Do Apartment Complexes Offer Student Discounts

Why do solicitors always tend to target apartment complexes? Second question: is it legal to do so?

All my life, whenever I've lived in an apartment complex I've always had to deal with a large number of solicitors. Much more so than when I lived in a residential neighborhood. Even when the apartment complex has clearly-posted signs that say "NO SOLICITING", they still solicit. They're like pests. Cockroaches that I'd love to step on and squash.

The question is: why do solicitors tend to target apartment complexes like flies on sh*t? I use that analogy because solicitors are really a combination of those two things (flies and sh*t).

I contact my local police department whenever I have a solicitor come to my front door. The police tell me that the solicitor has the right to knock on doors if they have a permit from the local town/city hall. I'm confused here: isn't an apartment complex considered "private property" where management's rules supercede those of the police??? In other words, if it says "NO SOLICITING", that means no soliciting. Right?

BTW, those magazine sellers are the scourge of the earth,

What are the best and the most affordable apartments near the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus?

Avoid anything marketed as “affordable luxury,” like many of the large apartment complexes near campus (i.e. The Marshall, WaHu). These places tend to have excessive amenities that you don't want/need (like tanning booths) but you have to pay for through high rent. Also avoid rental companies that own dozens of homes; they are often poorly maintained with terrible landlord service (i.e. Dinkytown Rentals , GoGopher Rentals). Also, university housing is overpriced and you get a tiny amount of space, and usually no kitchen- though the location is nice. I and my friends have had better luck with landlords that only own one or two rental properties. I currently live in an apartment building owned by T. Lynn Chilgren Properties, and it's the first time in 4 years I've actually been happy with my apartment! The building is old but well maintained, and the landlord/manager/maintenance crew are all kind, attentive, and personable. I live about a mile away from campus on University Avenue right by Stone Arch, surrounded by apartment buildings that cost thousands of dollars a month. I also get free parking, which is uncommon for apartments near campus. So, while I recommend T. Lynn Chilgren, I also recommend similar rental companies: those that only own a few buildings, likely old but well maintained (those tend to be cheaper while still nice).

If the neighbors in my apartment complex are blatantly mean despite me attempting to be friendly, should I start being rude back?

It’s a bad idea to return rudeness for rudeness. It will only escalate the situation and make it worse. If they are verbally abusing you, you can complain to the landlord, or get an order of protection from the police if the situation gets worse. The best way to deal with this is to do your best to ignore them, make note of any incidents in writing, and report them to the landlord. This can be used if you later need to take legal action, to show a pattern of intrusive behavior. if, at any time, they threaten you or make you feel afraid, you should not hesitate to call the police. I had a friend with an abusive neighbor, and it took several years to resolve the situation, but she finally had him thrown out of the apartment because she was a lawyer, and she understood the importance of documenting every incident. Keep a diary, either on your computer, or as a hard copy, and write letters, not emails to your landlord. Retain a hard copy of every communication in a file, just in case. If you do end up needing to cll the police, make sure to get a copy of the incident report and file that as well.

What is the best way to find an apartment in San Francisco?

Choose 2-3 neighborhoods where you would like to live and walk the streets. Look for Apartment For Rent signs, and call the number listed. Building managers, especially the old-school ones, often put up a sign before posting any kind of listing online. I live in Russian Nob and still see For Rent signs all the time. Sounds counter-intuitive but worked for me in 4 days.

Apartment Pest Problems for Top Floor?

I'm a college student and moving to an apartment in Austin next month. My room is on the 7th floor and was wondering if I'll have to deal with pests if I'm that high off the ground. When I lived in the dorms, I was on the second floor and never even saw a fly except for the cricket my roommate decided to bring home with her. I am extremely scared of bugs and freeze. I literally have a staring contest with a cockroach and I always lose cus I start crying. The apartment has a totally of 8 floors so I'm right under the top floor. Advice in preventing pests would be appreciated if there is a chance they climb that high. Thanks.

Roommate smokes weed in campus apartments?

If these are off campus apartments, the school won't be able to do much about this. If these are school apartments or dorms, contact the security for the building or campus or the floor RA. If your building has rules about this, then contact the building manager.

If you don't want to confront the roommate, ask for a reassignment to another room or wait the year out and find an new apartment or roommate for next semester.

When do you pay the deposit on an apartment?

I am looking to rent an apartment for the first time. I am looking to rent with roomates. I am using craigslist as my primary search tool. I am curious as to when exactly do you pay the deposit and first months rent on an apartment? Do you pay the deposit as soon as you say you want the place, or do you pay it as soon as the landlord says your credit check is okay, or do you pay it the day you move in?

Also, does it look bad if you ask the landlord if you can pay the deposit in..well, deposits? I am a student and I can afford the apartment just fine, but I dont have enough for the deposit + the rent.. I need to move by jan.1 but I dont have any money saved since I was kicked out of my house last month! What are my options?

How many UC Davis students live on campus?

Usually all the freshmen live on campus i.e one-fourth of the undergrad population. That makes it roughly 7000 to 8000 students. I have met couple of undergrads that lived in the dorms for their sophomore year as well, but their population is negligible. Also, sometimes apartment complexes like Colleges at La Rue, apartments at Parkway Circle and the Domes are considered on-campus housing. I think approximately 1500 students should be living in these complexes. That brings up student population who live on campus to 9000 to 9500.Technically West-Village are also considered on-campus housing as their residents are not eligible for on-campus parking permits. I think think in total 3000 people live at West Village. This brings total figure to 12000 students.*** Based only student enrollment from Fall 15. Since, enrollment for Fall 16 was much higher that previous year, one can expect the actual numbers to be higher ***
