How come pretty people are not usually smart?
In my experience it's becuase they never had to develop their brain (or personality) to get what they want. People who are pretty or handsome make others happy. They don't have to work as hard to get what they want becuase everyone trips over themselves to help them. When I dress up and take time with my experience is when I get the most people opening doors for me, treating me nicely, helping me etc. That brings me to my second point. This phenomenon extends to how you dress and present yourself. People will be more respectful to you if you look like "someone". A man in a suit vs. a man in mismatched dirty clothes and long beard? Who do you think people are going to treat better? We are very superficial. Attractive people have it easier so why do they need to be act smart or be nice? Just saying. You are right, many may be smart but they don't work at it. Of course sometimes they have it hard too, you would never know when people like you for you or your looks. I'm not sure I would want to be gorgeous or rich. Too complicated. I like being good looking and not a dog by any means but being blindingly beautiful? Sometimes people would hate you or judge you just becuase of how pretty you are. Many pretty people are deeply unhappy in their love lives. Then again you would never have to live on the streets as long as you had your face. For people who disagree that pretty people have an advantage in life, have you ever seen a good looking homeless person? No you haven't.
How smart do you need to be to become a doctor? Is there any way of predicting whether an individual in high school will be able to become a doctor?
My son completed med school. Later this year he’ll finish his residency.From what my son said and what I observed, having the following characteristics will certainly aid in becoming a physician.- Intelligence, but not necessarily at the genius level.- Ability to memorize vast tracts of information.- Determination. From the age of 5, my son was unwavering in his objective to become a physician.- Work ethic. There is a huge body of knowledge required to successfully get through med school, internship, and residency.- Unrelenting focus. There are a number of key waypoints to successfully complete. Undergrad GPA, MCAT score, admission to med school, passing the intermediate licensing exams, completing med school and passing the licensing exam, being accepted to a residency program, successfully passing the specialty exam.- Capacity for delayed gratification. After high school, becoming a fully trained physician takes 12 to 16 years of hard work.
How “smart” is the average doctor?
Sort of like asking how green is greenThe typical doc in any arena of healthcare be it MD DDS OD DO DPM or DVM are 1%ersWe represent the top 1% of the educational and intellectual community as a whole. That doesn’t mean that there is HUGE swings between individuals. Some of us had 4.0’s while others merely only 3.8’s and then there are the lowly 3.6ers who had to attend Caribbean or Mexican schools in order to advance in the careerDoes that mean that the guy/gal who attended University of St Maarten isn’t likely smarter than 99% of the rest of society? Heck no they still are!MANY docs just suck at taking exams so their “grades” suffered for that and forced them to seek alternative education directionsComparing a doc to say a nuclear physicist is tough. I have a friend who passed away about 2 years ago the department chair of physics at a major university and short of talking weather or news there was NOTHING we could talk about in his path that I could even comprehend like little forces that are generated in bits of segments of atmos and the …..I still feel quite comfortable knowing I am 1%er but there are still the 1% above me :)Dr Dave
I am not very smart but really want to be a doctor. Should I give up this dream because I don't know how to increase my smartness?
There seems to be 2 types of doctors. There are those who are naturally smart (to whom things seem to come really easily) and those who have become doctors because they worked really, really hard. These are the ones that don't come across as being particularly bright when you talk to them.You don't have to increae your smartness/IQ. You need to work exceptionally hard. Read as much as you can. Read technical books about chemistry, physics and biology until you understand them. The do practice exam papers and go over and over them until you understand. When your friends are going out on a Friday night, you need to be sitting down studying.Yes you can become a doctor, you will just need to work a lot harder and apply yourself a lot more than others.

So I finally got ahold of my doctor and he said I DO have a gallstone after a nurse told me I didn't. So he told me to only eat food that is zero fat. I am probably the most unhealthy eater in the world. So what types of food can I eat that are tasty with zero fat? I could really use some advice!!! Im 27w1d. THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Is sleeping on the floor or on a mat like the Japanese do/did really helpful for your back?? If not, what is?

I really want to become a doctor. But I don't know whether I am capable of such intense studies. What should I do?
U should ask yourself whether you enjoy studying or not . because that it what you will be doing for the rest of your life , although most of it will be in the first 10 years . First of all u study physics chem bio to get into MBBS . IF you manage to get a seat you study 19 different subjects over a period of 5 and a half years .You are expected to know anatomy, physiology , biochemistry , pharmacology , microbiology , pathology , forensic medicine and toxicology , preventive medicine , ent , ophthalmology , pediatrics , obstetrics and gynecology , general medicine and surgery in detail . other subjects ate radiology , dermatology, psychiatry , orthopedics.U need to keep in mind facts ranging from the sections of Indian Penal Code , CrPC , to the dimensions of sanitary latrines , to the amount of bleaching powder required to disinfect water . you have find parasites in stool under the microscope (of course) , dissect dead bodies ( cadavers ) , learn how to compound medicines , watch and assist in autopsies.It is a high stress environment wherein you get shouted upon by someone almost every other day . If you would enjoy all this yes you should do it .But the fun comes much later when you are allowed to see patients . you try to make a diagnosis and in the rare instance you are right is totally worth it .But mind it your friends from school have already started making money when you were in third year . some friends had done their MBA before I completed internship.Then is internship where you are the most pitiful creature in the hospital . You have to work hard , study harder to get through the pg entrance exams .Then once you get a seat of your choice study for 3 years .Then again study for super specializationThis goes on and on.Accept it or not every good doctor studies a lot. even though u may never seen Dr. House study or the doctors in Gray' anatomy study I bet they do so in their spare time off camera.Oh I forgot to mention the dangerous and stressful work environment , low wages , decreasing social recognition , odd and long working hours .But the first time you save a person with CPR and intubation it all seems worth the while.
