Do I Need A Resident Permit

Can I go to UK with a German Residence permit?

Since UK is not in the Schengen zone therefore no matter from which country you are a resident of and what kind of permit(s) you possess, as long as you don’t hold an EU/EEA passport you still need to apply for either an appropriate visa or an EU family permit (in the case that your spouse is an EU/EEA citizen, and you visit the UK alone without your EU spouse who exercises his EU rights to ‘FREE MOVEMENT).Apply for an EEA family permit from outside the UKHaving said that, there is an instance when a UK visa may not be required(visa exemption), that is if you go there with your EU spouse or join him/her in the UK.Non-EU family membersVisa exemptionsYour non-EU spouse, (grand) children or (grand) parents do not need to get a visa from the country they are travelling to if:They have a residence card as an EU family member, issued under EU rules by any EU country (except the country you are a national of), and they are travelling together with you or travelling to join you in another EU country. The residence card should clearly state that the holder is a family member of an EU national.orThey have a national residence permit or visa from another country in the border-free Schengen area and the country they are travelling to also belongs to that area.

You are not required to do this by law. You can just carry your old and new passport together when you travel.

Do I need to obtain a visa / work permit / residency permit in the UK if I'm an EU citizen to live there?

There is no need to get a work permit for a citizen of the European Union in any of its member countries. That is one of the single biggest achievements of the EU. See Charlelie Jourdan's excellent answer to How do EU work laws apply to Greek citizens? If Greeks were unhappy in Greece, couldn't they move to another EU country?

Does a Nigerian need a work permit and resident permit to work and live in Ghana?

Ghana falls under ECOWAS thus you don’t need a visa to visit Ghana or reside in Ghana. Recently though Ghana has started issuing visa on arrival at their points of entry but you are not required to pay for this.On the other side you need to be a Ghanaian national or descent of some sort or have a work permit to work legitimately in Ghana.

Is easy for EU citizens to get a residence permit in Canada?

It depends on each applicant's personal situation, wealth, skills and other circumstances. But generally yes, it is not difficult for EU citizens to get the PR there. Canada also introduced several migration programs for professionals, perhaps the most successful is the Express Entry and it grants PR for the immigrants.

I have overstayed Swedish resident permit. Can I apply for Netherlands tourist visa?

You do not mention your nationality which makes it hard/impossible for anyone to give an answer

However on the assumption that you needed a visa to enter Sweden and then obtain a resident's permit, then you will presumably need the same for the Netherlands. If you do need such a visa for entry and do not hold either a valid visa or a valid resident's permit for another Schengen country then you will not be able to travel to the Netherlands no.

I know it is likely someone will come here and say "sure they are both part of Schengen, no borders etc etc etc) but remember that it is by law that you have to carry your passport and show upon request to police here in the Netherlands at all times (from the age of 14) as a tourist even. So not having a valid status of legality within the Schengen zone and no "right" to enter the Netherlands could land you up as an illegal alien and cause even more problems in obtaining an extension.

If you want to be 100% sure then contact the Dutch embassy in Sweden http://www.netherlands-embassy.se/

I normally don't comment on other answers unless they are patently erroneous. Knonwing that the other user is not Dutch (judging by his lousy spelling of rijsttafel in his own question) or living in the Netherlands long enough to know Dutch then this merely reinforces the fact that this is an answer based on assumptions and erroneous information. I won't comment further than that.

Staying in germany without residence permit?

You need a residency permit if you want to stay in Germany and are not an EU citizen.

If you stay in Germany without a residency permit, you will be banned from entering Germany, regardless whether you own property in Germany or not.

Getting a residency permit is easy, as long as you have your own income and sufficient health insurance. (Unfortunately for you the health insurance must be German, it cannot be from elsewhere.) If you are still young, private health insurance starts from 50 EUR per month, for people in their 50's it is around 300+ EUR per month.

In order to support yourself, you'll be asked to show proof of a monthly income of appr. 400 EUR plus cost of health insurance and rent. (Rent in your case would be mortgages you might pay on the home.) For two people (ie a couple) it would be around 650 EUR per month plus health insurance and rent.

If you can show this, getting a residency permit should be a piece of cake for a US-citizen.

If you want more information, feel free to contact me via email. I might be able to walk you through the process. (Please give your nationality and some background on what you have done so far in your life.)

Do you need a resident visa to travel to Scotland?

No, it would be called a tourist visa usually obtained upon entry to the UK. It really depends where you are a citizen. For example most commonwealth countries obtain a six month tourist visa upon entry.
