Desktop Does Not Turn On But Computer Starts Up

Acer Aspire desktop computer won't turn on?

Hello, If the computer shows no sign of start up. First check the power cord, both ends and make sure that it is in the socket and connected to the computer. If nothing happens you may have a hard ware problem. Remove the battery and leave it out of the computer. Try again to get it to start up, if it does not you will need to take the power supply by a local repair or service shop and have it tested. If it test good
you have a hard ware problem. This type of problem calls for you to sub in parts until you find the problem. This is hard for a home user to do as you will not have the parts like hard drive, memory, cpu and other items. So you will have to take your computer in for a estimate. Local shops have lower prices and faster service than the big box stores...To get a good accurate answer give the brand, model number, installed operating system of the laptop when asking a question as all PC's are not the same. Hey, I enjoyed your question, I am a retired computer technician. I hope I have helped you...

Whenever I start my Sahara desktop computer, it always makes these loud beeps about 5 seconds each.?

5 beeps can mean several things, my guess is your have loose memory or bad memory.

You will have to open the case to look inside. First just push on cards, memory, and cables are tight and reset. Try boot.

No go, then remove your memory except one stick. Try boot.

Still not working, remove cables to your drives, remove all your PCI cards except the video card. On your motherboard you any have video card and one stick of memory. Try to boot, if nothing shows on the screen then your video card is bad. If you see boot screen the video card is good. Replace one card at time, you get beeps then you found the bad part. Last item to plug in is your hard drive because you are turn on and off your computer this could cause damage to your hard drive.

If going inside your computer is something you cannot do. Take your computer to a repair shop.

My computer says my google desktop did not start up correctly how do i fix?

My Packard Bell Desktop Computer won't start up properly?

The first paragraph is what all computers go through before the BIOS which is called the memory check. It checks the clusters for corrupted vectors. If you cannot go through your BIOS so that the Windows OS can start up than you might have 2 problems.

1- You recently uninstall or installed a software which corrupted a driver or shared DLL.
2- You installed or added a new hardware that the computer does not recognize like a graphic's card or sound card, and therefore not setup properly in the BIOS. Or an existing hardware has malfunction and possible broken and no longer works properly.

To enter safe mode look up your model and google for it. F2 usually to boot from a location such as Flash drive, Disc in CD/DVD drive, or from your HDD. F8 should be Safe Mode and F4 is BIOS.

Enter you BIOS and set it to Fail Safe when you start to remember what you have installed.

Also, do not start Windows normally but in Safe Mode with networking. Go to you administrator tools in the control panel and enter the Event Viewer option. Look at all the recent errors for clues.

But the BIOS is important to enter and these what you should look for...and please do not edit a thing unless it's necessary and obviously needs to be done.

Look for
1- If the Harddrive is being detected
2- if the it's detecting a flash drive (or look in back and see, computers not set to recognize Flash cards at start up in BIOS will get Black Screen of Death)
3- Check what the adapter settings are
4- Check if it's set for ATA if using cable for harddrive or RAID if using the very thin plugin cable for harddrive. They usually have black tips
5= Check the graphic carrd settings. You should know what you graphic card is by now. Make sure it's set properly i fit's AGP/PCI, Antialisaing 4x'8x;or 12x, if the RAM of is set properly that matches the card's spec like 256;512;1024.

Then put it in Fail Safe option in top right corner and exit and save.

To check you computer specs, get into safe mode and RUN from Startup menu type dxdiag and enter. Thiis will inform you what is being used on your PC. If you dont' see a graphic card then you know it's the problem. Dont' see the sound manufacturer then you know that's the problem etc.

What do you do if your computer won't turn on after a power outage?

I think you should start with some of the basics that possibly you might not have considered. Is your computer plugged into a surge protector, and if so, does it have a circuit breaker? If so has it been tripped by a surge when the power was cut off or brought back. If the surge protector doesn't have a breaker, has the surge protector "burnt out" by a surge. Reset the breaker or replace the surge protector. It has done its job.Does your computer's power supply have a breaker? Is it tripped? If so reset it.When you attempt to turn the computer on, does the fan on the power supply turn? If it doesn't there's a chance the power supply isn't working and may need replacing. That could be cured by replacing the power supply or replacing the whole case and power supply. If you have the case open and start the computer does the cooling fan on the CPU run? If it doesn't there may be problems with power to the board. You might be looking at replacing the motherboard, CPU, or both.Do the drives run even if the CPU isn't running? The motherboard, CPU, or other important components may have been harmed by surges. If your computer can not be restarted and you can't figure out what has failed. Remember, in truth your computer is not the computer itself but what is on the hard drives. You can take those drives out and place them in another computer... but you might want a tech to do that who knows what they are doing with regards to re-registering the operating system. If your computer has a built in speaker... I know that might be archaic technology, but... computers have something called a POST test. The POST test will play a series of beeps on start-up and the pattern will tell you what has failed. If all is well, that is what produces the beep you hear when starting a computer. When I last had a problem like this... I came home after an extended absence and there had been a substantial spike on the power-lines due to a power-line tower collapsing into the Fraser River. Even though my electronics were Off, and protected by surge protectors the surge got through to the CPU of one of my desktop computers, gateway router, a printer, and a scanner. I cured the computer problem by transplanting the drives into another computer case that had a working motherboard and CPU in it.I am a bit rusty in my computer repair skills, but I hope some of this may help.

