Do Bearded Dragons Sometimes Eat Less When Shedding.

My bearded dragon is less energetic and is eating less than usual, also shedding?

When bearded dragons shed they get a little grumpy. So it's normal for them to be hiding and want to be left alone. If he continues this behavior then you might want to see a vet. But in the mean time if you want to help him shed, give him a bath. Lukewarm water, up to his shoulders. Also you can take a very soft bristled tooth brush and brush his shedding parts to help loosen the shed.

Hope all is well, if you have anymore questions feel free to email me at deathshand16@yahoo.com.

Is it normal for bearded dragons to eat less during shedding?

Do bearded dragons quit shedding?

How is it that your bearded dragon is two months old but hasn't shed in three or four months? Or was that supposed to say two years old?

Dragons under a year old should shed at least once a month, sometimes more. Dragons that have reached maturity shed much less frequently.

Not shedding and retained sheds can be a sign of bad nutrition. What sort of salads do you feed her?

This is a good site for bearded dragon salad ingredients. Ideally your dragon should have a salad with about three different veggies each day, and you should switch up the salad each week. If your dragon hasn't been eating her salad, you can also try dusting her food with a vitamin supplement once a week until she starts eating her greens.

Lack of shedding can also be caused by improper humidity in the tank, but since bearded dragons are desert animals and require a very dry environment, this is unlikely. Know that, although recommended on many care sheets, misting your dragon runs the risk of causing a respiratory infection as it introduces excess moisture into your dragon's enclosure.

If you have a dragon with a retained shed on it's tail, you can soak her in warm (not hot) water for 15 minutes with the tail submerged to loosen the skin, then towel her off and put her back in her basking spot to warm up. If the skin doesn't come off in a couple days, you can use an unscented, hypoallergenic moisturizer on the tail. It should moisturize the retained skin enough for it to come off.

Fixing retained sheds is important to the health of the skin underneath, as unshed skin can restrict blood flow to the living tissue and cause necrosis. Eventually this could lead to tail rot, which isn't very nice (and may cause your dragon to lose her tail).

Do bearded dragons eat less when they shed?

Dear Reader,
When a Bearded Dragon sheds it is not comfortable. Normally they wont eat just because of the irritation and aggravation coming with the shedding process. That probably is the reason he is not eating. Its like having a itchy, rough, heavy layer of skin on Your body.

My advice is to keep him stocked with veggies. Not so much crickets, once he is finished with shedding feel free to start him back.

If this doesn't show any differences in behavior, There is another thing but this may only be if he is a adult! If your Bearded Dragon is a adult they are known for not liking crickets as much anymore. sometimes all the want is greens and veggies.

I wish you good luck and hope everything goes well!

Should a bearded dragons basking light be on the same time as the uvb light?

Yes. The idea is to simulate the sun as much as possible. I use a couple of lights, one that does the heat and UVA as well as a UVB bulb. I don’t like the fluorescent bulbs, as they lose the ability to generate the right amount of UVB over time, and our eyes can’t tell the difference, as it stays lit. There are Mercury-vapour lights available that last much longer (packages say up to 3 years, but I’ve never had one last more than about 16 months, some less). As you’re trying to simulate the natural environment and sunlight, it’s probably best to have the cycle on a 12-on and 12-off, light-dark schedule. I also take the lizards outside once in a while, as natural sunlight is great for them! Just keep a good watch on them, since aerial predators could be a problem.

Why isn't my bearded dragon shedding anymore?

I bought a 2 month old bearded dragon last december at a reptile show. I fed him crickets daily (dusted with calcium once or twice a week) as well as collard greens. He used to shed every week and was growing fast. He's about 16 inches now and he's 8 months. I still feed him crickets with calcium and collard greens, but more greens than crickets now. i have him in a 40 gallon breeder. i have a heat bulb at one end of the tank, i have a UV bulb in the middle, and i turn on his night light at night. The heat bulb reaches about 95-100 degrees everyday. Everything is fine except for the fact that he hasnt shed in like the last two months!! whats wrong with him, im getting kind of worried. I know they shed less as they get older but 2 months seems like a pretty long time

Do bearded dragons like to be handled?

Wow, I expected a lot different answers than what has actually been posted on this question. No, Beardies do not have to mental capability to “love” being held by you. Will Beardies stay on their owners because they “do not get enough heat”? Sometimes. My Beardies stay on me for up to an hour before running. And, they show no signs of stress. However, if the room they’re in is cold they’ll probably stay on your skin to stay warm. It doesn’t mean they’re unhealthy, it CAN mean they would just like to STAY warm.My Beardies have a mercury vapor bulbs at a 12 inch distance. This is adequate heat, and UVB exposure. They’re all healthy as can be, beautiful and active. Do they get stressed out, and hate when we handle them?Hell no.My male, Poseidon, who is the best eater, and arguably the healthiest. NEVER leaves my side. When I put him on the floor to run away, he runs back to me. Climbs up my leg, them up to my shoulder and under my jaw.So, do they like being handled? No, but most of them don’t have it either. They will usually show signs of stress if they don’t. Mine do not. Most of mine recognize their names, recognized my wife and I, and I truly do believe they find comfort in us. They show signs of finding comfort in us. Meaning they do not let other people touch them under the beard, feed them, hold them, etc. So, this is my experience, and I think a few of mine recognize I’m home, I’m their provider, and, as much as they actually can, love me.So, you have the freedom to interpret these answers accordingly, I just wanted to share my experience of 10+ years with these amazing animals. They’re such a joy to keep, and you will love keeping them as much as they love having you.Happy Keeping:)

My bearded dragon is rubbing the sides of his head on the log I have for him. What is he doing?

It sounds like he is getting ready to shed. He is scratching himself to loosen up the skin, give him a warm bath. He should stop doing this in a couple of days when he has shed.
