Cpu-z Is Showing My Ram As Single Channel. Help

Why is my RAM running at only 800MHz in Single Channel mode?

Are you sure its running in single channel mode? What does CPU-Z say on the Memory tab?

As far as showing 800MHz, the amount is always shown in half. In other words if it is showing 800MHz, then it is running at 1600MHz.

You know, I don't think its ever a good idea to run a single stick of RAM. Try to get a second identical stick and put them in the #2 and #4 DIMMs.

As a rule of thumb, you basically skip the first DIMM which is right next to the motherboard, and then use the second slot. Then skip one and use the fourth slot. This should be dual channel configuration.

So from the mobo it would look like: [EMPTY] [FULL] [EMPTY] [FULL].

CPU-Z is showing my RAM as single channel. Help?

I have 1x4gb Micron Technology DDR3 ram installed in my laptop. CPU-Z shows it as single channel and I am wondering whether that should be dual channel or if I add another RAM chip, it will change to dual channel. Because I read online and everyone's RAM is dual channel. (Picture attached)

I am planning to buy another RAM chip and I'm afraid it won't work in my laptop.
I have 2 RAM slots.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, I am really new to this.

My motherboard does support dual channel memory.

Is it single because I have only one ram chip installed and it will change to dual when I add another one or it should be dual and I have to change it?

Thank you.

What Is Single Channel Ram Means?

single channel is when the cpu and motherboard "speak" to the memory on in 1 channel.

when you install 2 or 4 memory stick they can "speak" in dual channel - in parallel to all the memory.

the memory has to be the SAME in all specs, for optimal performance.

i suggest you to purchase a DUAL KIT memory

Why is my DDR2 800 showing up as 400mhz in Memtest and CPUz. Is it that its only detecting a single channe?

Ddr2-800 dual channel memory only running single channel, HELP!?

Ok, so I had bought some RAM (memory) for my computer and never really paid attention, but on the POST when I boot my computer it says, quote, "ddr2-800 in single channel mode". The memory is upgraded, and it is currently at 4gb. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. The memory is OCZ Vista upgrade RAM, which is ddr2-800 pc2 6400. I currently have them installed in two seperate color slots on the board, yellow/purple. I'm gonna try to flip them around a bit, but don't think it's gonna help. Nothing is overclocked, all running in native form. My processor is an Intel Pentium D 805 dual core, 533mhz x2 (each core) which is a total of 1066mhz FSB. If it helps any, I am still running the factory power supply as well. Also if I get it to work on dual channel, is there gonna be much difference?

Is it OK to have 7GB of RAM for a Dual Channel Motherboard?DDR2 2GB+1GB+2GB+2GB but with different brand RAM?

I have a hard time imagining your even using over 3gb of ram. Just grab another 1gb stick of generic ram and you'll have 4gb.

yes you can mix and match ram, usually it will work out just fine. as long as the timings the voltage and the speed are very similar.

Download a program called CPU-Z and check the 'SPD' tab to see what your jedec specs are and repost...

UPDATE.......

Ok so it looks like you have 800mhz cas 6 ram. so probably 6-6-6-18. You will want to get ram that is 800mhz and cas 6.
it's also 1.8v ram.

These should work with your other ram. It will not run in dual channel mode because you need sets of 2's. You can keep your 1gb stick in there as well, it might run dual channel, just check CPU-Z after you install and it will say dual or single channel.

if you have vista or windows 7 download a RAM meter sidebar,
http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.aspx?li=587ef54f-e121-418b-b258-e583e105a0d6
it will show you how much ram you use. if you don't use all 3gb ever, or get within 400mb than there is no point in getting more.

if you have XP, rainmeter will show you the amount of ram you are using..

so remember, 1.8v 800mhz ram (CPU-Z says 400mhz, but you double it since it's ddr2, 800mhz effective) cas6, and kingston.

you could also goto Crucial.com and scan your system, it will let you know some extra info about your memory banks.

Can I replace a single slot of ram on my computer?

Your RAM slots don’t have capacities; your RAM cards do. On basically all motherboards, every RAM slot is the same.Currently, you have one 8 GB RAM card, and one 4 GB RAM card. If you replace the 4 GB card with an 8 GB, then it shouldn’t cause any problems, as long as it has the same format as the other one.The format for most RAM cards is DDR3, but some high end systems use DDR4, and (although it doesn’t matter to you) some GPUs use GDDR5.

Will increasing the RAM from 2gb to 4gb speed up my laptop?

See it's not as simple.RAM basically provides space to data being executed.Let me explain:Think of RAM as a big main central hall, HDD as shelves around this main hall, Processor as the Inventory Manager and YOU, of course, THE BOSS.You come and order to play a song. Manager goes running, find the file you ordered in the shelves and throw it in the hall. It opens and music starts playing. Then you want to open some document. A file thrown in the main hall again and it opened. With all the tasks being done, they are being thrown in the hall. If you close the music player, it will be placed back in its shelf. So simultaneous tasks will not confuse the manager (processor or whole CPU assembly), if your hall (RAM) is big enough. So it will affect your speed, based on the type of usage demanded.Hope it helps :)

Can I run different RAM brands in a dual channel? I have this RAM: Team 8GB Elite Plus DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz. Can I run this RAM in a dual channel mode with this RAM, CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C16?

You can, but the motherboard will adapt to the slowest module in terms of timing. If you have 4 sockets, then you can run 1 in each socket. It's better to run matched timing. The brand does not matter. I have 3 channel memory, and I have been running 12GB 4X3 but one of the chips is the same speed but not the same brand. Has not affected it at all. However, I do plan to get 3 more sticks in the future to bring it up to its max of 24.