Why isn't my computer starting up?

Hi Chris. Hook another monitor up to your computer to see if this is the issue. I am a little suspicious as to the download you mentioned in your post.

#NOTE: If you installed the download, then it could be a driver issue, at which point start in Safemode and at the option screen choose "Start My Computer At The Last Configuration That Worked".

This is written for Vista or Windows 7, but with few wording differences, still applicable to WinXP.

If the monitor change is unsuccessful, you will need to start Windows with either an installation or Recovery Disk. Try a System Restore to a point before the download (this will not remove your downloaded files good or bad).

If your unsuccessful do the same thing but choose to Repair your system (not the Startup repair option).

When you are able to boot into Windows, download, install, UPDATE, then run a quick scan with Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Always good to be on the safe-side...

My computer won't turn on?

First, unplug the computer's power plug and plug in another device just to test if the power outlet is working. If you're using a power strip or a UPS, connect the computer's power cable directly into the wall outlet. If the computer powers up this way, the power strip is faulty.

Next, if you can get another power cable, use it to test whether the problem is with the cable. Use a cable that works on another computer. You may also test your computer's power cable by connecting it to a friend's computer and powering the computer on.

Next, power up your computer and check the backside whether the power supply fan is spinning. If it isn't, the power supply could be faulty.

Next, open up the computer cover and then power it up again. Do you see any light (LED) inside the computer turn on? If not, power it off and reseat/re-insert all the cables, connectors and the RAM after unplugging them first. Then, again power the computer on and check if it starts.

If it still doesn't power on, just remove the RAM and try to power it up again. Does the computer start beeping? If yes, then the problem may be with the RAM. If you have two RAM modules, try them one by one.

If you still can't power the computer on, it may be the power supply which is faulty. You can search Youtube for some good videos on how to test a power supply. Then you can try the method shown.

Contact a technician if you can't try the above steps.

What does CD/DVD : ATAPI iHAS124 B mean during computer start up and why can I not click enter or any keys?

Just replaced my power supply in a desktop computer, and now the computer turns on, but eventually stalls or freezes on a screen that asks for me to choose a boot device, yet I can not select or click enter to proceed. Could I have hooked up the connections wrong? is there a systems bios reset button? Could my keyboard be faulty?

Why is my computer making a high pitch noise and why wont it start up?

Several people here have answered correctly that it's very probably the power supply. I would not advise using the paperclip trick unless you have much experience already working around exposed wires. (That's a safety disclaimer) You can buy a tester specifically for testing power supplys or just borrow another power supply from someone and test it in your system. Make sure it's rated adequately for your hardware as was mentioned already. Before any of that I would recheck all connections & the mounting of the motherboard. I've seen a screw get caught between the case & MB. It got hot enough short circuiting the MB that it melted some solder it was touching and had fixed itself in place. So don't just check in the obvious places. Really scrutinize every nook and cranny. Also if it's not the power supply remember the more complex a system or problem the harder it is to solve. So, strip it to the basics. It needs a power supply, CPU & fan, (& RAM depending on how current the hardware. I forget sometimes. I've been retired a couple of years and still build PC's but when I started they still had real to real tape drives. Cut me some slack. I'm old you young whippersnappers!!!) to start a power on self test. (POST) Without video it will halt and error but if the components are good you won't get that squealing sound. Power down add video test again. Good? Repeat and add you hard drive and so on until everything is connected. Often when you have a bad component the easiest way to tell which one it is, is to do a process of elimination by stripping down to the basic components and work your way back up. It's often the fastest way to. For hardware that is. And this obviously isn't a software issue. Whippersnappers! Oh, and go read "Ready Player One" if you haven't already. I'm almost at the end right now. Good book.

My computer starts, and show a welcome screen also, then it becomes a blank and black screen (no icons, no start menu). How can I start the computer?

This condition is known as black screen of death. This can be happen when there is any malware or there is any security issue or your graphic card is very weak. To repair this you should follow steps given below…Restart your computer. And while restarting press and hold f8.A blue screen will appear called bios. Note locate the option “last known good configuration”.Press enter key. The computer will restarts and wake if it works. If that doesn't works you can follow another steps..Again restart your computer and gold f8 key.Go for advance boot option. Now look for the option “repair your computer”.Enter your user account credential. And look for the option “system recovery”Now look for “system restore” . Go for that and now wait if it works. If in case above steps doesn't work you need a technician.
