Do I Have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Do I have Obsessive Compulsive disorder?

As far as I understand it, you have OCD.But everyone else is also obsessive about something or the other. But if it is affecting your life, you need to start working on getting over it .I was obsessive about washing my hands before eating anything. Even if you offer me a mint, I wash my hands and then have it. I used to never accept anything from anyone if they did not wash their hands before offering it to me.But one day reality stuck me hard. I was down with typhoid inspite of my obsessiveness towards cleanliness. All my friends, who had Panipuri from the road-side vendor who was sweating in summer, were all fine before exams. But I was hospitalized.I opened my eyes to reality and got over my obsessiveness by differentiating chasing perfection to being realistic. My friend has a tough time controlling thoughts which disturb her. She saw a psychiatrist who diagnosed her with OCD. She undertook a therapy but still does not see any tremendous improvement. To put it in her words, “ The psychiatrist has done whatever she could. I am the one who needs to put in efforts”.If you want to get out of this, you need to put in efforts. Watch your thoughts. Let them pass. But don’t entertain them. If it worries you, just let them stabilize. All this might sound hypothetical, but it can be practiced in real. I used to feel self-pity all the time. After reading 13 things mentally strong people don't do, I have decided to stop feeling pity for myself. So every time, I felt pity for myself, I started rationalizing why I should stop feeling that.Similarly, whenever you feel it is not perfect, tell yourself that it is okay to make mistakes. Don’t entertain that thought. Human beings like to be rational. So try to rationalize your thoughts against chasing perfection and you will be fine.

What should I do if I have obsessive compulsive disorder?

If you know that you have OCD, then you must have been diagnosed by a professional. If your OCD is severe enough that you cannot function normally, like you can't keep a job, you can't get proper sleep, or the people around you say that you're driving them crazy, then you definitely need to find a specialist. The professional who diagnosed you should be able to give you a referral. I have a very good friend of over 20 years who seems to be OCD about certain things, but in fact she has Borderline personality disorder and CPTSD. So make sure you get the right diagnosis. True OCD is not something you can fix by yourself, it literally is a malfunction in your brain that causes you to be stuck in a horrible loop that you cannot break out of. And it tends to get worse without treatment.

What do you think about obsessive compulsive disorder?

OCD, is a common, chronic and long lasting disorder, in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions), and behavior(compulsions), that he/she feels the urge to repeat, over and over(more than average).Obsessions are repeated thoughts, urges, or mental images, that cause anxiety.Compulsions are repetitive behaviors, that a person with OCD feels the urge to do in response to an obsessive thought.

Do you think I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

Well not really if you had any real form of obsessive compulsive disorder you would realize it much more. I knew someone with this but they had it really bad. They had to put the exact amount of tooth paste on there tooth brush and everything in the house was always the same. Perhaps they had an other disorder or more then one disorder.

I am the same way with mosquitoes and other flying bugs or even walking bugs. When I go to sleep there cannot be any bugs in my room of any kind. Even if I spend the next 2 hours getting rid of them useing raid or picking them up or crushing them with something.

I have other things like that as well. I cannot go to sleep without looking under my bed and in the clothest and any other place someone could hide in my room. And the door must be securly locked when I am sleep. But I do not think I have OCD because other things I do not care about. I am not dirty but I do not care if I put a water bottle on the floor etc and my work or school notes are very messy.

Did Steve Jobs have obsessive-compulsive disorder?

100%, at least a certain type. He was completely obsessed with his work, to the point  he would agonise about the soldiering on a circuit board, it would have to be neat and in perfect straight lines..... as a business person this makes no sense, no one. sees it and would even care. Fussing about these type of things costs you money. He 'obsessed' like this on a constant basis.I do think he knew this about himself, so set about keeping his life simple so as to only obsess about a small number of things that he could focus on. To use a perceived weakness as a strength. One version of OCD is being in control and having things just as you want them.

How should I treat sleep obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Do you mean OCD that also affects sleep patterns? You can treat it the way anxiety disorders are treated. Your psychiatrist could recommed you antideppresives of the SSRI variety, which have a proven effect on OCD and if your feeling of anxiety is so intense that it doesn't let you sleep, an anxiolytic could be given. The second part of the treatment (and just as important) is to get therapy. Around 50% of OCD sufferers benefit from cognitive-behavioural therapy, so that's the one I would go with.Good luck!

What are the advantages of my obsessive compulsive disorder?

I had a friend who suffered from OCD. He turned it to his advantage twice. The first time, he became obsessed with learning Japanese. Later, he became obsessed with buying cheap second-hand gold off ebay. I don’t know if you have OCD streaks that you can use to your advantage, or you’re OCD about very particular things. But you can look for ways to use it in your favour. The persistent streak that comes with OCD can be very helpful when pursuing something lucrative.
