blood in semen
general weak and tired feeling

Even if it's not. You should get it checked out before it's too late.

Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery.. you name it. After we have painstakingly charted out a road map for his treatment , he vanishes. Doesn't turn up for the next check up and on the day we were supposed to start the chemo. And when he does turn up he does so cos he is unable to even get up from bed. On enquiry we come to know after he left from hospital his relatives insisted ‘alternative therapy’ is the way to go. How long can you have cancer without knowing it?

When cancer is detected depends on the cancer itself, its signs, the ambiguity and the individual & the resources they have at their disposal. Some cancers present very quickly and in an almost shockingly fulminant fashion. Others take much longer, and some remain lifelong friends. There are also what we call ‘incidentalomas’. Research shows that upon autopsy, especially of people who died a natural death, many are found to have cancerous or precancerous growths and almost everyone is found to have at least one benign growth. The typical incidentaloma that’s radiologically detected is an adrenal tumour - about 1% of all people getting a full body CT have an adrenal mass. Equally, about one in 1,000 bilateral carotid duplex ultrasonograms reveal a parathyroid mass. Very few of these end up being cancerous. The reverse of the medal is that a large number of people have excessive pain tolerance and put up with discomfort quite well. I thought I was just ‘a little tired’ and needed to ‘suck it up’… right up until I collapsed with a haemoglobin of 4.5 (normal: 12–15). In our family, we do regular routine blood tests and checkups (and, of course, I have to do very frequent blood tests to monitor bone marrow failure). I have known people who have existed with some shockingly big masses for a long time, and most of them did not even know if it was cancerous or not. Especially in developing nations, you often find people unable to afford treatment for huge masses, until the very mass itself is starting to present a danger to their health (no matter whether it’s cancerous or not, a big mass is not good for your long term outlook!). The bottom line? Depends on the cancer. Some will throw a very unique paraneoplastic syndrome that means it’ll be detected early, others can go undetected for years.
