Do I Have Sleep Insomnia

Do I have insomnia????????

In the true definition of insomnia, yes you do. But you are a sixteen year old young man with school, girls, sports, girls, parents, girls, siblings, girls, and all the other distractions of your life that keeps your brain running far beyond the time you need to shut down for a while.

Before you go off to the doctor for some medicine, try making some serious changes to your program. Starting tonight if possible, or tomorrow for sure, turn everything off now. Go take a warm shower, blow your nose, drink a glass of water, open a window in your room for fresh air (just a little if it is really cold out), get a small fan going to drown out ambient noise, and crawl into bed.

Relax your body. Blank your mind. You will find yourself thinking "Why did I say that?" or "Did I hear what I think I heard?" or whatever. Just stop. Tell yourself to worry about it in the morning. Listen to the fan go hmmmm. I love it!

Tonight, and probably tomorrow night, you will have trouble getting to sleep right away, but it should be better. The fresh air will help you maintain a healthy oxygen level in your sleep will give you a better, deeper sleep. The warm shower and routine will help you prepare for shutting down.

Go to bed as close to the same time EVERY night, even week ends. Give yourself an hour to 'sleep in' on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays, but don't sleep much more than that. If you find yourself dragging, a half-hour power nap in the afternoon will get you through dinner and homework.

Cut out all coffee, shots, dark soda, chocolate, and caffinated tea after 1:00pm. Switch to water or herbal tea. Those other things are dehydrating and empty calories anyway.

Get yourself into a good exercise routine too. Get your body worn out and crying for sleep. The physical workout will get your endorphins going and help you feel better. And remember to drink lots of water.

IF you don't find yourself sleeping better, faster, and waking refreshed within seven days, you could go to the pharmacy and get a SMALL bottle of Melatonin to provide a slight chemical adjustment in your brain. Alternatively, if you don't want to mess with herbs and vitamins, go see your doctor for a prescription.

But you will be better off changing your routine.

Sleep well

Lately it's been taking me at least 3 hours to fall asleep, earlier this week it took me 6 hours to fall asleep.

And I've been waking up unrefreshed.

Do I have insomnia?

Why do I only have insomnia when I am sleeping alone?

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping myself and know how bad it can get.Sometimes I find it worse because I'm alone and other times because there is someone else there with me, it just depends on what kind of night I am having and how I feel.My best guess is that you feel a comfort while with someone that you don't have when you are alone, not having it creates a gap or a sense of “something missing”. It is enough of a gap to make you uncomfortable enough to lose sleep over it, even though you may not consciously feel like there is a gap, it may be there somewhere in the back of your mind.To fix it, my best advice would be to consciously look for advantages of being alone in bed, like “I have more space” “if I get too hot, I can move to the other side where it is cool” “I can spread out and do anything I want”, don't even consider that there is any disadvantages, otherwise you will still feel a void.It may also help to make sure you are at peace with all your close family and friends, sometimes people seek comfort in others when they are having problems with another person in their life which would make increase their potential for having the problems you currently have.I am no expert, but this is my best theory and advice that I can offer.Hope this helps

Insomnia or messed up sleep schedule?? (can't sleep.)?

This is from an article that will help you understand your problem and how to solve it, hope it helps:

"“Why can’t I sleep like a normal person?” My friend and co-worker asked me, while her yawn threatens to swallow me. “I am never tired at bedtime, I stay awake until 2am and I need 5 alarm clocks to wake me up in the morning. After work I fall to my bed until 4pm. It’s so frustrating, I want to sleep at night and be awake during the day!”

If you have similar sleep problems, you are probably suffering from some sort of sleep disorder too. These disorders are called “Circadian Rhythms Sleep Disorders”.
What’s Causing Your Sleep Disorder?

Your body has an internal clock that tells it when it’s time to be awake and when it’s time to be asleep. This clock is located in your brain, just above an area from which the nerves travel to your eyes.

This clock controls the circadian rhythms in your body, including your body temperature and many other daily cycle hormones. These circadian (circadian means 24 hours) rhythms make you feel alert or sleep at regular times every day. When you have a circadian sleep disorder, it causes you to feel sleepy during the day, when you are supposed to work and be active, and vice versa.
In Comes Bright Light Therapy

Among other factors, your body clock is affected by light exposure.

You can re-set a clock that is off by being exposed to bright light. This is exactly what bright light therapy does for your sleep disorder....
