BQ: I don't know.
Maybe it's just that we are more willing to embrace the realities of life, and have the humour to enjoy the darker side of things...

Was Ozzy ever the "Prince of Darkness"?

A lot of people call Ozzy the "Prince of Darkness" but I've always wondered what that was based off of? He was a dark figure in Black Sabbath and had a sort of evil presence, but the truth is that most of the evil in Black Sabbath was in the lyrics, most of which were written by Geezer Butler and not Ozzy. His solo stuff after Randy died was never the same, and in 1982 he was a guest vocalist on a pop song featuring Madonna. As for biting the heads off of animals, that doesn't necessarily constitute darkness, just insanity; besides he thought the bat was fake. Nowadays he's just a joke. It's like his body is there, but his mind is run by someone else(prescription drugs or Sharon). Don't get me wrong I really love Black Sabbath and the early solo stuff, but in my mind after Sabbath, the perceived "darkness" about Ozzy has been more of an act then an actual state of being. Your thoughts?

Why do people like "death metal" music, even though it sounds so harsh?

There is stuff far more harsh in the world of music. Especially to westerners who are mostly bombarded with Commercial music. I started to listen to Slipknot in 6th grade and since then I grew heavier and heavier listening to Meshuggah by 10th grade and Necrophagist by 11th grade. Now I listen to stuff like Death Grips, Khanate, and Yaporigami Which I think is the next level. But now, I can listen to Death Metal albums when going to sleep. Its almost as therapeutic as study music people listen to when doing their homework. I think music that isn't normal in society like 8 note scales and Pentatonic scales will make people turn away or feel uncomfortable. Its an acquired taste and I feel people should accept it. Usually when people complain about it I hear this1). There is no order to it. Well this is because Death Metal sometimes doesn't follow ABA, ABAA, or ABC song song structure. Sometimes there is no Bridge and no Chorus. Or sometimes the Chorus is the outro and the song is full of Verses and Prechorus. Its a lovely change of pace. They also don’t use the Pentatonic scale like most commercial music does using the same chord progressions.2). I hate the vocals. This, I can sometimes understand, but there is plenty of instrumental Death Metal for this to not be a problem. People in the Death Metal community will not like one vocalists but love another, so its mostly preference. I also listen to music from all over the world and if I don’t speak the language, I see the lyrics as another instrument complementing the music. I don’t need to hear the lyrics to feel the music.3).Its too harsh or the Lyrics are too violent. Another reason I like Death Metal is because they talk about the extremes of human nature and its completely different from what we normally hear. Commercial music is mostly about Drugs, Sex, or Relationships. Well, with Death metal you won’t get that very often. And if you do, its the Biological effects of Drugs or Sexual mutilation and Fetishes. Which is fine with me because you shouldn't take the lyrics seriously anyways. Some Death Metal bands I like have awesome lyrics like Despised Icon. Also, If you can’t understand them then why does the lyrics matter haha. Its all acquired taste.

The song that is untitled by Mushroomhead does it have another name because I can't find it anywhere?

The only place I can find it is on my playlist which I got on playlist.com. I really want to add it to my ipod and I tried looking it up on frostwire but it's not listed.

Help understanding poem "I am a black woman"?

Poetry is different to different people, but this is my take on it:

I am a black woman
the music of my song
some sweet arpeggio of tears
is written in a minor key
and I
can be heard humming in the night
Can be heard
humming
in the night

this is an introductory, shes saying her life is a song, a minor, sad song, basically.

I saw my mate leap screaming to the sea
and I/with these hands/cupped the lifebreath
from my issue in the canebrake
I lost Nat's swinging body in a rain of tears
and heard my son scream all the way from Anzio
for Peace he never knew....I
learned Da Nang and Pork Chop Hill
in anguish
Now my nostrils know the gas
and these trigger tire/d fingers
seek the softness in my warrior's beard

here she talks about her life at war, how she lost the one she loved and felt pain for her son while she was away. Then she says shes used to the shooting, used to the smell of gas.

I am a black woman
tall as a cypress
strong
beyond all definition still
defying place
and time
and circumstance
assailed
impervious
indestructible
Look
on me and be
renewed

she has became 'a black woman', a warrior, a strong, heartless, killing machine because of war. but the emotion behind it is that she isnt really like that, its just a mask, she has become that because she was forced to.

i dont think she is referring to 'black' in a racial way, but merely to the colour, black is dark, usually referred to evil. i gather it was written many years ago, so that aspect wouldnt of mattered anyway.

overall, she is talking about the effects of war on her life, and how it hass changed her, it is quite a deep, heavy poem actually.

hope i helped :)
