Crowded House Distant Sun Music Help

Meaning of Distant Sun- song by Crowded House?

It means the sun is far away.

But seriously, what are you asking? What it means to each listener? or What it's supposed to mean to the writer? I think there is no right or wrong to what it means. It can mean whatever the heck you want it to mean. It can be about love for a woman to some people and about love for a hat to other people. How does the song make you feel? what do you think about when you listen to it? I'm sure it means something to you, and that's what should matter. I once thought a song was about something special and it made me happy, when I searched for the 'meaning' of the song, it was about something totally different and horrible and it ruined it for me. Just be happy with what it means to you. That's the beauty of a good song, it speaks to everyone in it's own way, allowing everybody connect to the same song in different ways.

Who are some "one-hit wonder" bands whose musical catalog is actually far better than their one-hit?

Many of these (especially the Grateful Dead) may have indeed had “one hit” as a single, but they had good selling albums and airplay of songs from those (and other albums)—look at Led Zeppelin too. Here is truly a “one hit wonder” from a band that had just this one song released, so that’s their entire “catalog” but their influence went far beyond their dreams. These guys recorded this self titled song about themselves (“Green Fuz” by….The Green Fuz) in a restaurant that had closed for the evening using just a mic and reel to reel and all the ambience a barbecue joint closed for the night could conjure up. This was probably the only release they and their record label ever released. It was a regional “hit” in N. Texas where they hailed from.Fast forward about 15 years later to a record shop in NYC that had three employees. Eric and Kristy (who’d later be known as Lux and Ivy of The Cramps—the greatest psychobilly band of all time) and a kid with Down’s Syndrome who’d play a crucial role. Lux and Ivy had decided to form a band and asked the other employee if he’d listen to them after the store closed, to which he agreed. Store closes, they set up their guitar, amp and mic and try a few trashy covers. The other employee tells them they sound like Green Fuz. “Huh, what, wait a minute?”. This kid had listened to, and categorized the entire singles collection in this store and they stocked a rare copy of the original. When he played it back to Lux and Ivy they were struck with divine inspiration. This would be the foundation of their sound—voodoo rockabilly with roadhouse garage punk.

Songs about or remind you of stars, space, or planets?

So far I have:

Parallel Universe - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Spaceboy - The Smashing Pumpkins
Space Oddity - David Bowie
Boats and Birds - Gregory and The Hawk (maybe, oppinions?)

This isint really a "song" but I'm putting it on the CD anyways, and it will be last:

A Spaceboys Dream - Belle and Sebastian

Was it the Buddhist prayer "Om Mani Padme Hum" what inspired Lucas to name the princess "Padme" in Star Wars?

I can't seem to find anything confirming that, but from what I just found I would not doubt that you are correct. Also, George Lucas is a pretty intelligent fellow and does tie a lot of history and religion in his movies.
Great question!

What is the album you would give a 10/10 without debate?

So many…but here’s just a few, no order.I imagine I could be talked down to a ‘9’ on a couple of these…but you’d have to be a very good arguer.Apologies if I omitted your personal fave (metal never been my thing, but all due respect…Sabbath at least might have been here) Springsteen fans…maybe tunnel of love? Radiohead fans are probably alrady typing out their replies.
